any of you old timers have any memories of this game? i was born in '79 so just a little before my time. i watched this on youtube last nite, great stuff, football aint like this anymore. stabler was a great qb, so smooth. this game was basically the end of the early 70s dolphins dynasty. i wasnt even born yet but i can feel the pain of that loss, what a crusher.

I was 10 years old and all I remember, is the last play and how dissappointed I felt that Miami had lost. Back than I only was able to watch the Dolphins play a few times a year, because I lived in NYC, and only able to see them play against the Jets 2x a year and whenever they played on Monday night. So seeing them in the playoffs was like Christmas to me.

I was 12 years old and had become a fan when Shula came over in 1970 and could not believe we wouldn't be going back to the Super Bowl. Heartbroken.

End of our dynasty right there. I was 8 and remember this game all too well. Csonka, Kiick and Warfields last game.

Thanks for the blast down memory lane. Raiders got lucky and dolphins had the game in hand the whole way. The Raiders had great talent but we deserved to win.

And yes I’m old enough that I was at dolphins games before Shula was the coach.

It was billed as Super Bowl VIII 1/2 as those two teams were recognized as the best in the NFL. The Raiders were so tough back then and, I believe, Miami had a 3-13 record against them at one point.

I was nine years old and it's still the only time I ever cried because of a game. I can't believe how emotional it was and I remember feeling like the Dolphins were robbed.

Always wonder if Miami could have beaten Pittsburgh in Miami the following week. The secondary had some real injuries so it would have been tough for sure, but the Dolphins matched up well against those Steeler teams back then.

That game was not only my earliest Dolphins memory but my earliest memory in LIFE. I started crying when they lost and being a few days before Christmas my mom let me open an early present. It was a Miami Dolphins toboggan cap which I still have.

Anyway my earliest memory in life is having my heart broken by the Dolphins and 40+ years later they're still doing it....

Nine years old and I ran out of the family room and through the kitchen crying. My mom could not figure out what had happened.

Funny part is, I might cry harder now.

Raiders receivers were covered with Stick 'Em, a spray on glue, which was outlawed shortly after that season, I don't know exactly when. It was why the ball stuck to Biletnokoff! I think it was also in this game where Madden and Co. soaked the field all night and the Fins did not bring long cleats since the weather was w/o rain in the forecast.

The first time the Dolphins made me cry. :cry
That was the LAST time I cried. 11 years old and the DOLPHINS were on their way to their FOURTH straight Super Bowl. Damn that Snake! Actually after that game I respected the hell out of STABLER & the Raiders. GOD that hurt sooooo bad. From then on, I only allow myself to excited over a win & an 'meh' when they lose. There's been A LOT of 'meh's' since then. lol
