Anything with Monica Bellucci. What a natural ageless beauty. IMO, Malèna is her best movie.

Apocalypse Now was more than just a war movie it seemed to me.
As for pure war movies, my favorites are those based on true stories, such as The Great Raid, The Thin Red Line, and Merrill's Marauders.
The Pacific mini-series is outstanding. I prefer it to Band of Brothers though accept many feel just the opposite.
