Yes, the Dolphins were shoved off the field by the Jets a month ago, 20-6. Yes, the Jets are a surprise at 3-3 this season. Yes, they just gave the Patriots a good game a week ago.
But when you sift through the matchups and compare the talent, this should be a good day for the Dolphins. Here are five reasons why:
1. The Jets have no pass rush. What’s the easiest way to get Jay Cutler looking 34, throwing off his back foot and wanting no part in an afternoon? Rush him. He ranks 24th against pressure (he was 32nd until a decent game last week against Atlanta’s pressure). Yet the Jets have no sacks this year. None. They’ve used eight defensive linemen who are an astounding 0-for-602 on pass rushes this year as far as sacks (per ESPN’s Rich Cimini). And, yes, of course, you don’t have to sack a quarterback to get pressure on him. But it’s a telling stat nonetheless. The Jets have a good defensive line with Leonard Williams and Muhammad Wilkerson, too. For a Dolphin offensive line that had trouble protecting Cutler in the opening games, it’s a stat that could swing this game. There are some variables to watch, namely Jake Brendel probably starting for Mike Pouncey at center. The Jets have good defensive coaches and have tried to mount a rush. They’re among league leaders in blitz calls. The larger problem is …

I just hope their two big guys inside don't find it this weekend cause they should be much better than their playing. The Jets of the last few years never had an edge rush even with Fatso at the helm but they do have stout tackles if they put it together. Thankfully they lost snacks in the middle. Regardless, this is a age we must win no excuses.

The best thing the Dolphins have going for them in this game is the fact they were embarrassed by the Jets already, payback time

Running against that Jets front will be extremely hard for our guards. I would mix in a fair amount of play actions and challenge their CB's away from those rookie safeties.

Brendel can get to the 2nd level, but our guards cannot open holes. This would be a good game to play Sam Young as a TE like we did successfully a good deal last year. Jesse Davis? Eric Smith? Hopefully we will find out. Otherwise this supposedly inept Jets defense looks like it can stop us.

Time for Cutler to get that passing game going. Maybe then we can open up some run lanes for the J-Train.

great post.
the Jets Insider was on the Joe Rose Show and said the same. Seemed like the safeties were playing in the box and he did mention us not challenging the Corners

Eric Smith is on IR I believe. I like your thinking though. Have to change our game plan from what we did last time. Hopefully Cutler grows a pair and stops throwing while back-pedalling every time a defender is within 5 yards of him.

I’m expecting the Dolphins to cruise in this one. Should be a completely different team in terms of focus and motivation. Last time these two teams faced off, we were tired, out of sync, reeling from Irma and Timmons situation, etc.

Now we have stabilized and focused. Not saying we don’t have plenty of issues, esp on offense, but still not expecting this one to be close.

Forgive me if my data is wrong, but don't the Jets rank 27 or 28 against the run?

We've seen Brian Hartline beat up on Buster Skrine was he was in Cleveland. Since Hartline sucks our current WR's should be able to do the same.

Maybe but all I remember is when we played week 3 we couldn't run worth anything

Unfortunately, they can create a variety of stats about our offensive and why the Jets should be able to win again. I may have my aqua lens, but I got to believe that our boys want some payback.

They're gonna load the box and stop Ajayi. We have to be able to counter. Period, end of story.
