7 Best Miami Dolphins offseason additions

I've got tank 4th

He has played like a solid #2 to date

Played better than tony lippett did last year who looks like he's gonna be coming back to a 3rd boundary role

Agree. I think that's where Lippett belongs as well. The secondary certainly looks a lot better the last couple of weeks pretty much since Tankersley was inserted as a starter.

I'm very pleased with Hayes and think that list is solid. But I would add that I still have high hopes for McMillan and have not given up on Asiata, who has not earned a starting spot apparently.

But dont sleep on TJ McDonald. He was dominating in pre-season and im expecting him to show up that way when he comes back ... fresh and healthy when everyone else is weary and dinged up.

Fans gave up on Ajayi in his rookie season, and I told everyone to hang on, because the kid is good, and he is going to show it eventually. Well, I'm saying the same thing about Asiata. Don't give up on him yet, because the kid has good talent, and he will show it eventually.

Good point on Asiata. I'm frustrated, though, simply because Miami hasn't had good production out of their guards yet. The coaching staff must see Asiata as a work in progress, probably on the pass protect side.

Yeah that's my guess too. But honestly, if Cutler is going to get inside pressure 70% of the time, and throw on the backpedal 90% of the time anyway ... how much worse can Asiata be? I can only think that his effective run blocking could be a game changer against teams like the Jets with mammoth DL that dominate at the point of attack.

If we play the Jets this week and again see Ajayi hit in the backfield or run into the OL with no hole on 30% of the plays again ... I'm going to lose it. Wasting our best offensive asset like that is just unfathomable to me. This week, we need 24 points out of the offense. If not, I'm getting on a soap box for Asiata to start.

I've been happy with Hayes signing and play.
My question is why they change Hayes' remaining contract 1 year from original 2 years.
I guess it was part of deal when he was traded.

I don’t think it’s any surprise the defense is playing as well as it has now that they have 4 solid DEs and 3 DTs to rotate around throughout the game. They looked almost fresh at the end of the Falcons game.

Didnt we have Hayes signed to a 2-yr deal and then they strangely changed it to 1 year instead? Or am I thinking of someone else?
We did, per his request.

Which he then admitted he regretted asking for, cause he loves the organization.

Prob a good move on his part bc he will end up making more money this offseason. Sucks for us I liked locking him in originally for 2 yrs.
He seems to be happy here, so hopefully we can keep him on a team friendly deal.

A little OT, but given Miami wants to be a "run O," I think they'd be better served having good run OLmen (e.g., Asiata). Yes, some passing will be needed to empty the box, but once that's done, the nasty guys should excel. This, of course, means Gase needs to mix run/pass, move the pocket around, and try some quick release patterns. One thing for sure, interior linemen who can pass block AND run block aren't on the roster.

I hope Miami signs Hayes long-term. What a tremendous trade. Godchaux is the biggest surprise as most probably figured he'd be a rotational guy at best. Tankersley has been really, really good. Harris is coming along nicely.

Too bad the offense needs so much attention because I'd love to see the team add more talent on the defensive side and make that a championship unit.

Continue to invest in the D! Build on a strength. And I think the O could be closer than it appears at times. If Tannehill comes back as expected, develop one of our young interior linemen. Id be looking to get a stud TE and an interior lineman in the draft. Still plenty of room to add to D. Hell...I have no problem with the top pick being a D player...we could still use young DEs and LBs...and a FS.

If Tannehill has complications, the O is in trouble anyway. Get a strong D to hold down the fort while you try to get his successor.

Agreed. But, I think Gase wants to be a pass offense ... it's just not working. He's committed to the zone blocking scheme and the short passing game conceptually. But he is trying to leverage the talent he has in Ajayi.

Sorry, I just don't see that. Looks to me like run is the focus with some passes (grudgingly) sprinkled in.I get he wants the run to set up the pass and he's succeeded. He just doesn't know it. 8-9 in the box IS the run setting up the pass. Play-action. Screens. Quick passes. All those are available. But I get the impression he thinks the run doesn't set up the pass til JA gets 100 yds.

He WANTS to be a passing offense, like he was with Tannehill and more importantly under Peyton Manning. But he is ADAPTING to what he has at the moment, which is an elite power runner. If he had the OL and QB to be a pass-first offense, I'm convinced he would. So he's doing what he can, and retooling it temporarily to be a running team that complements the defense and letting the defense win the game. But if he starts getting time to throw, I'm expecting him to revert to a predominantly passing offense.
