Dolphins trade for Saints LB Stephone Anthony

If it's a for 6th or 7th round pick I think it's worth it. Look at our picks the last 2 years only 2 are on active roster Grant & Taylor. The others were cut or on PS Lucas, Doughty, Duarte, & Ford.

Plus our scouting dept has killed it with undrafted FA anyways so even more to like if it's a 6th or 7th round for a cheap athletic LB that hopefully will be highly motivated.

Plus, I think Miami has two 7th rounders next year. My guess is that it's one of those picks.

We have a LB emergency situation. I'm ok with a 5th. Anything higher would've been troubling. But a 5th rounder is a gamble no matter how you dice it.

I remember this kid in the draft. I had him as a 4th round pick but knew he would shoot up after the combine. He killed the combine with some eye popping athleticism but none of it translated on the field. Very slow to read and diagnose plays...very slow. Athleticism helped him get away with his slow reactions in college...clearly not the case in the NFL.

We gave up a 5th round pick, took on a big contract (he was a 1st rounder) and my guess is he won't be here next year. Hurts the cap, hurts the draft.

Big contract? From what I have been reading he's only making barely over 1 million each year for the next 2 seasons.

Ah, every Kiko supporters trump card, that play was literally the highlight of his career, and he was a key contributor in that game because of his pick six but we had 24 points on the score board, Kiko didn't score those and Rivers still had 1:01 left so we still need a stop. Alonso was a key factor but he didn't win us the game, I could make the argument that he was part of the reason the Chargers scored 24 in the first place.

Look, I'm not even THAT high on the guy. Sons has swayed me somewhat over these past few months. But jesus, don't ask what games he won then get all pissy when someone answers you. He scored the winning points to put us up. He supplied the stop that ended what would have been a game winning drive. He won the game, no matter what way you want to spin it. Of course he is going to be responsible in part for the points an offense does put up...

Don't know if i've ever seen Hoops this dispassionate about someone.

I realize these are "highlights" but he looks pretty solid against the run atleast, and once he gets his hands on the offense hes usually able to exert his muscle. He looks strong as an ox and stacks and sheds relatively well. Maybe he just needed a change of scenery ?

He was the 31st player drafted. He has been paid most of his bonus money. We have him for our portion of his 1.2 mil salary this year and his 1 mil salary in 2018 and whatever bonuses, if any, are transferable.

The money is almost a non factor here. If he isn't here next year it will be because of performance, but I think if nothing else, he will be good in ST's coverage; if, he can stay healthy.

If we had a lowlight film, and some knowledge of the percentage of plays each film represented, we'd know better.

The odds are that this should be viewed as though we have a 5th-round linebacker who made the team, with the concomitant expectations.

Yea I agree, this is the best I could find though. It seems to show a lot of plays that aren't all "flash" like normal highlight videos and its relatively long for a normal highlight video as well. I just had no idea how he played, was just looking for some starting point

His highlights and draft info do give some idea about his potential in a perfect world.

My thinking is he'll be a back up and play specials. No one questions his athleticism . Maybe he sticks , maybe not but in our situation it's probably a gamble worth taking.

What I find most interesting about him is he did really well at MLB under Rob Ryan and then they switched to Dennis Allen. After that is okay started to decline and then they move his position to Strong. Feels like a bit of mis-management of a player. 112 tackles as a rookie and some nice tape, not perfect but splash plays to not playing. Goes along with what Hawkins said, sometimes coaches just don't like a guy. It happens. Let's see what happens with a new setting with a better coaching staff.

It's the new CBA. Guy's making like 4.5M over the next 2 years with nearly no dead money next year. Doesn't hurt the cap. I much rather run a guy out there that can tackle and at least has the physical tools in coverage over a guy like Hull. I'm a lot happier to take a guy from a poorly coached team, especially with Anthony's tools. It's a desperate time at LB, sometimes you gotta roll the dice and it's not hard to recoup a 5th rounder if need be. When there's this many injuries this early in the season you're going to need to make some sacrifices to cap/draft capital.
