Dolphins trade for Saints LB Stephone Anthony

Is there anyone comparable to Anthony pertaining to conceptual inability yet good athletic talent?

I've tried and I can't find anyone. You usually will sacrifice athleticism and range for instincts which is the offset in a 2 down mike.

If you can name me a quality 2 down mike I'd bet that their instincts are above average.

The kid brown in buffalo is basically a 2 down mike that they scrape by with in the nickel cause his instincts are above average.

I can't think of anyone.

These switches rarely flip. Highly either or and the ones that do develop usually played a different position in college like transition from undersized de to off the los lb. and even then most of them instinctually are average at best over the long haul.

Anthony was a guy we liked in the draft and everybody went back and forth on...

Now obviously, I know highlights don't tell the whole story so I am posting a few things, but here are some of his rookie highlights to show what he is capable of...

Here's also some film from him at Clemson

Here's an interesting analytical video as well

To me the trade is a high ceiling/low floor move. Maybe a chance of scenery will work (as a lot of pundits have mentioned, the Saints just cannot put a coherent defense together), maybe it doesn't He does add some much needed athleticism to the defense though.

Not disdain. It's the simple fact everyone has an a-hole as well as an opinion.

if you're so confident your take on things is so rock solid and undeniable -- go get a job in the NFL.

They'd love someone who hypothetically bats 1000!

Other than that >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> its all O-PINION!

My O-PINION. Of course.
Don't forget how political and screwed up coveted jobs can be, lots of idiots out there in high profile jobs simply because they are snakes, Philbin being just one of endless examples.

Anthony played himself off team - he has some good attributes size and athleticism he may work out

I feel the same about the gm position..its a joke.

Coaching/GM jobs have always, and will always be a "good ol' boy" positions. Meaning that landing those type of jobs are all, and I mean ALL about connections. That's how guys like Todd Haley play golf in college, and end up being NFL head coaches (daddy was a coach).

I hate Queasy as much as the next guy, probably more, but only from a pure football perspective. I really respected Joe as a man, much like Sparano, and unlike JT. I would never call either of those coaches snakes, just over their heads. The only reason Queasy was kept so long imo was a point of pride for Mr. Ross, as it was reported that he intially wanted/hired him in the first place. Owners again imo, should leave those types of decisions up to the general manager, and basically all things football related. I think Ross has learned this lesson by now, plus he's got his boy in there in Tannenbum so no reason to meddle now lol.

I originally liked Joe as a man until I realized just how much he would throw players(injured) or otherwise under the bus to save himself, was pretty sad.

But the hoopla over a 5th round pick is hilarious.

Just because Miami has Jones, doesn't mean a 5th is somehow sacred. You won't get that kind of athlete in the 5th..It's worth a flyer..Even though I'm not a fan of him i'd still root for him to be good for Miami.

Tony Lippett disagrees. so does Chris Clemons

If Stephone Anthony still has talent and is worth a flier, why are the Saints, a team with a genuinely atrocious defense giving up on him? It's not like they have an abundance of talent at the LB position and he is signed cheap enough he shouldn't have any real affect on their cap situation. Throwing away picks is never a good idea, it's not just the chances of a 5th rounder becoming a star, its assets that you don't have to move up in the draft. Take this year's draft, wouldn't it have been nice to have that 3rd and 4th rounder we gave up for Caroo to try and move up and draft a falling player like Malik Hooker?

We once traded Vontae Davis when we really needed corners.

Can't you say the same thing about any player that gets away? Rishard Matthews, Nolan Carroll, Chris Hogan, Brock Marion, Zach Brown, Dontari Poe, among many others.

Each player is different and his team he played on had different circumstances compared to others but it happens. Anthony very well may not do a damn thing in Miami but as was pointed out previously in this thread, a move like this is New England-esque. Take a flyer on a guy with potential and if he busts he busts. A 5th rd pick isn't generally a colossal waste.
