Dolphins trade for Saints LB Stephone Anthony

Logical or not, IF and that's obviously a big IF Jordan is a key piece to Seattle's defense this year and moving forward, it would be just another indictment on our FO and coaching staff. He would have been expensive to keep on PUP and I get why they got frustrated and cut him, but IF he plays great in Seattle and Harris/Branch continue to underwhelm, that just speaks to how inept our entire organization is. Hopefully, Jordan doesn't end up being anything special because he's a bum yada yada, because he finally has a great coach and environment now and that can change a lot for a talented and frustrated athlete.

How many second chances was Miami supposed to give him?

One more, should have kept him on the PUP. But I also thought we should have tagged OV in the first place (only player in the past 3 years I really wanted us to keep) so I feel our entire RE position has been botched since that decision. Praying Harris ends up being a good player, because I know Olivier is and Branch has really disappointed me this season. I was one of the few that thought Branch's deal was a good one, only because I knew how much we miss OV and need youth at DE for our probably lousy scheme :(

If Jordan didn't have his magical sack last week would you still be pining for him? Branch has more sacks than Vernon does this year FWIW. Yeah it's a 3 to 2 comparison but its still valid.

Vernon was also instrumental in turning that defense around last year, this year the entire team is a dumpster fire probably due to coaching. Vernon's abilities in the run game and his stamina are so much better than Branch and Harris's it's not even worth discussing. And sure, if Jordan haden't gotten a sack I wouldn't be pining for him as much as if he haden't. But he did, and Cliff Avril is done, so that creates a void in Seattle that I will be watching intently. Smart pick up by them, smart organization unlike us.

Would suck and of course just be the same ole Dolphins luck if Dion Jordan turns into anything. What can you do though when Jordan was in Miami, his job/football was not a priority to him. He took his money and didn't seem to put in any effort. He was more interested in getting high and having fun. Now of course when he is kicked to the curb and has to fight to keep his NFL career going he will actually put in some real effort.

He was stupid and got suspended, like Lane Johnson last year which killed their season. But his biggest issue with us imo was his knee, we just didn't know if he would ever get right physically. But instead of being patient and putting him on the PUP or whatever like Seattle did, we just gave up on the kid. Let's all hope he doesn't make us pay for that...

I understand that. It's not like the team has loads of talent that they can just give up on guys with potential. This team has a severe need for high level or at least potentially above average talent on both sides of the ball. The coaches aren't going to admit it, but most fans know that this team is not making the playoffs. It's time to see what they have in young guys like Anthony, Asiata, Chase Allen, McTyre, Brendel, and even MarQueis Gray. Of course they will continue to start guys who are past their prime or hobbled such as Bushrod, Mauluga , Julius Thomas and Pouncey. Better to see the young guys in real game action now before free agency and the draft.

Vernon also is a big reason why the Giants defense quit on the field this year, yes they quit trying in games. Vernon is getting paid 18 million and has never really produced. The guy has played next to Wake and Pierre Paul his whole career and has 1 season of double digit sacks and no pro bowls. He somehow became a darling for rushing the QB after Wake went down but this board would implode on him if he had that contract with us and only 2 sacks so far. You don't win with Vernon and that salary he simply isn't good enough.

He had every chance with us and Seattle is barely paying him anything. You are making this assumption based off one sack. The fact you claim we didn't give him enough chances is laughable. We did what any sane team would do with him. If we only were paying 1 million like Seattle is than we could have treated him differently. Money was simply too much for an injured and severely out of shape defensive player.

Only on a Miami Dolphins forum would a dude who hasn't played in two years had knee injuries and drug suspensions and recorded 4 sacks in 5 years be talked about as an upgrade to the defense.
