5. MIAMI DOLPHINS
BEST-GRADED STARTER: Ndamukong Suh, DI, 88.5
WORST-GRADED: Xavien Howard, CB, 37.4

Miami’s defense has held some potent offenses to minimal points this season, with the Falcons being the latest team to fail to top 20 points in the game. No team has put up more than 20 on them this year (New Orleans managed 20 exactly), and they have been able to get after the quarterback as well as make plays in the run game.

Fair assessment.

It’s hard to argue. Considering how lack luster our offense is, and how often the defense is forced to be on the field, they look solid

eye test looks good as far as how we are playing as a unit...top 5 is rich, but i can see it.

we haven't been taken advantage of by anyone. sure, cassell and jets are in there...but so are the falcons and drew brees

any idea what they had us ranked after the first 2 weeks? we all agreed we had the worst D in the league after the Chargers and Jets carved us up.

What a major improvement from the defense. An absolutely outstanding offseason for the front office in finding some real talent.

That gives me hope that the offense can have a quick turnover as well.

On another note, what's the opinion on Howard moving forward? I personally like him, though he did struggle early when (for whatever reason) the defense was giving a seven yard cushion. If you're in charge of improving the team do you look for an upgrade or like how he is developing?

Carved up?

We've got some really savvy vets ala Brock Marion from the JJ and Wandstett era.

Good rotational players.

Underrated blitzing LB's.

Top 5?...I'll take it for now.

First, let me say that I think that much of PFF's numbers are a joke. Some are reasonable, but many are misguided.

Having said that, it's surprising that PFF have them that high considering how terrible the defense (especially the secondary) looked the first few games.

Can maxwell just get his head together and contribute? I feel like him and Tank on the boundary and X in the nickel would be stout.

Nothing including Maxwell is stout. It's looking more and more like his play in 2nd half of last season was a fluke.

I still want to give the guy a chance to get time, he shut down some great receivers last year and our season has yet to get hard.

I'll trust Burke to have the right players on the field. I started noticing the defense a couple weeks back when I realized that they're pretty darn good. The D is loaded with talent, Suh, Wake and Jones are legit stars in the NFL. Hayes is rock solid against the run and having Timmons, Alonzo and Maleleuga as LBers gives a some real stopping power in the run game. I'm very excited with the young talent emerging like Harris, Tank, X and the rookie tackles etc. Even 97 looks like he woke up! Maybe not handing him the starting job and sitting him on the bench did the kid some good. I saw passion that I hadn't seen before out of him. He gets hammered on this site but #28 has been all over the field, he is even in some blitz packages. Things are looking up on defense, we're building something special. Coach Burke is looking excellent imo. Hopefully, the offense will come alive soon, then we'll really have something.

I have been McCains biggest doubter since the beginning. This year his play has me worried he's on steroids lol
