Does it matter who is qb, with this defense?

Gase can also deceive us and say Cutler's timetable is extended if Moore plays well, until he doesn't play well

The only issue I have with the defense is that the secondary is almost a sure bet to give up multiple big plays per game. Lots of blown assignments by our safeties this season. For that reason alone......you need the offense to produce big plays to counter.

If Moore produces more big plays down the field then it's a simple choice.

QB Winz is vastly overrated. It's a team game...but it's still the most important position on the team. Teams with great defenses, strong running games and olines that give lots of time can certainly overcome middling QB play, but the QB play makes a difference, sure.

That careless Cutler deflected interception putting the Jets at the doorstep of the end zone really shouldn't be held against the Fins D.

No, it probably shouldn't, but technically, it is. If the TD was scored on the interception, then no, but the defense gave up the touchdown, even though it was from the 1 yard line. Can't blame them, hard to stop a team that close, but if we have the top 5 defense that people say we have, the Jets get 3 there, not 7. Regardless, 21 points given up to the Jets is still a lot for a "great" defense. This defense has potential, but as someone stated previously, the young corners are going to give up big plays. Good QBs will take advantage and exploit them.

Understand the point though they got it 1st and goal at the half yard line. Had they got it at the 5 I'd agree w you that you can get out of that w 3 points.

Not when your back-up is the best in the league!!! We going to the SU PA BOWL woohoo!!!! Kill the Ravens with this D. Flacco looking very Nickfoleon Dynamite out there HAHAHAHA!

That's asking a bit much for the benchmark of a top D. Id not count on the No Name Defense or Steel Curtain to consistently stop a pro level O from scoring a TD when they get the ball at the 1 with no time constraints.

The numbers make our defense look better than it really is. Giving up 28 points to a team like the Jets shows we have weak areas on the D. Once teams figure out those areas, they can exploit them, and this defense moves down the ladder.

The "defense" gave up 14. Tank gave up a TD by getting beat and Cutler gave them another. The first two plays of the game they got caught off guard and they essentially started the game at the 30. I always tell people I watch with, the first drive of the game means nothing at all. We held a good jets rushing team to under 100 and provided consistent pressure. Tackling has been bad but I think they will be ok moving forward

Last I checked, Tank was part of our defense. And if a QB like Brady knows he is the weak link and scores 35 points against Tank, does that not count towards our defense? I'm not arguing anything other than the fact that our defense has holes (Tank is one right now). The OP basically said the QB doesn't matter if you have an elite defense. I can agree with that to an extent, but we don't have one. Our defense has been playing well of late, but they are not "special".

The most important defensive statistic in the NFL (aside from points allowed) is the opposing passer rating, and the Dolphins right now are among the worst in the league in that area, with an opposing passer rating of 102.9.

If that figure doesn't come way down, expect this team to finish with very few additional wins on this season.

To the defense credit the Jets did get the ball on the 2 for one score.

Thankfully, other than Brady and Alex Smith, there aren't any qb's on our schedule excelling at passer rating right now. Obviously that may change as their games approach.

QB by committee!!!!!!!!!!!!! No really Matt Moore is gonna have his opportunity this week and maybe next week. If he balls out he keeps the job. If not Jay Cutler is the QB.

The problem there, however, is that neither does Josh McCown excel at passer rating on a typical basis. Against the Dolphins this year, however, he's had passer ratings of 108.4 and 126.3.

So I think you have to wonder who else the Dolphins pass defense may be made to look all-world, even when that isn't their norm.

It matters a whole lot. If Tannehill had been the QB, with the defense only giving up 20 or less until yesterday (Probably would have been better with Tannehill considering the offense would have held the ball more, giving opponent less chance to score), then Miami probably would be undefeated right now.

Now with Moore, (though I am not a huge Moore is starting material for more then 2 games), what seemed like painful in getting points with Cutler, with Moore, Miami will all of a sudden seem more like a machine moving the ball and even scoring.
