Man the way hoops props up Kiko you would never think two different teams gave up on the 2nd round pick before year 4

I'm not propping him up.

As for the rest of it he no longer fit buffalos scheme after his rookie year and he was hurt for 2 years in philly. Plus philly was trying to get ammo to go get Carson wentz

He didn't fit Jim Schwartz scheme but he's a great fit for us? No he got shipped to the eagles because Rex Ryan had no use for him, and newsflash players in the NFL get hurt all the time, if they're good enough their teams don't just give up on them that early in their careers when they're dirt cheap. Eagles got rid of him because they were having a fire sale on Chip Kelly's guys, they all underperformed, Maxwell, Murray, Kiko, Eric Rowe, they all sucked in Philly.

Yeah saying Kiko was "gave up" is being disingenuous. Stephone Anthony was "gave up". The teams that ultimately traded for Kiko gave up tremendous value to get him. Whether he was worth it is up for debate.

Yea, well in Buffalo he was the Rookie of the year his 1st year, and in Philly, word out of there was, he did an OK an ok job against the run, and was actually pretty good in pass-coverage (Would love to see it in Miami), so I think the reason he was given the door, was his constant injuries, not his play.

SoS - Suggest that you and all the other Kiko haters who want to see him fail, take the time to listen to Coach Gase's press conference today and the praise he gives Alonso. You may be surprised.
Interesting to note the effort that goes into preparing for every game.
For the record, I'm not a Kiko hater by any stretch of the imagination. I think he would do better in a scheme where he gets protected from blockers or I'd like to see him paired up with Lbs that are strong enough to help out when he gets out of position by gambling or struggling to bow up at the PoA. However, I think he brings big play potential that we've missed from our D for years.

I really wanted to see the D with McMillian, Timmons and Alonso at Lbs....sigh

Fair point on the chip Kelly fire sale. No argument there.

But I saw some 2015 Kiko game gifs prior to him reaggravating and going out extended and the athlete just wasn't the same. They cut bait cause he was a multi year major missed time with injury lb. more than anything else.

And I've never argued anything more than kiko should have played at a 1st or 2nd round tender this year so we could get one more year to gauge him long term health and player wise. So the extension I was never on board with timing wise and you know that.

However I think his play validates a top 50 pick worthy lb. every down lbs with his range and athleticism come off the board quick. Plus he has plus instincts not top shelf instincts but plus ones which is why he makes so many plays on the ball.

Kiko is an average LB, not sure how anyone could logically argue otherwise...

Here's that nickel zone awareness on display. Cover 3 Sling. Who exactly does Alonso think he's passing the TE off to?

But wouldn't he be leaving a HUGE void in the middle of the field if he left that spot? Sometimes multiple players are going to be in an area with only one defender, simply based on the offensive call vs the defensive call.

Yea. If Kiko is your worst Linebacker you dont have much to worry about at the position

No, but I'll explain in greater detail later w/ maybe a drawn up image of the coverage. Basically you have the 2 CB's bailing and SS (Over the top off the screen) covering the deep 1/3's. Then the FS (who was playing up) and Slot CB keying the #2 and #3 vertical reads. IOW, the only MOF threat is the TE which Alonso should have cut and carried but passed on.

I'm still struggling between the scheme and the players. Against the Chargers passes defended was zero. 1 sack and 5 QB hits. Something has to change soon and it won't be the players, so Mike Hull just saying they have to play "tighter" is not going to cut it.

It's really not an outlandish contract, especially with the rising cap every season. #notyourmoney

I don't mind overpaying for certain players (Suh, Jones, Landry, even Juwan James) ...but overpaying for the Maxwells, Branchs, and Kikos of the world just isn't smart. That's the same amount of guaranteed money Hightower got... and those two aren't even close

And if he's your highest paid? He got an extension based on his performance last year as the best LB on the team. Kinda reminds me of when we gave Hartline a long term deal after he got all the targets playing with Bess and Fasano, obviously that didn't work out.

And I'm not so sure he and Timmons aren't on the same level now, Timmons hasn't been the same in years.

Not to totally defend the contract, because I wanted them to wait for starters, but I think Hoops made a good point that it isisnt the easiest thing in the world to totally rebuild your enttire LB core quickly . I'm more upset with some of the LB we could have had a chance on and passed on over the last few years

Just a thought on Hightower's - his body isint going to hold up IMO, thats why I wasnt in for giving him a huge contract.
