Cutler vs. Tannehill Season-Long Comparison Thread

Last years first five games for Tannehill 75 94 94 80 62
This year first five games for Cutler 101 70 70 52 76

Tannehill's performance from one game to the next is more compact, he's more consistent because he has a systematic approach to the game. Jay Cutler is all over the place, this makes it harder for the offense to be in sync, especially when it comes to timing concepts...

I know its just a 5 games sample... But if you graph their career numbers, its rather obvious that Tannehill has alot less variance to his game than Cutler, which is desirable for an offense as a whole, provided that the mean is good obviously...

I mean in those five games Ryan had a range of 62-94 and Jay had a range of 101-52. Ya that's less consistent, but I don't see that personally as being a big deal. And like you said, we're talking very small samples.

I'd be interested to see that career graph you speak of, but that sounds like a lot of work lol.

Thats pretty awesome. What timespan is that though?
Their whole career, which is why Cutler's line goes further... Notice that Tannehill's career rating is 86.5 while Cutlers is 85.3. While almost identical, you can clearly see the difference in constistency between the 2...

I was excited for Cutler when he was signed because of this. I thought that we wouldn’t lose anything with Tannehill going down. However, Cutler looks horrible. He needs a lot of work starting with planting his feet.

Here's what it looks like if you Compare Cutler vs. Tannehill since he's been in the league... So basically, Vet Cutler vs. Whole Tannehill career... Blue is Tannehill, red Cutler

Ya you're right spanning the career for sure Cutler has been less consistent. But it looks like those dips are more season to season than game by game. It's hard to tell though without seeing exactly the years.

Each data point is a single game Rating

Oh OK I got it, for some reason it just didnt look like it would be enough but after looking more closely I see. So ya save for a couple horrid games by Cutler, they dont look all that different. Dont get me wrong Cutler is definitely more inconsistent but it doesnt seem to be that significant of a difference. Personally at the end of the day you get to 10-6, I dont care if those 6 losses had 0 QB ratings.

Thats one way to look at it, but while those 50- rating games are almost garenteed losses, it doesnt mean that every other games will be a win, this is why having a higher floor means that your most likely to keep your team in the game on a consistent basis...

F off! Lol!
I'm just laughing at the fact that the thread starter told anyone making bets to take the spread on the Falcons game and walk away happy. Him and doogy would make an adorable couple. Maybe they can both fawn over the weapon that is called Sturgis.

That's precisely the difference between the game manager and the gunslinger.

The game manager is more consistently average, more rarely losing games himself and permitting the possibility that the rest of the team can win them, while also more rarely winning games himself.

The gunslinger on the other hand is less consistent, winning games himself on occasion, and losing them himself on other occasions, and settling around average overall as well.

The problem now however is that Cutler's gunslinging nature doesn't appear to be resulting in his ability to win games himself anymore.
