Opinion: Tannenbaum is worse than Jeff Ireland

All of the preseason Injuries put a huge damper on our season. When your starting QB, 2 OG's, CB, and much-needed rookie LB go down before the season even starts, And, your other much-needed starting LB has to be suspended by the team, that's nightmare-mode for a lot of teams.

Thanks Albert. That info is good to know. I've known Tannehill was an enormous cap savings, but just didn't know the exact amount. I figure he's going to be approached, like Suh was to restructure. The question is, Is Tannehill open to it? There were some who've suggested he has all the leverage over Miami, because he knows, he'd get picked up by another team if released, because, he decides to reject a restructuring. Either way Miami saves money, but either loses its QB to another team or he stays at a reduced rate of pay, with better cap friendly numbers. But in the meantime, Miami opens the off season at a disadvantage cap wise, needing to find space by cutting several serviceable vets.

Another terrible decision by Ross to give this man another shot at running a team

And for those who have apparently forgot, we restructured the Suh contract a year in and kicked that cap hit on down the road. Little sense then. Less now.

Uh, Ireland was terrible here. Dunno how he was able to find gems when he ran the Cowboys draft day 2/3.
He blew drafts here along with free agents.
WOAT

Mike T isn't good, but, Ireland will always be another level below Mike.

I'm not sure an Ireland vs Tannenbaum discussion is even warranted. What's the point? They both suck.

As far as Tannenbaum goes, a lot of his supposedly smart moves turned out to be fools gold.
1. The trade for Maxwell and Alonso. Do Maxwell or Alonso look like difference makers or even solid pieces on defense? They're both getting exploited week after week.
2. Ignoring the safety position. I harped on this during the draft and I got a lot of replies saying that Nate Allen's addition would solidify the back 7 until McDonald returns. Wrong. BTW, why do you give a contract extension to McDonald? He has yet to play a game for us, and he's a suspension risk.
3. The linebacker situation is embarrassing. Timmons might be our only linebacker worthy of starting and we obviously didn't do enough due diligence before signing him. He's also old.
4. Verner signing. If you can't beat out Maxwell, what good are you?
5. Interior line. Look at our starters. Pouncey is 1 misstep from IR. Bushrod is old. Larsen might have been a good signing, but the depth behind him is abysmal.

Tack on no cap space, misused draft picks, and suspect contracts. This team just doesn't seem to have a plan.

I mean I don't even think Ireland would've done that dumb *** Carroo trade
At this rate, I don't see Carroo playing wr this season barring injury. Parker looks to be ready to ball finally and if we keep Landry there is no need for Carroo going forward. I don't like to call players a bust after 2 seasons but the writing is on the wall,no fault to Carroo either.

Also can't put all of the blame for Tbaum on this, Gase was very high on Carroo too.

Not throwing Caroo with the bathwater, not cause of the draft picks involved either.

I think they both suck. I wish ireland had never been the GM and I wish t-dumb wasn't the GM now. I can think of a few guys on this board that would do a better job.

Ozzy rules!!

Tannenbaum has been pretty bad since he joined Miami, but you have to look at his time with the Jets to really understand how bad of a GM he is. This is a guy that gave a $40+ million extension to Mark Sanchez, who already played 3 years and never had a QB rating over 80. The worst part of the deal? Sanchez still had 2 years remaining on his original contract....who gets a $40 million extension when they have 2 years left on their contract?

I used to say this and people just didn't see the bigger picture. Aponte did a hell of a job with the cap. It was always in great shape and there was always money and contracts that were team friendly.

Tannenbaum is using up cap space but he hasn't put Miami in cap hell just yet but he isn't anywhere near Aponte in his approach. Dawn was much better at balancing the budget.

What a lot of people didn't know is that Aponte negotiated contracts. That is where the real management comes into play. I think any financially literate person could crunch the numbers and do a projection as the cap is a pretty simple model to follow. The real genius is when you develop a strategy to defer expenses and then bake that strategy into player contracts. That's what she was great at, and her legal background helped her excel at that. I'm wondering if Tannenbaum is stepping on her toes at the negotiating table now.
