Running backs to target

Bo is still only about 75-80% back in terms of full recovery explosiveness from his broken leg. You're absolutely right, he doesn't have his explosiveness back yet.

Harris is slippery and elusive, while pairing that up with excellent running instincts and vision. Great blend of size, speed and agility. However, perhaps the most underrated skill Harris has that translates to the next level is pass protection.

Harris reminds me a bit of Thurman Thomas, minus maybe the pass catching. Is that a good comparison or am I way off base there?

Also would like to get your view on Love out of Stanford. Picking in the middle of round 1, Miami certainly could have the pick of a few quality backs. Guice might be there. Thoughts?

Well I like any comparison to Thurman Thomas. I played against Thurman in high school in 1982 & '83. Harris is significantly bigger than Thurman was, even after 10 years in the NFL.

If you prefer a great RB that Harris is more in the mold of in my opinion coming out of college.... Clinton Portis. The size/speed ratio, slashing running style, the whole deal. He just reminds me a lot of Portis.

Clinton Portis was a 2nd round pick, somewhere in the 50 range if I recall correctly. I think that's a good range for Harris also.

Love is a scatback type, but he can flat out fly. Smaller back...stays nicked up a lot. This is the first year he's ever been relied on to be the feature back for Stanford, and he's been dinged quite a bit. Reminds me of Tiki Barber coming out of Virginia.

Guice reminds me of Cadillac Williams. Every single carry he runs as if his life depends on it. He'll be a good one as long as he's fortunate enough to stay healthy and avoid injuries. Which of course applies to everybody.

That's cool, Slimm, that you played against Thurman Thomas. Were you on offense or defense?

Guice is a guy I think Miami would have a hard time passing up in round one. Other than that, I think they will look to fill that running back need in the mid-rounds.

Both. Safety and Tight End. Mostly just safety in '83. I went to high school at Bay City in Texas, we met Thurman's Willowridge team in the playoffs 2 years in a row in '82 & '83.

They beat us in '82. We beat them 42-0 in '83. I played with Hart Lee Dykes, Simon Fletcher, and Joe DeLoach at Bay City.

I'll always believe that Bay City team I played on was one of the best high school teams there ever was in the state of Texas.

Joe DeLoach went on to beat Carl Lewis and win a gold medal in the '88 Olympics.

Also played basketball with LaBradford Smith there at Bay City. He went on to play basketball for Louisville and was a 1st round pick in the NBA.

The guy nobody's mentioning, and I guess I understand it because it's sort of out of left field, is Quinton Flowers.

I've been following the kid since high school. He's not destined to be a quarterback. You don't need to watch him throw very many passes to come to that assessment. He struggles to be "within the neighborhood" accurate on even the most basic throws. He's not built for the consistent mechanics you need at the position.

But as far as pure make you miss, juking, ball carrying, run to daylight, be an athlete type guys go...I haven't seen a guy with this sort of pure elusiveness, patience, speed, feet, and vision at the QB position since probably Mike Vick. I've seen some guys that are pretty elusive, but I do think this is the most impressive guy I've seen that way since Vick. There's a reason Alabama recruited him and it wasn't to play quarterback. I don't know if they intended him for RB because I don't know the inner workings of that program, and Flowers was a safety of some note back in high school playing both sides of the ball. But I think he's done so much ball carrying work at South Florida that it's moot. That's the position he should shoot for in the NFL, IMO.

The ability to become a complete back, to block well and to be able to catch the football, these are things you can't know about him. But if you start with the fact he's the team leader, hard worker, solid build, and you figure in that a quarterback generally has a lot on his plate in terms of understanding play design, how every player fits into the play design, etc...you could do a lot worse. Immediately, he should be an excellent punt returner.

As a RB, he's like a Dalvin Cook. As a QB, he's like a Dalvin Cook.

I watched him live from the press box as he dueled with Dalvin Cook, who ran 28 times for 267 yards in that game. Quinton finished with 18 runs for 169 yards of his own. After the game, when he was in front of us being peppered with questions, Jimbo Fisher could have chewed rocks he was so pissed off at the way FSU's defense continued to get chewed up by Flowers, who kept the Bulls far more in the game than Jimbo thought they should've been.

If you've got to watch just one play to see the elusiveness and speed I'm talking about, just get a look at this one. This is not a quarterback surprising a defense by scrambling around on guys that are in pass rush mode, not staying in their rush lanes.

Whole video is worth watching though. I love Sony Michel and I love Jaylen Samuels. But I think it's entirely possible Quinton Flowers is the best SENIOR running back prospect in the class.

Impressive stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Royce Freeman when healthy is a very good all around back. Penny from SDSU would allow Miami to rid themselves of Grant and open up another roster spot for someone worthy. Penny can do a lot of things within an offense and the return game, Good Player!!!

Looks like we're definitely drafting a RB next year. lol.
