TJ McDonald

Here's the thing, TJ McDonald is an excellent football player, and he'll be fresh and uninjured when he is allowed to play. While he may not be our ideal FS, I'm very very confident that he'll be dramatically better at everything than we've seen from Nate Allen. McDonald will put genuine fear into receivers, stuff the run game, allow Jones to freelance more, and he has enough recovery speed to be effective in the FS role.

I'm excited to get him back in the team, because he's simply one of those guys the offense has to keep tabs on at all times. He can shut down the run game, he can scare deep threats so much they don't catch the ball. He is going to make less mental mistakes than Nate Allen has. And, TJ McDonald can tackle. That's not meant as a joke ... tackling is becoming a real problem in today's NFL where the collective bargaining agreement prevents padded practices etc., and tackling simply isn't practiced nearly enough.

Honest question: Has anyone seen Nate Allen make a play all year? I remember a couple of dropped passes that should have been INTs at the beginning of the year but that is about it. It feels like we are playing with 10 guys on D. I can't wait for McDonald to be ready.

On the flip side, how many plays has he given up?

When you put it like that I get visions of a massively disruptive defense. hope he lives up to billing.

"Bring in the reinforcements!"

Reshad Jones is not bringing that surgically repaired shoulder on anything horizontal across the los at the 2nd level. He’s trying to tackle with one arm on those.

I’m starting to get a little nervous and that shoulder harness isn’t helping.

Weird thing is though he doesn’t seem to be favoring it on anything downhill. Yet
Ouch, if your noticing that then opposing WR and OC have got him circled until his proves otherwise.

tj and jones will be on the field at the same time. i dont care if he isnt a traditional fs. he is way better than allen, who has been none existent

The question is, who gets put down when he is s activated?

Genuinely don’t think Nate deserves the criticism he receives on this board, but can think of 2 plays in last 2 games where poor safety play cost us TDs, not sure if both on him but I think they were;
Vs Atlanta when Howard beaten deep Safety misreads and pushes up on TE in the flats.
Vs Jets Tank beat deep with no safety help which should have been there.

Agreed on the criticism. It’s not gerbil Wilson back there. Agreed on the falcons td. I can’t recall the one vs Tank, would like to see the play again

Nate Allen not blowing coverage/assignments or getting beat is him making a play to me at this point.

Could be wrong but I think the safety in the area on the Robby Anderson TD was Reshad Jones. Still unclear whether or not there was supposed to be over the top safety help on the play.

The first TD last night was Nate Allen's fault. He was late getting over and the receiver ran by him.
