First I want to say the defense wasn't that god awful. To be fair they let up 20 (should have been 23) on the road when the offense just went 3 and out over and over giving the jets a lot of tries, a lot of time of possession, and good field position.

Not saying the D played well, but they were screwed over by the offence.


That said, why don't we run a dime or "nitro" defense on obvious passing situations. Pull Hull out and let a safety do his coverage job. I know they didn't expect to lose Timmons, but with the lb corps as thin as it is and only 2 coverage lbs (and Kiko has an injury history) you would think we should either get a lb who can just play in the obvious pass situations in the nickel or man up a safety and put another DB in for Hull. That is how teams like KC get things done on obvious passing plays. Did we really get Allen and McDonald and not practice a dime look at all the preseason?
 
Our defense is bad, but no one can put the blame of yesterday's loss on them. It was our offense what screwed us.
 
Our offense needs to do more without a doubt. The defense needed an influx of young talent even before we lost McMillian and Lippett whereas the offense should be ready to perform even with Tannehill missing. But it would be nice to Not have a journeyman Qb with limited weapons and so so line have a career day against us regularly....
 
Specials are not so special. Not seeing where Haack is a better punter. Too many short kicks which were being returned for 15+ yards, while Grant fair catches his punts.

For whatever reason, this team (outside of a few players) did not want to play yesterday. Not sure what it is? Timmons a cancer? Irma's effect? Loss of Tannehill and the guys seeing in practice that Cutler is bad? Not sure?

I think it's a combination of everything, tbh. And it's affecting not only the players but the coaching staff too. Not giving them any excuses, but it's human nature to let those things mess you up.

I agree, we need to start scouting NASA for aliens. How good would our pass coverage look with xenomorphs patrolling the secondary.

I'm under the impression that Blade Runner begins with a scientist fan creating ultra life-like robots that can help his team win...
 
Bottom line Mcclown was like 2wins and 20 losses before yesterday.... Playing for a team that wants to tank the season. No more David Harris,Decker, Marshall,Revis, Mangold... We stunk...
 
The dime was the best formation to call in Madden '92. Prob not a good base defense to call in RL though.

I am not saying call dime every down. I am saying all those plays where we ran a line of Branch, Harris, Suh, Wake we would be better off with a 3rd safety in instead of Hull. Every time we get a team in 3rd and long they complete a big pass on us. Don't you think Jones is better at blitzing, playing zone, and manning up on backs and ends than Hull?
 
It's time to shake things up and reinstate Lawrence Timmons. Our defense lacks that intimidating player . Tired of seeing Powell and Forte getting positive yards yesterday and no heat on the QB. Time to bring him back. Drew Rosenhaus says he wants to play for us , what is taking them so long . He needs to be on that plane to London, , need to see more of McCain too. we need to get PHYSICAL against the Saints!

Usually when playing in dime you are willing to give up the underneath stuff. You are also showing your cards with the pass rush. I'm not a fan of it unless its 3rd and 15 or the offense is playing without a TE or is going empty backfield. I am a fan of having Hull off the field during obvious passing downs though.
 
Dime doesn't mean you give up the underneath. Dime just means you have 6 DBs. You can play a safety in Hulls spot and it would be a dime defense. Green Bay does this, New England does this, KC shut down Gronk doing this, Dallas is doing this right now. You can run the same blitzes and coverages. All you are giving up is the run defense and if you are playing Harris at DT you are already compromised on run defense.

Do you think Kiko and Hull or Kiko and Timmons can match up against Gronk and White? We saw Berry take Gronk away the first game of the season.
