Our D...

Did Verner play yesterday? I don't ever recall hearing his name.

That outside Jab completely turned Howard hips around, u don't wanna see that in a no.2 cb so definitely not acceptable for a no.1. Howard has to learn patience that type of false step can't happen on the first fake.

True about the patience, hopefully that comes with a bit more experience and game reps.

He also needs to have better situational awareness there; Howard reacted HEAVILY to the outside move when he had the sideline there to help him, and Allen moving to the outside would have put Howard between the ball and the WR even if was beat by a step, would have had the extra time to recover.

Must give kudos to Allen for that jab step crossover move though, stoopid quick! I also like the subtlety of how he waited and made the move a few yards down field, next level.

Yea tempo change is a skill the elites have mastered. Lull you to sleep before striking, The greats win early.

Coaches should coach that foot drag crossover, to me it's a superior technique, but old school coaches frown upon it.

We need to call more zone blitzes. Mesh concepts, slants, and crossers killed our M2M blitz calls and we did little to disguise our man coverage intentions presnap as well.

Allen Robinson a Wr with loose hips uses same technique.

I'd figure Gase would have better insight on how to defend those considering he has them implemented in his own offense.

Here's an example of misusing the double wide 9 alignment in an unobvious passing situation. With the wide set of the DL both LBs are responsible for the A gaps on each side of the center. Gordon is able to set them up by making the LB's step forward to those inside gaps, and then cutback into the crease created by the wide 9. Watch how easy it is for the RT to make his block. He simply lets Wake over-penetrate and then is in prime position to seal him off on the frontside. DT's are also both easily doubled with duece blocks due the DE's taking themselves out of the play. And nice tackle attempt, Maxwell.

Mccain is in the middle of the charger helmet before he realizes its a run..

I graded hull down on that play cause I think a more rangy mike limits that more. Regardless of his actual assignment.

I think Timmons sees it sooner and limits that play more for example.

No one gets a positive grade there. Even Suh was a culprit in flashing his helmet to the inside which is a key read for a RB to bounce outside into the wide open crease.

Hey sons if you could and I know it's alot of work so you might not get to it. Create a thread about Mike Hull and some of those 9 completions. Was it really 9?

Yes, Hull was targeted a number of times (haven't finished the exact number yet) but here's something for context.

With that taken into consideration, on the 5th play of the Chargers 2nd series a pass was completed on Hull for 10 yards, but the down and distance was 3 & 11. Meaning he fit the criteria explained in the above tweet and stopped the receiver short of a first down and helped force a punt.

So despite him being targeted and "giving up" 10 yards, 11 was needed and he contributed to the defense getting off the field in that particular instance.
