Jarvis Landry's agent puts deadline on extension talks

Just pay the man now and get it over with. He's the heart and soul of the "New Miami" which has been a breath of fresh air to this fanbase.

Ya know how that nebulous "intangibles" attribute is bandied about with some QBs?

Well I feel the same way about Landry! Given his attitude, production, spark and chemistry with Tannehill, I don't care what a productive seam/slot receiver earns. There's plenty of justification based on the intangibles to go the extra mile to retain the heart and soul of the team.

Exactly!!

He has stuff you can't teach nor replace.

He's our #1 receiver and deserves to be paid like it.

If Baldwin is getting 11 mil, Landry will be getting 12-14 mil

Who on that list do you see getting a big payday? Asking because some of the names I am sitting here like "who?!" Hopkins for sure is in line, might not bank breaking but he is going to get paid. Alshon probably, Fitz will work out some deal with Cardinals to remain there. Beyond that, not really sure who else, I mean I would hope the league by now learned about Wallace and doesn't give him a 3rd payday.

that's true, a better question would be "do you think any other team will offer top 5wr money if we don't"?

Top 5, probably not but perhaps damn there close if a team felt a piece or two away from a run. I am not saying it's going to happen but Landry is the type of player that would be prime for Patriots if they didn't trade for Cooks. Landry is an athlete and puts work into his craft, beyond that I think being a newish father and taking on family role will factor into his choice of where he wants to be and the money.

I find it funny that people are just like 'get it done, get it done', like the team should just cater to player demands. That's ridiculous.

Based on the list below of top 10 WRs based upon 2017 earnings, I would probably put Jarvis in the 5 to 7 range, which probably ends up something like 13.5 million.

1. Steelers WR Antonio Brown: $17 million
2. Bengals WR A.J. Green: $15 million
3. Falcons WR Julio Jones: $14.3 million
4. Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas: $14 million
5. Cowboys WR Dez Bryant: $14 million
6. Colts WR TY Hilton: $13 million
7. Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin: $11.5 million
8. Chargers WR Keenan Allen: $11.3 million
9. Buccaneers WR Desean Jackson: $11.2 million
10. Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald: $11 million

Ouch. Jarvis isn't a top 10 WR. I wouldn't tie that much money up at WR. Not for Landry.

Jarvis is one of the few nationally recognized "faces of the franchise" type players we've had here on offense in a long time. Before him, a lot of fans praised Hartline & Bess. Yes, Hartline & Bess. That's how bad it's been. The Dolphins have been so bereft of talent that fans have been lulled into accepting less. I love Jarvis' fire, but imho, you don't pay a slot WR with limited speed the type of money he's asking for. Just because Jarvis has been the most consistent WR we've had in awhile doesn't mean he has to stay here. Players on successful teams leave for free agency all the time. Successful franchises know this and plan ahead. Caroo may end up being quite valuable after all.

Seems Everyone is getting taken care of but Landry. Can only blame themselves if he leaves. Should've been done Months ago.....

Definitely some players here that are facing issues and that's why they only received one year, prove it deals. It will all come down to them staying healthy and producing this year.

Decker and Wallace are getting up there (30 & 31) but Wallace just posted a 1k season. Decker is a year removed (injury in 2016) from a 1k 12 TD season. Watkins is a very well know guy who has struggled with injuries.

Pryor posted a 1k season from a team with horrid, multiple QB's. Jeffrey is another injury prone guy but franchise talent. Fitz will likely retire. Adams just posted almost 1k and scored 12 TD's. Allen Robinson has 2300 yards and 20 TD's over the last two years. Martavious has to have a great year after his suspension problems. John Brown is a burner who will get paid because of his speed.

Make no mistake, Hopkins is going to get paid (if not franchised). He's 25 years old and put up 4487 yards and 23TD's in 4 years and did all that with some of the worst QB's in the league. He will get 14-16M per year. Landry will get 13M. He'll get 14 or 15 if they wait to sign him and his doubles his TD output.

Most of these guys are different types of receivers but based on health, age, production, type of receiver (slot WR being of less value), I would rank them like this as it pertains to getting paid...

1 DeAndre Hopkins (no issues)
2 Allen Robinson (needs a good season but suffers from bad QB play)
3 Jarvis Landry (no issues other than TD's)
4 Sammy Watkins (health)
5 Terrelle Pryor (needs refinement and to show he can do it again. Should have a good year with Cousins at QB)
6 Devante Adams (needs continued growth)
7 Alshon Jeffery (health)
8 Martavis Bryant (needs to show his character issues are behind him AND produce)
9 John Brown (needs a big season and will get paid because of speed)
10 Eric Decker (age)
11 Mike Wallace (age)

Baldwin is on his 3rd contract. He got an extension in 2014 and 2016. He averaged 644 yards and 4 td's per year over his first 3 years. Landry averaged 1017 yards and 4.3 td's. They will be paying for potential and his is greater than Baldwins, IMO. Baldwin didn't score more than 5 td's until his 5th year with 14 and followed up with 7 last year. He has averaged 6 td's per year over 5 years.

Landry also added 1,998 yards and a TD on returns. Baldwin has only 220 yards and 0 td on returns.

Landry also has 126 rushing yards and a td. Baldwin has 7 yards rushing.

I have confidence (and I'm sure the FO does as well) that Landry's td's will come....very soon.

Hopkins issue is he doesn't separate for squat so the catch windows are tight and highly contested balls are always gonna be there.

I feel for Sammy, kid is a great athlete but is becoming derailed more and more with health. I for sure thought Rex would have learned how to handle situation based on Holmes with the Jets and his lisfranc injury, no way should Sammy have been playing with fractures in his foot, the time he played with screws in was cleared by team doctors, etc.. but that is what happens when a team trades up to get you in first round and feel the need to play you to justify it. He is one I can easily see signing a one year deal after season on a prove it type of deal with a new team.

It's a shame I forgot who Allen Robinson was based on the team he is on, if I recall he posted up 1k+ yards and good chunk of TDs like two seasons ago, not really sure what happened after that(my guess is Blake?).

Many people (this question came up in Dolphin's twitter people) believe Miami is waiting to see if Parker actually does something worth thinking about in regards to Landry and his contract. Landry has proven himself as a top "slot" receiver.
I don't think Parker will ever be as valuable to his team than Landry.

I agree, Landry has intangibles that cannot be quantified. Gase obviously leans on Landry for those qualities and paying Landry before the season (before training camp) would be the best thing the Dolphins could do. It would solidify Coach Gase and the effect he has had on the players, Landry being a prototype of his style of player.
