Kiko's blog... He belongs to Miami

Kiko simply made plays, more plays from the LB position then we have seen in a long time, he is also a high energy player that does not quit on a play...was he perfect on ever play no, but if you consider that he was trying not only to fill his position, but cover up for other players, he did well enough to merit that contract.

This year he will have better players around him, so he will not have to do as much as he had to do last year, and though he might not lead the team in tackles again this year, he will be an even bigger force.

People that have a problem with him, can do so, but in the end will have no choice but change their tone by seasons end.

Good guy. Still would have made him prove he was healthy before handing him a long term deal, but I really like him as a player. Just a shame about the impact injuries have had on his career

The NFL is a business of winning, not one of loyalty. Fans love handing Alonso the participation trophy for effort, but he's nothing more than an average LB. He has plenty of time to enjoy South Florida when he retires from football and he can address his sentiments for the area then. Meanwhile, we handed out a very poor contract extension in return for more YAK. Yeah.

A big part of winning is loyalty...from a player's perspective. It can't be dismissed in the NFL. If a player feels the team is loyal to them, they often strive to go all out for the team and fight for it. That desire to "go to war for the coaches" grows, and winning goes up. The cold reality and old cliche is the "NFL is a business." Yep. Guy's don't produce, they're gone. However, guys stick around longer and generate higher production when loyalty is felt. Contracts help with this, for sure, but it's not the end all (Albert Haynesworth). It all ties back to that culture in Miami so many of our players are mentioning, and what Kiko discussed. They want to fight for each other. Kiko feels it. That makes a better team.

Thanks for sharing TeeMoney. Good read.

Kiko Alonso is basically the linebacker equivalent of Ryan Tannehill at quarterback lol.

("thumbs down" surrogate LOL)

He's a glue guy. I'd put him in the well above average category but not perennial pro bowler type.

His play should only improve in year 2 with Miami. He's been a transient for a years now so some stability should do him wonders. The overriding theme of his blog entry seemed to be about continuity both personally and professionally. He surely is the kind of guy who wants to earn what he was given so will ramp it up another notch as he wants to make Miami his permanent home.

The defensive additions we've made and the return of #20 should do wonders for the entire unit.

Commitment and character appear to be through the roof with this franchise right now.

Even Charles Harris being adamant about participating in OTA's absent a contract says a lot about the culture.

So you're a tad unsettled on Kiko?
SOS is a tad unsettled on just about everything.

That said, I do agree with him on one thing, and that is Kiko's inability to stop the ball carrier at the point of contact. Every tackle he makes gives up an additional 2-4 yds after the point of contact.

Still, he makes the tackle, which is more than what we've had around here in a long time, so that's a plus. Glad he's going to have some help around him to help clean things up.

The NFL is a business of winning, not one of loyalty.

True, but we do have examples of lack of loyalty, or symptoms of it, being a detriment to winning. First one that comes to mind is Haynesworth - loyal to his wallet only, obviously no concern for the team. Of course you are right, without talent, loyalty means eff all, but we all can agree alonso can play at the nfl level. So I throw in the loyalty, and as other posters mention the infectious nature of it, as a positive for this team

I would like to see Kiko add some weight (and strength) to his frame. He's listed at 238 but I'm guessing it's closer to 230. 242 may be a bit better as he weighed in at 238 at the combine and doesn't look big at all there. He must carry all the weight in his lower body because he could stand to bulk up on top.

Kiko is a good instinctive LB with size and speed. The fact that he's a warrior is a plus. But it is his ability to create turnovers from the LB position that really raises his game for me. Trust me, if Lawrence Timmons produces the turnovers that Kiko produced, and if he gets as many tackles ... you'll never hear the end of how great Timmons is from SoS. I wonder if SoS has a secret man-crush on Kiko .... methinks thou doth protest too much! ::cheers::

You're a bad liar.

Kudos to Alonso on the takeaways, but tackles are a subjective and overrated defensive statistic.

Alonso remains the glue holding this linebacker group together, his value evident in several enormous plays, including the game-winning interception return against San Diego.

“He had a hell of a year for us,” defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said.

The Dolphins were 30th against the run this season, but “Kiko has done well against the run,” Joseph said.

Alonso finished 18th in the league in tackles (112) and tied with Houston’s Whitney Mercilus for first in fumbles recovered (four). He also had two interceptions and forced a fumble.

Vance Joseph and Adam Gase were never afraid to call a player out.

I look forward to your even-handed and equally critical assessment of Lawrence Timmons.

I'll never understand why people don't like Kiko.

Makes no sense.

He's a good player.

He's a guy we should be happy to have.

Maybe he was having a tough time since he was the only Lber that did a damn thing?

Kiko is huge bright spot on Defense.

Could you imagine last year without him? Exactly
