I remember this kid in the draft. I had him as a 4th round pick but knew he would shoot up after the combine. He killed the combine with some eye popping athleticism but none of it translated on the field. Very slow to read and diagnose plays...very slow. Athleticism helped him get away with his slow reactions in college...clearly not the case in the NFL.
We gave up a 5th round pick, took on a big contract (he was a 1st rounder) and my guess is he won't be here next year. Hurts the cap, hurts the draft.
No, this was watching him play at Clemson. He has ZERO instincts, when he does read it he gets there and gets there quick.this is just a stupid response with no knowledge of what happened to him with the saints, he was all rookie team with 112 Tackles at MLB and than these idiots decided to move him to the outside, he can play, i like this talent with Matt Burke coaching him
His contract is very cheap..I remember this kid in the draft. I had him as a 4th round pick but knew he would shoot up after the combine. Jones and Ajayi. But I agree you won't find player better then Anthony in the 5th. He's a good athlete which we can utilize I thinkBut the hoopla over a 5th round pick is hilarious.
Just because Miami has Jones, doesn't mean a 5th is somehow sacred. You won't get that kind of athlete in the 5th..It's worth a flyer..Even though I'm not a fan of him i'd still root for him to be good for Miami.
I forget Ajayi is a 5th sometimes.Jones and Ajayi. But I agree you won't find player better then Anthony in the 5th. He's a good athlete which we can utilize I think
Hurts the draft? Really? For a 5th round pick? Besides, the Dolphins do a better job drafting AFTER the draft. We are the best in the business in terms of drafting "undrafted free agents"
A 5th doesn't hurt anyone? Why is it that I keep having to remind DOLPHIN FANS of this especially. Zach Thomas, Reshad Jones, Chris Clemons, Nolan Carroll, Bobbie McCain, Jay Ajayi, Tony Lippett and now Davon Godchaux. All guys who either start, started or are major contributors to the Dolphins. 5th round has been better to the Dolphins than the 1st round. His contract is very cheap..

As well, a candid assessment from Sean Payton in the same ESPN article that sums it up:Some analysis from ESPN:
"..He was clearly at his best when playing middle linebacker, his college position. He started all 16 games there as a rookie in 2015 and led the Saints with 112 tackles.
But that was also the year the Saints' defense set NFL records for most touchdown passes allowed in a season and highest opponent passer rating. Anthony had a lot to do with that as the “quarterback” of the defense, who called signals and wore the communication device to relay plays from the sideline.
The Saints tried moving him to strongside linebacker last season so he didn’t have to do as much thinking, but it didn’t take. Neither did his temporary move to weakside linebacker this summer.."

From all I've read, it seems that Stephone Anthony is a physical freak, who is best at MLB, but is weak at quarterbacking the defense.
So maybe keep Stephone Anthony at MLB, and have Kiko QB the defense.
Lippett wouldn't be a factor on a team with good corners, McCain is pretty close to terrible and has been since he's been here, Nolan Carroll is average at best, Clemons is out of football, Godchaux is all TC hype with zero substance yet.A 5th doesn't hurt anyone? I love Sean Payton like the next guy, but his defenses have been terrible and it's why he may be fired soon.As well, as candid assessment from Sean Payton in the same ESPN article that pretty much sums it up:
"He's explosive, he's disruptive and yet his key-and-diagnose and his instincts at times are off," Saints coach Sean Payton said in a blunt and candid assessment of Anthony last year. "It's run, and he's dropping back in a pass mode. Or it's pass, and he's at the line of scrimmage. His ability to see and diagnose some very simple reads, for instance, are the keys for him getting better.
"That's been the thing that's kept him back. And quite honestly, it's kept him back on special teams [too]. Because a player like him who is on special teams, if he's covering a kick or covering a punt, generally a guy that can run and hit shows up. And he's been, I would say, just OK in that area."
