Cutler vs. Tannehill Season-Long Comparison Thread

On the play cutlers late to stills that ball should be thrown back foot hits to dvp he's gonna catch that in stride and run to space no reason to come off that. Dvp is the primary stills the secondary

That one might be rust but he needs to rip that to dvp on the in cut over the strong safeties ear who has cover of the back out of the backfield

Next play is a rpo Ajayi pops for 8 maybe his best run of the day comes off rpo box count

Steen is also stinking up the joint

I never like juice on vertical stick routes from the boundary there is just no respect for his vertical speed from boundary corner athletes.

And it shows

I'm thru the first half it's mostly blown assignments thus far the left guard play being poor the left tackle playing patty cake Julius Thomas giving token effort as a blocker and cutler either leaving a clean pocket taking away the timing route or not pulling the trigger or on one 3rd and long vs cover 2 seeing color and bailing to his right.

Play calling wise I don't have much issue with it. A few predetermined primary throws trying to shorten the sticks.

One full on called from the sideline screen another rpo hand off inside.

I'm not kidding when I say Julius doesn't want to block anyone. At the half he'd be the primary candidate for me for benching.

The 2nd half first possession pa one hopper to stills roll out set your feet and make that damn throw. This is the pros that's bull ****. That ball should be a rope that hits him square in the numbers

Next possession it's 17-0 stop route to Kenny stills vs off should gain minimum 6 poor placement fading completely away gains 4 play after wr screen to dvp throw takes him 2 yards behind the los horrid throw

Next play just throws it up to get it out of his hand deep to stills lots of air on the ball lucky it wasn't picked but I guess given it wasn't no harm no foul. Drive killed by the qb failure to execute on first and 2nd down

Next drive missed td to Landry and a caroo needs to sit down vs zone carries it like man completely on the wr incomplete. Caroo gets one snap and blows the coverage read

Missed hold on Ajayi ISO vs lb should have been called

4th down climbs pocket ball thrown too far outside inc to juice in end zone turnover on downs. Maybe that placement there is rust

Next drive killed by a way too high shallow cross throw to dvp kills any chance he has to get north south. He hits him in the body there he can redirect instead its full extension another drive killed

Next drive 2nd and 10 tunsil gets beat inside absolutely no interest in standing in and throwing the timing route to Kenny stills on the 18 yard out. Bails and throws a one hopper to avoid contact.

Yep that looks like a guy off his couch alright

Maybe Cutler is one of the guys Gase is "mad" at.

He looked like a guy missing his couch vs the Jets quite frankly... There's nothing consistent in his play... No mechanics nothing. Hey 10M for another year, easy! lets do it! **** that!

I'm done I don't really have a problem with the play calling.

I also think that cutler looks like he still has an arm it's just nowhere close to what it used to be so when he bails out as much as he does the fast ball isn't there.

And that's a big deal cause he's rarely gonna step into a throw. We aren't fixing 35 year old mechanics. And he has no interest in taking contact. His eye level drops when he sees color

I'm not trying to knock Tanny, and you're right.

However, Tanny took a ****-ton more sacks.

Sack percentage is the type of statistic that varies wildly for players -- even on the same teams -- from year to year, based on offensive scheme and blocking. Consider that Cutler had a sack rate of only 1.8% (!!!) in 16 starts in 2008, but of over 10% in 2010 in Chicago. The difference? In Denver in 2008, he was coached by Mike Shanahan and had a good offensive line.

I would agree with you that Cutler did a fairly good job of avoiding pressure in his first two starts with Miami, but it also came at the expense of him standing in there with proper footwork and delivering accurate throws.

I am not knocking EITHER quarterback. We need to ****ing block better.

That's no bueno. Cutler has always done the backpedal flick, it's part of his DNA. He's often gotten away with it, just because of his arm. If you're saying the arm's not there anymore... ...uh-oh.

It's not like Cutler is going to become Peyton Manning (Denver version) and learn to live off early releases and timing routes now. We need better pass blocking, that's all there is to it.

And the team needs to stay out of situations in which it has to pass, and the other team knows it.

Of course that's a problem when your own pass defense stinks. Against Drew Brees I can easily see this team getting down big on the scoreboard early and giving the Saints' defense an advantage that makes it look better than it is.

Based on hoops' tape review I can easily see Julius Thomas's becoming a red zone player exclusively, replaced by Fasano in the base offense. I have to wonder as well whether Isaac Asiata will be active and readily inserted if the LG play continues to stink.
