Jarvis looking for Top 5 $

How much of a discount is built in to all of Landry's stupid penalties?

It's called the Adam Gase clause:

“There are negatives to some of the things that happened last year with the taunting and personal fouls but you know what, that’s a little bit of who we were,” Gase said. “We were the team that everybody kept saying what we couldn’t do. That was the attitude we brought every week. That’s why I never said anything. Because I wanted our guys to be who we were and I wanted people and our guys to make sure that they played with everything they possibly had.”

. . .

Gase reiterated that frankly, those penalties were generally worth it.

If that meant we got a 15-yard penalty because Jarvis (Landry) got some kind of celebration penalty or taunting penalty, were going to live with it,” Gase said. “And I wasn’t going to say anything because I wanted to make sure our guys played with every ounce of passion.

Landry is making the list. Probably check in at 50. Reshad Jones would have made it also if not for the injury.

8 WR's made the top 50 last year. Interesting that Suh has dropped from 24 to 40 to 55 over the last 3 seasons but his play has remained consistent.

I never said you rated Bess ... but I was in the minority who thought he was replaceable. I've been through this discussion before.

The biggest criteria for a slot WR is quickness to create separation. The other big criteria is route running. Those are two of Landry's 3 biggest strengths, with the other being hands. Call it what you will, the slot WR isn't the same as the outside receivers. You would see a lot more interchangeability, rather than just a change of pace, if they were truly interchangeable.

I don't think a lot of us though he wasn't replaceable so much that at the time he wasn't the biggest need to replace. There is a huge difference. Think Hartline, the same went for him.

2016: 10th in yards, Tied for 48th in TD
2015: 4th in yards, tied for 57th in TD
2014: 17th in yards, tied for 46th in TD.

Average of 10th in yards & 50th in TD.

There's still plenty of time to negotiate, so they should negotiate. Don't buy in yet. But when it comes to it, you've got to strike a deal at some point. It's a must. There's no way around it. The guy is the heart and soul of this football team, and by far our most consistent producer on either side of the ball.

2016 Landry had 1,136 yards receiving for 10th in wideouts
2015 Landry had 1,157 yards for 13th in total receiving yards...12th in wideouts
2014 Landry had 758 yards for 54th in total receiving yards..43rd if just wideouts

I doubt anybody is going to give him top 5 money but even if they do, given the escalating caps and contracts, it won't be top 5 money for very long.

Jarvis can pound sand at that price. Literally no team in the league would pay that to him. None. Yeah, he has great hands, but he needs 'em, because he's not athletic enough to create consistent separation.

I like his fire, I like his confidence. And he's a good player. But he's not that good. The fact that he's been the focal point of the passing game is exhibit B (after our shitty pass blocking) about why our passing attack has been stuck in third gear. Unless you have a future HOF QB (which we don't have), no top level passing game can go through a player like Landry. It goes through a top flight talent with a guy like Landry as an excellent 2nd option. And that's how he should be paid.

You mean the team that just re-signed Hightower with about 50% guaranteed? The same team that paid McCourty a pretty penny to stay a couple years ago and Gilmore this year? The same team that paid their LT a fully guaranteed 2 year contract? The same Pats that are currently reworking Gronk's contract that will likely make him the highest paid TE in the league? The team with the highest paid kicker in the league?

Good teams keep their talent.

I didn't say they never re-sign any players. I said they plan to keep winning even if they lose some. Trust me they can win without McCourty, without Gilmore, without their kicker and even without Gronkowski. Gronkowski misses games every year and they keep winning when he's out. New England loses talented players every year. They just lost their top running back are they worried. Last year they traded Jones, one of their top linebackers, and still won the Super Bowl. They also lost their starting tackle Sebastian Vollmer before the start of the 2016 season due to injury and didn't miss a beat.

I've been following football closely since before you learned how to cook, guy-who-defended-Philbin-to-the-end.

What does me being a chef have anything to do with it? That was weak. I didn't go to culinary school til I was 25. I too have been watching football for much longer.

Has nothing to with a ridiculous and erroneous statement on Landry's athleticism and lack of ability to separate. He has exceptional route running skills to gain separation and an NFL record of receptions in his first 3 years to prove it. You're not catching the ball in this league if you can't do those things.

While you're at it you forgot, guy-who-bashed-Gase-in-the-beginning. ;)

I didn't bash him at the beginning. I was dubious of his success because he was riding a HOF quarterback to notoriety. But I've always said that picking coaches is a crapshoot with too many variables for anyone -- especially those of us on the outside -- to make an effective evaluation.

The fact that you think the number of passes he's caught proves your point says it all about how bad your argument is. It would be as if I said that the fact that Matthew Stafford threw for 5000+ yards in a season as proof that he's an exceptional quarterback.
