People worry too much about yards. Other teams are all professionals and everybody is capable of making plays. Points against is the ONLY defensive stat that matters.
one could argue points for and points against are the only stats that truly matter in football, sure
i think it's the best parameter for a macro analysis of how an offense and defense is performing over a large enough sample size. but things like third down %, yards per play, passer rating allowed by a defense, yards per rush allowed, etc...these stats can help paint a more complete picture on how well and sustainable a defense is playing.
ultimately, if we continue this rate of points allowed, i will be very happy. the likelihood of that happening, can be better predicted when taking other stats into account as well. I am not exactly a huge stats guy....so when i watch the team play, my eyes tell me this defense is playing very complimentary ball, and stopping some high powered offenses. The difference in our front 7 from last year to this year is unbelievable, and our corners are doing their job for the most part too.
edit: also forgot to mention, yards are on the very bottom of the list when it comes to meaningful stats, definitely agree with that.
