Is Gase Being Taken Down By Nepotism?

I think losing Tannehill and the LB situation was a powerful kick to the nuts. Tough for any coach to overcome and it's really hard to put a gauge on Gase this year.

It's a poorly coached team! Gase is in over his head. Burke, rizzi, etc all below average.
An example of coaching , um football under golden laughing stock, under richt um will be a top 10 team every yr.

Semi-Famous quote by Daryl Green about never hiring anyone with your last-name to manage your your/foundation can be applied here.

On a side note, do my Dolphins have any assistant coaches from perennial playoff teams? It seems all of Gase comes from bad teams.

Green bay got shutout yesterday. both teams are losing is the point, Landry has freelances since his rookie year. The problem is Tannehil knew him and what he was doing and Cutler doesn't. Landry needed to adjust to the new QB and stick to his routes more and hasnt. I can't blame Cutler for that, he only gets blamed for the terrible throws. When you lose your QB your team loses unless you have an elite defense.

Your missing the point , team as a whole is not well coached. If tannehill was qb he would get destroyed anyways cuz interior of the line is below average.

Dont forget the fact that they refuse to pick up a decent interior lineman when we have needed at least 2 over the last 2 years and because of this the line is a hot dumpster fire

Poorly coached. Poorly run organization overall. Just look at all the hits we've had this year:

1. Our DC from last season is signed away for a HC position..so we replace him with a clueless rookie.

2. Our starting QB who was injured last year and missed the end of the season foregoes surgery, then gets injured again and is lost for THIS season. He's replaced with a guy with a bad reputation that's convinced to come out of retirement (with the guarantee he'll start!!).

3. Our most promising draft pick at a position that's dearly needed is injured (for the season) on a stupid play in PS. He's replaced with an old-fat retired LB who takes several weeks to get in shape. Ultimately, that LB is arrested and cut!!

4. Our MLB last year who has a handful of really nice plays (and a lot of mediocre ones) is given a HUGE contract...them moved to WOLB. (Brilliant!!).

5. One of our stand-out DE's last year is also given a huge contract after only ONE GOOD SEASON. (Another brilliant move!!).

6. Our big FA LB signing from the off season, Timmons, goes AWOL the day before Game 1. He's suspended for 4 games...then put back into the lineup without a word.

7. Another big off season acquisition (Thomas) who had a mediocre year last year continues that trend.

8. Our O-Line coach is discovered to be a coke head and does lines in his office before practice!!

9. Our top offensive player (Ajayi) is a locker-room cancer, so we trade him for scraps.

But everything else is peachy! What else could go wrong?

We can debate why we are losing until we are blue im the face but it doesn't change my statement that if the starting QB goes down the team is going to lose unless you have a defense like the vikings. That was my original point and it holds true

Both Ajayi and Landry were guilty of not doing their homework. Gase made Ajayi the example. All good except the team is lost without Ajayi, 2nd and 1, 3rd and 1 and finally 4th and 1. All stuffed. Lusaka Polite where are you?

Did we convert the short yardage downs with Ajayi this year? Not bashing. Just curious.

Bumping this thread because I see on the Fins organizational chart that Gase's retread, old school Henning type dinosaur of a father in law who was hired in April '16 as a "consultant" now has a more formal title: Senior Director, Football and Player Development (2018–present)

Again, another out of step failure who weaseled his way into a decision-making capacity and is no doubt in the ear of Gase who can't tell him to "**** off" lest he sleep on the couch. Are the changes visible in Gase between his first successful season and the last one attributable to the influence of a geezer who keeps telling him "in my day, we did it this way?" AFAIC nepotism rarely turns out to be a good thing.

Oh and Jets retread Terry Bradway is a Fins "Senior Scout" thanks to TBum.

Tough to prove something like this is going on.

No one really knows exactly what Vitt does or doesn't do. Doubt Gase let's him make major decisions for him.

It would be really nice if we could just get an organization that focused on hiring competent individuals and held people accountable for their ability to fulfill their job.

IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK?

Of course it is because we're the Dolphins.

Accountability? In todays world? Nah they'll just give it a diagnosis and name it something like coaching dysmorphia disorder.

That's true, but by the same token do you think an undistinguished career retread like him would have wormed his way into a corporate title of "Sr Director of Football and Player Development if his son in law wasn't the HC? It's a pretty lofty title that infers strategic development and direction of the franchise. Is he really qualified for that role? We've seen changes in Gase over the last season, largely him becoming more intractable. Now one can argue that's a good thing, but IMO if it's because his archaic thinking FIL is putting the bug in his ear, it's disconcerting.

My bottom line is I'd rather have Gase here without his FIL being in the organization as I don't think he adds any contemporary philosophical football paradigms to the equation.

This might have the makings for a reality t.v. show.

Juicy theory!

I think its probably not the case, BUT....

It would certainly explain our jacked up linebacker corp and ****ty secondary.

Maybe Vitt gave him the idea that interchangeable safeties were a good idea, because you know, the NFL isnt a passing league, it is all about stopping the run.

That’s the thing that blew my mind, Vitt was a former LB coach for a number of years. So we brought in Lawrence Timmons? Rey Maualuga? Then adding insult to injury, Matt Burke was a fomer LB coach since 2009. I mean, something just isn’t right there.

Hopefully, Raekwon is fully healthy this season. That was a major blow losing him before we even got to see what he had. I was really excited with that pick, and believe he has some great potential.
