The inside linebacker prospect ran a blazing 4.58-second time in the 40-yard dash, and an uber-quick 6.88 in the 3-cone drill. Combine that with 23 reps of benching 225 pounds and an official 6-foot-4, 241-pound measured frame -- along with his production during his SIU career -- and you have yourself one excellent prospect.

At the NFL Combine, only two linebackers -- inside or outside -- matched or beat Allen's 40 time, and only four matched or beat his cone drill time.

This kid may be the great Dolphin surprise of 2017.

He obviously has some development to go to become a true starting NFL linebacker...but he has all the tools.

We all want blue chippers at every position, but there are plenty of guys who perform at a different (or surprising) level when they get to the NFL.

We should all HOPE that he grows into an every down role. I certainly hope so.

"I'd love to end up anywhere, honestly," said Allen, who grew up rooting for the hometown St. Louis Rams (he's from nearby Belleville, Ill.). "If it's in Florida, that would be great. It was great training down there (in Davie).

Lol

Experience will be Allens best friend. I think as time goes on, he'll improve. He's seems old school in a sense.

I like the kids potential. He uses the speed and quickness with quick action thinking, and he arrives with a thud. But he is still very raw and takes bad angles because he hasn't gotten use to the higher level of athlete he is playing against.

He was one of the UDFA's I really liked. But he still has a lot to learn. If he is going to get playing time this year I need to see game by game improvement.

There is a part of him that reminds me of the old Browns LB Clay Matthews ... related to Clay Matthews of the current Packers, but a different style of LB. Chase Allen reminds me of the old Browns LB just a little bit ... when he is flashing proper read and react. That guy was physically imposing, agile, and very instinctive.

He misses tackles, but that is what coaches are for. I think he will be a starting NFL LB. A lot will depend on how he comes along in coverage.

If he can become proficient in coverage he could even become great. He has the smarts, instincts strength, and speed, to make it happen.

This would a fantastic surprise if this guy produced at an above AVG level at LB.

I think the sleeper pick is the kicker Cody Parkey.

After our game last year, kid was a beast and perfect from 50+.

I never felt comfortable with Franks but thought the Buffalo game probably bought him time. Parkey could end up being a huge upgrade for us.

C'mon man...Kickers aren't football players...lol

But Godchaux would also be the other candidate.

Who knows...maybe it's time for the sun to shine on our Dolphins and we hit on multiple unsuspected surprises...that is often how championship teams rise from the dust.

From their keyboards to GOD's ears. I like the kid a lot. I'm a glass half full kinda guy, so I say he develops along with a healthy McMillan plus Anthony being able to grasp the playbook. Would it be possible for those three to be on the field together? I sure would hope so. Those three have a lot of talent, each in their own regard.
