Guys please refrain from taking shots at other posters. As was mentioned you can attack what they are posting but let's not get personal with it.

Carry on.

Lippett is a great example. I thought he was making great progress, ahead of schedule, and was a guy we could have definitely survived with on the boundary this season. And yeah, Nolan Carroll. He developed into a serviceable cornerback over his time in Miami.
Lippet injury sucks, but I think Tank is playing better than he ever has from a coverage perspective. Tony has way better ball skills.

Without his injury Tank wouldn't of gotten the chance to show what he can do.

Is it okay to think that Cutler is not a good QB at this point in his career but think that Gase has done a great job so far as HC...and be optimistic that he'll make Miami a perennial contender? Cuz I fit that bill.

Yeah, Gase brought in Cutler. But not because it was his first choice. Tannehill was his guy. He doesn't think Moore has the goods for a full time starter...like the rest of the NFL. Is he wrong and Moore would be the better choice? Maybe. But I lived a long time loving Don Shula as my head coach, and he selected Olivadotti as his DC for years. If I can forgive that, I sure as hell am not going to indict Gase for grabbing Cutler as a distant Plan B to salvage the season when disaster struck with Tannehill.

My unsung hero on the defensive staff, incidentally, is Lou Anarumo.

Under his coaching, Bobby McCain has developed from an absolute eyesore into a slot corner we can survive with. Nate Allen -- a guy who should not be an NFL starter -- is playing acceptable football at safety. Cordrea Tankersley looks like the best damn rookie corner in the NFL and this is a guy who fell to the third round and was pilloried for not wanting to attack ball-carriers, among other things. Howard is taking a lot of flak, but when you actually watch him play, he's developing into a good young CB.
Spot on, very good observation. It’s good to see player development under these coaches.

Yet, he is winning, and isn't that the only stat that matters?

Does Gase not call the run plays as well, is Gase not partly responsible for Ajayi becoming the back he is in the NFL?

Are you really going to say Cutler has been anywhere remotely close to acceptable this season? Just because we've managed to somehow miraculously fall into a winning record?

If we're going to just go on wins...

Tebow career NFL record = 9-7
Cutler career NFL record = 72-74

Somebody call up Tebow. Quick!

Actually now that I think about it, Tebow would probably be significantly better than Cutler. It's unbelievable how badly Cutler has played this season. He should not be on a football team at all, and he knows it. We paid him 10 million to make a mockery of himself. I don't really blame him, I'd make the same decision. Only the Dolphins...

Where do I say Cutler has been acceptable? This is an argument for how well the coach is doing. We are winning, that is the only stat that matters for a coach. We act as if Gase's only responsibility is how the QB plays when he does everything he can to hide the QB's deficiencies, which he has done, which he did last year when Moore took over. The ton of the team, the fact we continue to win close games, the fact that he has a .619 winning percentage and is 12 - 4 over the last 16 games may just be enough to believe he knows better than a few fans on a forum about which QB should be starting.

Oh.

I've lost quite a bit of faith in Gase this year over Cutler and his playcalling, especially Cutler's huge contract, but I see what you mean. I still don't think he's right about keeping Cutler in, and the 10 million contract was never the right decision, but even if the team goes on a huge losing streak (which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest) I'm going to wait until next year to make up my mind on him.
