Dolphins may cut Leonte Carroo a year after trading up for him

nobody will remember his name in 4 years. What's done is done, move on.
I agree with your point entirely, although I would add that "they" would remember it, because those three picks would have been whatever starter at a position of their choosing that another team had taken (which would have been a perfect fit for the team they love).

He doesn't play a position of "need" right now, that is very true.

But the people complaining that they didn't like the move - not because of the compensation part, but because it was already a position of strength - are off base. Coming into last season, Parker had shown a lack of focus and strong practice habits and Stills didn't have a great first year here (although in my eyes the writing was on the walls that he was going to breakout). Adam Gase, the new coach, offensive minded, wanted to get HIS players. So the position wasn't a strength YET.

Ultimately, like someone else mentioned, why are we still crying about spilled milk? Move on, we cannot change the poor compensation given up to get the player, all we can do is hope he pans out. Life goes on guys.

There's no question that Carroo has to prove himself as does every player on the team. But,

It is interesting how many receivers Miami has brought in. I'm not sure if that's just because the decision makers felt there was some talent there in free agency, or if it has anything to do with

I do wonder why Miami brought in so many wide receivers as collegiate free agents. Add that to drafting Ford and it's either that the decision makers felt they were too good to pass up, or they aren't sure with some players on the roster.

Is this because of Carroo? Is it that the front office isn't sure that Parker can take the next step? Is it because the team is concerned about Landry's contract or is it simply adding talent?

Miami has the same number of receivers in camp as the Patriots. I doubt that means the Patriots are looking to replace any of their top 4 receivers with some of the udfa's they brought in. Teams need bodies in camp. I think people are drawing conclusions with no evidence. If Miami was really concerned about any of their top 4 receivers I think they would have signed a second level free agent vet.

hmmmm...
Patriots draft a qb when they had drew Bledsoe...Dolphins draft a qb when Woodley had just taken them to the super bowl...players get drafted sometimes because the front office sees potential...or maybe they are looking to the future (contracts etc.)...maybe they have more insight than most of the posters here?..I know..imagine that lol...

Anyway, I trust this front office and believe they are on the right track...we will all find out soon enough....but I regress as I "bloviate"...speculation on "losing" draft picks to move up...who knows what would have happened...who would have been picked instead...if they would have sucked or got injured....why can't we enjoy what is FINALLY happening with our team?

We all want Carroo to tear it up. Young WR's do need time. (unless your randy moss...still wondering why jimmy was so confused, that was a major league screw up. i wasn't even paying attention, let alone on an NFL payroll and everyone knew moss was the steal...what were you smoking johnson)

That's the problem with the Carroo deal. Other than soccer fans, people without cable or the internet, the easily influenced (pofo forum), who on this board would make such a crazy asz trade. miami already knew they had bonus comp picks in 17, a total draft score...come on dolphins, get it together...

I remember Caroo having that one big play against the 49ers. Don't think he got a lot of reps/opportunity. He was buried in the depth chart. That's what happens when you draft positions you don't need.

Drives me nuts that we have these big gaping holes along the interior OL and then we draft a number 4 WR and use premium picks to trade up. That was amateur hour.

It's called Mike TannenBUM.

There is a reason why they drafted Carroo last year plus the Forde pick this year. There is a trade in the works or there are more issues regarding the wide recievers inability to get open in the retzone that Gase is trying to

The "big Deal" are the picks given up for Carroo. Those picks are a McGuffin for messageboard GM's. They are a fantasy in which they dream that there is some power they have to turn those opportunities into diamonds.... and their opponent (the team GM/Coach) is beaten by their imaginary potential.

Well, looks like somebody went back to school to take a creative writing class. Should pay off as much as throwing away picks on a position of strength.

I didn't like the trade at the time but wouldn't be upset if Carroo ended being a good player. There really isn't any place for him to play though. Unless the plan really is to let Landry walk after this year.

In the NFL people get a hurt a lot, as it turns out it's a violent sport. We run a 3 WR set that requires 3 talented WRs to be on the field, but odds are one or more are likely to get injured, so you draft guys In the later round that can sub in. I know everyone thinks we gave up the farm(a 4th and 6th round pick) but the fact is Carroo is cheap. He will never earn more than 1 million against the cap on his initial contract, so cap wise we have a cheap back up for 4 years. If he blows up and forces his was on the field, then that is a beautiful problem to have.

There is also the Devante Parker reason to have Carroo on the team. The next 2 years we have real choices to make on him. In 2018 we have to decide if we pick up his 5th year option. That is a choice to pick up a nearly 10 million dollar option. If he improves this year and becomes a true #1 then it's a no brainer, but if he has another 700 yard 4 td season, or worse, or struggles with injuries again, well then you have a dilemma. If he doesn't make that choice easy keep in mind we have nearly 10 million dollar cap hit with Kenny and will need to spend 11-14 million to keep Jarvis, so that is a lot on the books for WR. Having a guy on the roster who knows the offense with .9 million dollar cap hit will be very handy if we do move on.
