I believe the issue is that Devante Parker looks as though he is going to play up to a true #1 receiver and one if the better ones at that. Is love to be wrong here so please let me know if I am. I believe the issue is this...Say we give Landry the extension before this season starts. Then Devante breaks out in a big way and turns into something along the lines of Julio Jones, or something close to it. Then next off-season its Devantes turn to get paid or walk...I don't think we even have the option to pay him if we are already paying Landry AND Stills big money. We will be forced to let Parker walk. I hate to say it but I think we have to see just how well he plays this year before we give Landry big money that way we can determine who of the two makes more sense to keep. If Devante blows up and becomes the Big, true #1 that is so hard to find then I think we'd be better off keeping him as it'd be easier to find a player in the mold of Landry. But if Devante is just so-so then we can keep Jarvis and possibly sign Devante too, but to a smaller contract BC his play would dictate smaller money. But if we lose out on the opportunity to sign Devante simply BC we gave Jarvis the extension early, well that would be a killer...I don't know but it makes sense to me. I think that's what's going on...tell me if im crazy

You're crazy. I don't think Parker has anything to do with a Landry extension. He'll get his and i believe the Fins told his agent to sit tight and it will get done before the season starts. This org has a recent history of not screwing guys. This doesn't need to get done this week.

If Parker blows up fantastic, we can have both as many teams do.

Btw, jk on the crazy thing. Nice idea and who knows maybe you're on to something.

Parker is only year 3, Miami has a 5th year option on Parker since he was a 1st rounder. By the time that's all up Stills will be up for cut or restructure.

Miami is playing it right and have the money to pay all of them.

I guess you're right on the Stills thing but I know we'd have the option on Parker it'd just be the same exact situation as where we're at with Landry so that's why it presents a problem. He'd have the leverage of playing the "give me my extension now or let me test the free agent waters next year" card...I didn't think about the timing of the Stills contract though, and I'm guessing you're probably right in that we will probably be able to get out of it or restructure if need be to fit em all in. Plus Stills seems to be a Dolphin friendly kind of guy. This is a problem I think we should be happy to have. Its nice to even think we have these good problems nowadays

This... no need to worry about Parker's deal right now

The reason is he wants HUGE money so they're in no rush to necessarily give it to him early.

My theory is Landry wants the same money as OBJ since they are so competitive with each other. I can understand why the front office doesn't want to spend top wideout money for a slot receiver. In the end I hope Landry is willing to be paid top money for a slot receiver.

I don't know if our cap Situation will allow us to sign Landry to a big contract this year

We also will have to extend Ajayi the same year as Parker. They could also be looking at extending Jordan Phillips. They are all FA's in 2019. Suh will be making $28 that year.

It just makes it more important to be consistently drafting quality players. If you can pay your top performers, then you just have to have quality, cheap backups that came from the draft and you also need young talented starters who are also on rookie deals. It's also a reason you have to pick another position where you don't invest so much money. The Dolphins have chosen the guard spot. Instead of paying out 8-10M for a guard, we are spending around 3M.

The Falcons are currently paying out 31M to their WR's. That ranks 2nd in the league and they also have a $20M QB. You just have to juggle things around. Currently we are paying the 7th most in the NFL to our defense and 25th most to our offense. Some of our defensive players will be gone by the time we get to 2019 and we'll have to replace them via the draft to lighten the load. Cam Wake, Lawrence Timmons, Andre Branch, Byron Maxwell will all free up some cap space.

If both Landry and Parker are tearing it up, you don't get rid of them. Parker could end up being a franchise receiver. He has the skill set and you have to keep a guy like Landry. Stills would probably be the odd-man out in 2019 if they had to make a decision but that will depend on performance. Hard telling how the roster will look at that point. We will have two more seasons of draftees on the roster.

This is tough. If Landry was just a good slot WR I'd say he's not a priority. Landry is so much more than that though. He's a guy you want on your team. I think the Dolphins should pay him,

the reason is he wants top 5 pay, but doesn't put it in the endzone like a top 5

I believe we need to sign this guy...I think this front office "for once in a long time" knows what their doing...If they don't sign him to a long term deal they can tag next season for 15mil "from what I have read"...So my thought is do they want to save cap space this season for some reason?...It would be nice to find out just what the hold up is...We will just have to wait and see...As Tom Petty said "The Waiting is the hardest part." But hey...It's only 47 days till we see the team take the field and get a look at the O line which is my biggest concern for the Offense.

I really don't think its a question whether to keep Landry or not..

He's the heart and soul of our team and according to the players our best player lol

Suh, Wake, and Jones are better..(Ajayi and Tunsil will be or are on the cusp)

Jarvis represents the NEWMIAMI culture. (that can't be understated)

We have something nice brewing down in Davie and we cannot afford to lose Landry.

Stills could easily not live up to his contract and Parker is unknown at this point. (to an extent)

Landry is our spark, heart, and talented as hell. (There have been many "would be" Tds he got caught after getting to the 1 just for a short run or pass for the backs to score.

Damien Williams had more tds than Landry lol

It sucks there's no stat that is "I got you to the one and they pounded it in at the 1" lol

Cards game he broke two tackles during a 60+ yd gain. He does it all the time.

I think this year he gets 10 tds. He's bound to breakout with TDs

Just for the record, EVERYONE wants the Dolphins to sign this guy... everyone is willing to give him $10mil/yr+ ... it's really just the matter of making the contract work. This isn't going to be a simple one, so finding common middle ground will take some time. It will get done, it will just take some time cause he's gonna get (for better or worse) A LOT.
