Can anyone name an example when the Dolphins traded picks to move up in the draft for a player and it actually panned out? I can think of 3 times where it was a failure:
1.) Vernon Carey: Traded up ONE SPACE with Minnesota. I forget what they gave them in return, but was moving up one spot worth it for Carey? He was a decent starter, but the Dolphins got played by NE who feigned interest in Carey. Once the Dolphins made the move up, NE drafted Vince ****ING Wilfork!
2.) Dion Jordan: Dolphins gave up the #12 and #42 pick to move up to #3 to draft the epic bust known as Dion Jordan
3.) Leonte Carroo: The Miami Dolphins traded up to the 86th pick in the 3rd round to select Leonte Carroo, giving up our 6th round pick in 2016 as well as our 3rd and 4th round selections in 2017 to the Vikings. Carroo has barely played any snaps in the 2 and the half years he has been with the Dolphins. Meanwhile the Vikings drafted a starting Center (Pat Elflein) with the 3rd round pick in 2017
Can anyone name any examples when moving up actually WORKED?
IMO, the strategy should be to accumulate as many picks as possible and take your shots, not trade multiple picks to move up and snag a guy who may not pan out. It's a numbers game. The more lottery tickets, the better chances you have to win!
