With a huge cap hit and by most observers' view below-average play this year, seems like a no-brainer he's gone next year. But Gase's unwavering public faith in him is boggling...true he's not the type to throw players under the bus but to say things like 'Pouncey's been our best lineman this year' beggars belief. Bottom line: Do you think he'll be cut? If not I think that bodes very badly for 2018 for multiple reasons
- sieve at C yet again
- $9m in cap
- gase truly is delusional

Like I said in another thread, Gase thinks Pouncey is as good as Stevenson was back in the 80's. Starting a guy who can't even practice is not a good move. The one time this year when the O-line did a decent job was in the Falcons's game when Pouncey didn't play the 2nd half and Brendel did a good job but what can we do? We're just fan that don't know anything and our FO/Coaching staff knows everything

Ozzy rules!!

Unfortunately or Fortunately however you see it, with the looming cap situation, Miami may have no choice but to cut Pouncey. Unless they’re foolish enough to restructure him creating potential cap issues in the future. Once Cutler was signed the Pouncey Domino, tilted a bit further.

Pouncey has to be one of the 1st cuts in the offseason. I would be shocked if he's a starting center for a team next year

the thing with Pouncey is his missed practices during the week and how that effects continuity. cut him.

A restructure here would be so much a classic FO move, especially with Gase's admiration for the player. I prefer he be released in conjunction with how the offseason comes together and what other moves are made but I bet he stays. Gase aslso seems to feel that he is a leader in that locker room.

He needs to go. And Gase needs to knock it off with playing favorites or getting “his guys.”

You’re right and this is exactly what scares me about this coach. He’s seems to look at players with blinders on. Everyone in the NFL, but Gase, saw Cutler as washed up. His players have helped create the looming cap problems, especially if he continues or keep refusing cut bait or stubbornly hang on to over the hill players.

The thing with Pouncey is that just prior to this season he was still using a cane to walk with after his surgery. That was a serious surgery that takes a long time to fully recover from. The fact that he is able to play with any level of NFL capability is a tribute to him and to coach Gase.

I remember when Julius Peppers played for the Bengals and came down with mononucleosis. It sapped his strength and stamina for the rest of the season, showing in reduced field performance, and it took another season on another team before he was back at full capability. Mononucleosis can be a terribly debilitating disease. Major surgeries, even with good results, often take a long time to heal. Even Cam Newton has taken a long time to fully recover from his shoulder surgery. Too bad his recovery was fully completed on the game when we played him.

The question isn't "should we cut Pouncey?"; the question is "who will we replace him with that is an improvement?". This is true for every position on the team. The idea that there are NFL caliber players available to us that are as good or better replacements for any position on our team is a child's fantasy. There is a focused competition for good FA's. There are fewer, but better, opportunity's for trades when there is a team with a lot of depth at a given position. The draft is a crap shoot. Getting 50% of your draft selections on the field in two years is a success for any team in the NFL.

Why aren't we focusing on how to best use what we have and developing a 3 year plan for drafting, Free Agency and trading, in that order. I suspect that is exactly what the Dolphins have been doing and plan to continue to do. Not glamorous, but a solid way to build a team.

I am beginning to suspect that Fantasy Football has caused many folks here to think you can pick almost any player you want at any time to establish a Fantasy Team. That's great, but it is called Fantasy Football for a very good reason.

Peppers was never a Bengal.

Hate to be that guy....
