To Eat,Or Not To Eat? That Is The Question

But we CAN trade them, that actually frees up $10.5 million in cap space.

Nobody is trading for either of them. Not with those contracts, especially Branch.

Actually, I can think of one team that would trade for them, but they already play for them.

Lol I'll take a 2019 7th for both of em...

These numbers are for taken from Spotrac.

Ndamukong Suh 26,1 M $ caphit. 22,2 M $ deadcap. He will not be released. But they can reconstruct him.
Ryan Tannehill 19,8 M $ caphit. 4,6 M $ deadcap. He could be released but seing how Gase loves RT he will remain here. Maybe they try to reconstruct him.
Andre Branch 10 M $ caphit. 11,9 M $ deadcap. He will not be released.
Kiko Alonso 9,65 M $ caphit. 13,125 M $ deadcap. He will not be released.
Ja´Wuan James 9,341 M $ caphit. No deadcap. They might release him or try to renegotiate.
Mike Pouncey 9 M $ caphit. 2 M $ deadcap. They might release him or try to renegotiate.
Cameron Wake 8,625 M $ caphit. 3,5 M $ deadcap. Might be traded or try to renegotiate.
Lawrence Timmons 8,225 M $ caphit. 2,75 M $ deadcap. Might be released.
Julius Thomas 6 M $ caphit. No deadcap. Will probably be released.

I understand where you're coming from, but nobody is taking on those terrible contracts for one mediocre rotational DE and an overrated, undersized LB for any draft picks.

The other thing to consider is that Kiko, as overrated as he is, is still by far our best LB. Thats what happens when you rely on UDFAs to fill one of the most important units. So, we have them and a rookie coming off an ACL tear. Yikes.

Branch and Kiko are safe just because of the contracts they are on. The 2 veterans on offense that should be on notice are Pouncey and James. I see Pouncey as being forced to restructure his contract to stay on this team and James may very well be waived because of the play of Jesse Davis, this kid came out of no where and is turning himself into a decent right tackle over the last 2 games. If he continues to play well James is gone.

On defense, Wake should start to become a bit worried. He has been invisible the last 4 games and doesn't cost us much to move on, Phillips also has a lot on the line and personally I think will be released. Timmons will be gone at linebacker and I would think they would approach Kiko about a restructure to the current deal and see what he says. Jones may also be forced to look into a restructure due to the start he had this year.

The big changes to some of these players won't happen until after 2018 just because of how the guaranteed money worked out. This is the penalty teams play for investing money in the wrong players.

Does anyone know if we can just cut James after picking up the 5th year option? Would we eat something? There has to be some significance to that move.

James contract is only guaranteed for injury, we can waive him if healthy with 0 cap hit
