Dolphins’ Misi in holding pattern, awaiting clearance

No Dr. would approve a QB coming back from Cervical Fusion surgery unless they were convinced the surgery was success. If Misi's Dr. signs off on his surgery it won't be because the D'Line will keep blockers off of him, or because he will gently tackle a RB.

Best wishes to Misi, guy is a true pro. He gave everything he had on the field and to the Dolphins. I know he's not a huge fan favorite, but he deserves every ounce of respect from Dolphins fans. He's also earned the opportunity to try to lace them up once more.

Well said - if a comeback was that ill advised, the doctors (guys who actually study this stuff and Misi's injury) would have already made this decision - if not through advising Misi then through communication with the team, who are still paying the guy and standing by on the basis of doctor's advice. If it was impossible to come back as a LB from the injury, he'd have been gone a long time ago.

As much as many of us wanted to part ways with Misi, this is not good news. If for some reason Raekwon cannot take a starting spot at SLB or MLB, we are down to Hewitt or Hull as one of the next guys up.

No one knows if these guys are capable of being full time starters. Hewitt is probably not a great fit at either position and Hull is undersized.

Some guys rumored to be on the hot seat....

Brian Cushing: Texans now have Zach Cunningham and Bernardrick McKinney at ILB.

Preston Brown: Bills new HC is rumored to think he is not a good fit for his scheme.

Manti Teo: Signed AJ Klein is FA and also picked up Craig Robertson and drafted Trey Hendrickson. They already have Stephone Anthony.

I don't much like cushing...he has serious athletic range limitations and space play that get exposed but if he was here as a 2 down strong side backer I think that could work out...preston brown is instinctual and undersized but he can play a tackle to tackle mike...he's a better option than mike hull i know that much. stephone Anthony is horrid that cat is a pure bust so I doubt manti teo is going anywhere...stephone Anthony is lost

I didn't know misi had spinal fusion surgery had I known that I would have said cut bait from the get go... can't play lb off the los and take all that contact and potential for your head and neck with a spinal fusion...no way...that would be like playing strong safety with the same thing...forget about it

Hewitt can't play strong or mike just like Zach brown can't play strong or mike...I'd bet money though with all this that Miami gives raekwon McMillan a camp and preseason worth of work to see if he can handle it...at least the 2 down strong gig...it's where we can hide his limitations the most anyways and he can gradually morph into the starter at mike within the next year or so...even if the role requires very little actual lb instincts

Gase mentioned that MSI would need to learn how to tackle differently if he returned. How would that work?

Koa is a decent SAM linebacker when healthy. He is now paid as a backup and represents potentially depth on the roster. My read is that Defensive Coordinator Matt Burke likes him as potential depth, if healthy. I think we await the doctor's prognosis. If he thinks Koa's neck is fully healed, then he can return to training, which he has excelled at over many years. However, if the doctor says no, then I think he gets cut.
Koa is entering his 8th season as a Dolphin. He can be a good role model as an experienced veteran (he played 84 games) for someone like Raekwon McMillan. I hope that he is healthy enough to still contribute as a backup. It is significant that the team asked him to take a big pay cut when it was discarding vets like Branden Albert and Earl Mitchell. Mike Tannenbaum could easily have cut him at that time.

He'd be excellent depth, no doubt. But it's more about his long term health outweighing the benefits of having him on the team. A guy who is constantly hurt just had to get his spine fused ... it doesn't get more ominous than that.

HAHA right!!

Probably stop tackling head first lol

The guys neck is in shambles because of his head first hard hitting mentality.

For anyone who has met or seen Koa in person, you probably noticed he was HUGE!!

Great guy, good player (when healthy), and could mentor our younger guys.

I really think Hull, Hewitt, and Mcmillan can hold down the spot for now.

I'll always remember Koa as the guiy we got instead of ALL-Pro Earl Thomas. What a mistake!!!

Thank god our Miami Dolphins are in good hands!!

Jakeem - Don't blame Koa for the Dolphins drafting him instead of Earl Thomas. That was another Jeff Ireland call... The reality is that Koa is now entering his 8th season and has been a good Dolphin team man for many of those years, it's only the injuries in recent years that have detracted from his contribution. But as far as Ireland draft mistakes, it's not in the ballpark of Dion Jordan.

The LB core still worries me, especially on passing downs - maybe they play the run a little better with the overall defensive moves that were made but its still a big work in process.

The safety opposite Jones and nickel corner- just too many things have to go right on defense and usually thats not the best recipe

I think we need anoher strong defensive draft/FA where we can acquire at least 3 players and the scheme will also be up for discussion going forward most likley.
