Miami Dolphins DC Matt Burke challenges secondary to challenge receivers

Bend but don't break is a great philosophy when you have playmakers... sadly we are sorely deficient in that area. It's why the Bucs actually have a pretty good D despite being porous overall. I can't remember the last time Jones made a big play, and he's the only one.

Maybe not big plays, but he still does all the little things right. He was actually the main reason for the sack that Hayes had due to his blitz and the disruption it caused.

It may not always be sacks or interceptions, but I'd consider Suh as our biggest playmaker. He's the one who has to be accounted for on every play.

Oh ya don't get me wrong I still love Jones, but he hasn't really produced a splash play in ages (granted he missed half of last season).

When I say playmaker, im referring to those splash plays. Sacks, picks, INTs. Those are crucial if you play a bend but don't break scheme.

I agree, I think he's on track for the HoF, what say you?

yea it's actually pretty damn close

Yeah, that's kind of my fear. It certainly has to rank in the bottom 10, but if TImmons comes back that could lean more towards the positive.

Howard definitely has to step up and the pass rush needs to be better. Rivers picked Miami apart and had a lot of time to throw.

I would lean yes. Though despite all his dominance he has never been involved in a playoff win and defenses are an integral part to playoff success. I know where my blame in that lies. Let's just say he has played in the same scheme his entire career.

Jones had a pick in th Pitt game last year... you know the game he got hurt in..

QB's are getting the ball out quicker so we have to "at least" show press coverage and give them that illusion. Our pass rush was non existent last week because the slants and outs killed us. X and Maxwell have to play tighter and the safeties have to be able to help over the top. I'd like to see Reshard play further back outside of the box. I know it's tough with weak LB play, but something has to give.

Hey Burke, here's a suggestion: Stop lining our DBs 10yds off the LOS.

Are we going to play more Press Coverage (Man to Man)? Apparently Howard and Maxwell are much better in this type of coverage. What factors dictate if we go to Press or stay in zone? Does it depend on the QB we're facing? ie. are we in zone coverage to prevent big plays over the top?

I challenge Burke to make better play calls.

Cover 3 zone pressure that results in a 12 yard gain from the wide split Z off a fieldside drag in the area left open by the slot blitz

That's just a good offensive play vs a bad playcall.

Also possible this is one of the plays that PFF erroneously credited as a Howard target.

Always like the visual evidence. Plain as day to see: No cornerback can make that play especially if your first step is backwards. From an offensive perspective, you take what the defense is giving you. That's an automatic 12 yards.

I suppose if Howard lined up a few yards closer to the LOS, and his first step was towards the receiver that might have given Rivers a little bit of pause. Not to mention the fact that Kiko Alonso got an interception off that very same play a year ago. Or you can drop the DE back in coverage to combat that. The real question is, if we played press coverage on this play, would the deep ball open up for them? And even if it did, wouldn't Rivers have to hold on to the ball two extra seconds, and that would give the pass rush time to get him to the ground?

So all that nonsense he said is he wants guys to play tighter and more aggressive? I don't understand, isn't this his playcalling and scheme and the players play as aggressive as his calls tell them to? Or is it just free wheeling out there?

It was a good playcall to beat zone coverage there as the verticals helped clear the underneath drag and the MOF defender's reads call for them to carry those verticals upfield. Best bet would be to play M2M and press vs that specific route, but like you mentioned that opens up other options over the top.

We played a decent amount of press coverage vs the Chargers when the CB was singled up on boundary, wide splits, and with Jones vs Gates when flexed. Problems arose when the pass rush couldn't get home.
Did anyone check if the pass rush was even at the front of the door? Wrong address maybe?

DC Matt Burke challenges secondary to challenge receivers but he forgot that he is responsible for Play-calling!!! Smh
