Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
Tannehill had a great season under Adam Gase in 2016, taking his play to another level. Unfortunately, his year ended a bit early due to a knee injury, which he’s still recovering from. He shouldn’t miss any time in 2017 after avoiding surgery, but there may be lingering effects from having to wear a bulky brace.

Still, Tannehill has the potential to become elite next season. It seems like we say that every year, but the Dolphins have a great supporting cast around him, and his growing experience at the position is bound to keep him on an upward trajectory.

The most notable thing missing from Tannehill’s resume is a playoff appearance. Yes, he was a big part of the Dolphins’ run to the postseason in 2016, but his injury kept him out of the team’s playoff loss. He needs to help Miami bump the Patriots from their AFC East throne, or at least win a wild-card playoff game in order to take the next step.

Im one of Tannehill's biggest supporters around here, but those articles are becoming quite redundant. Fact of the matter is, he needs to step up, and so does the whole freaking team. I remember alot of hopeful offseasons in the last decades, alot of hype, but only a few wildcard playoffs loss to show up for it... Im not falling for it this early this time around... Just ****ing do it!

It's nice to see Tannehill get something other than dirt tossed on him...I think the Kid has done nothing other then get better year after year...Yea he does some things that make ya kinda crazy from time to time but he's even getting better at not doing that as often...He still has a few things to get better at and that takes time...I do feel better this off season about this coming season than I have in the past...I think The Dolphins have finally got this thing going in the right direction and we should see more win's this year!!!

You don't become elite. Its either you are or you're not. I do think that Tannehill, and the team's, best years will come when he's in his 30s.

I don't think it's too far-fetched to see Ryan Tannehill in the top 10 for quarterback rating this season. Perhaps even a tad higher if the offensive line can stay relatively healthy.

Miami has finally put together a strong group of players on offense. When was the last time the team had this much talent on offense? That should only help Tannehill take one more step.

This guy has survived some bad coaches and coordinators and in year one of Adam Gase we started to see some big things. I want to see faster starts and more consistency, but I like the improvement in footwork and with his deep game. It seems everything is coming together for Tannehill.

Andy Dalton
Colin Kaepernick
Blake Bortles
Kirk Cousins
Brian Hoyer
Christian Hackenberg

Tannehill just survived the Carson Palmer kill shot. Right when the game slowed down for him.

He's got Marino as his mentor and Gase as his coach.

He's got a slew of weapons and a rb who might stop him from becoming elite by scoring too many TD's.

Stem cells be damned, even if Pouncey doesn't recover, the oline looks competent.

This is some Dark Crystal-esque alligning taking place here...Apparently, the media has become the Skexes in this narrative. Mel Kiper as Mogra?

Finally, an article that accurate and appears to be written by somebody whose a professional journalist and not some damn blogger.

Nice to see.

Normally I agree with this...Marino, Montana, McNair, and most elite QB's were elite day one (with a few bumps)....but then you had Gannon, Plunkett, Moon, who became elite (albeit for short periods of time)...

Again, who is an elite QB in the NFL now.
A QB that can carry a team with good but not great talent.
A game changer.
A potential future Hall of Famer
Brady, Rodgers, Big Ben, Drew Brees, maybe Matt Ryan.
I think you need to be in the top tier of QB's for several seasons to be called "elite".
I'm a big Tannihill fan, but I think he needs to have several great seasons to be called elite.
He may be able to get to the second tier this season, but I'd have to see consistent great play
For several years before I called him elite.

Plunkett's numbers were horrible. I didn't follow football back then, you know being in a womb and all lol, but those aren't "elite" numbers regardless of his production in the playoffs. And Moon and Gannon, late bloomers, pretty much sums up my thoughts on Tannehill.

Ehhh.... not sure i agree. Rodgers is the only QB in current memory that came out of the chute producing like a hall of famer and he had a 3 year learning luxury.
Brees, Brady and especially Matt Ryan did NOT just start out how they are now. It was season 7 for Brady before he personally produced elite numbers. Tannehill is severely under appreciated as is what he's done with what he's been dealt.

Rapistberger was great even as a rookie. He was on a championship caliber team with a run-first offense under a good, established coaching staff, but he still played incredibly well for a rookie.

I may have contempt for him as a human being, but he is a great, great quarterback.

Is it easier to be a great QB on a championship caliber team? And if so, Does the learning experience under winning conditions allow for a longer window for rookie QBs to really establish themselves as great quarterbacks?

What Im suggesting is that the way the draft format is shaped, and the way the NFL has become a win now league, it promotes failure for early picks and success for late ones on a round per round basis... if that makes any sense...

Bad teams get to pick the better prospects in the early rounds and sometimes even reach to draft guys in an area where they usually suck. This leads to unwarrented expectations and impatience IMO... While established teams get to pick the unwarrented falling guys who end up in much better situations and succeed...

This is just a theory of mine and I might be way off, but it seems to be quite simple to me in such a team sport...
