Critical of Gase/Dolphins?

The entire league is the worse that I can remember, start with the refs, they are far too involved in the outcome of games and ruin the fun of watching. I remember pre season games that the announcers were making fun of the avalanche of flags, but everybody figured they were in preseason form...it hasn't stopped. Is it coaching or bullshit that the Patriots never seem to get called for holding to nullify big plays, Kraft must have photos of Goodell. Seems like its pre ordained that they're going to win it all again

The situation we find our team in is much more than a 1 yr event. If you have been following this team for a significant amount of time, you realize the ineptitude has been occurring since 2000 and to a lesser extent to the time JJ took over as coach. You can not look at the current season and understand the pain and frustration of the long suffering fan. If you really want to go back into history, the time with Tom Olivadotti as DC started the black clouds hovering over this organization. The years that his defensive incompetence ruined the prime years of Marino's career is a travestry in itself. Dumbstadt, Fist-Pumper, Shameron, Ireland, Speilman, and the rest have made life a bed of thorns for the long suffering fan. Now we are stuck with an owner that cares more about his college team than the team he owns, a holdover FO that is clearly out of their depth, and a coach that is driven more by his ego that making sound decisions for this team. So don't tell me to look at the league and compare ourselves to others. Frankly I do not give a damn about those other teams, I care about the Miami Dolphins. I expect more from an organization that was once the class of the league to settle for the product that they give us today.

I understand what you're saying but I don't live in the past. Last year we were one of a few teams in playoffs and everyone else was sitting at home. So far, based on the original post, we're right in the middle of things without a starting QB and I'm looking at the likes of the "mighty" teams like GB, Dallas, NY etc struggling and minus the former have all their marbles. It tells me that this coaching staff etc, at least through 2 seasons, so far, are doing something right. It doesn't mean they are perfect. But to me, it doesn't suggest that we're the laughing stock of the league as is frequently stated here either.

It's definitely sickening and our last game vs. Tampa was especially ridiculous. I'm still flabbergasted at the non-safety call.

I like your post because it really highlights the REAL issue that so many do not see because they are focused on just one team. The fact that Miami is so uncompetitive, boring to watch & going through decades of losing is not a issue confined to just a couple franchises. So its obvious the fix is not easily figured out internally at these organizations, In the NFL when you go down you STAY down ala the Washington Generals for DECADES.

My point? This is a problem at the highest level of the NFL itself. There is no way they should be happy with a few teams dominating the win column years on end and a bunch more playing sloppy and hurting the product. How do they fix it? I think first step is to care that you are losing fans, revenue & viewership of the poor performers because of it. Then they have to get serious about helping get the right formula to allow down franchises the upper hand in the draft, coaching pool & FA transactions. Ill even go as far as to say some trades should be voted down by the league that allow certain teams to unfairly stock up (NE has been masterful at these)

Want to get to the root of the problem? Look deeper...
It’s funny - I was thinking what if NE wins the next 2 SBs? It could easily happen. How will that reflect on the league? Something is very wrong indeed when the game has been made to be all about the QB so much so that only 5-6 of them have won a SB in the last 15 years. Rule change have tilted the balance too far - now the only way to win a championship is to have a great QB - and there aren’t enough to go around.

We are probably the worst 4-6 team in NFL history so I'm not sure how comparing us to other 4-6 teams is supposed to make this Dolphins team look like less of a joke? -97 point differential lol

Absolutely......Just to piggy back on what you have said, people have to realize that this situation didn't occur over night, bad drafting, crappy coaches and over spending have ruined a great franchise and brought it to it's knees. Where I disagree is with the JJ comment, you did say "to a lesser extent" so I know you are not putting as much blame on him, (at least that's how I interpreted it) I think JJ did a good job with this team given the mess that was left behind after we tried to buy our way to a SB. The Dolphins were in Cap hell when he took over, and he was still able to rebuild our defense and the offense in 3 years. Now, I would be the first to admit that he made mistakes especially in regards to his relationship with Marino, but over all he turned the team around through the Draft pretty quickly. As far as ownership, I think we have a great owner, not only does he spend whatever it takes to win, but we have a great new stadium paid for by him and more importantly he stays out of football related decisions, you can't ask for a better owner than that.

Some bad football being played, especially in the AFC, no question. It’s frustrating though that despite all the obstacles this team has had this year, you just lost at home to a team with a backup QB who hasnt won on the road in how long?

On top of that you commit 17 penalties and -4 on the turnover differential. I know things havent been easy but it’s frustrating to see performances like that. The team has some
consistent problems that havent been addressed over the years and I dont need to list them because most of us are aware of them.

Ill preface these comments by saying I dont want you take them wrong or harsh like some comments come off because I dont mean them that way...Just light banter with a different prospective

I dont see how any owner who is the head of a floundering franchise can be called "Great"...

If he owned a restaurant and the food was horrible...would he be the owner of a great restaurant?
If he owned a auto shop but it had the reputation for ruining engines instead of repairing them...great shop owner?

IMO to be great at anything that means you are the head of a successful endeavor with NO excuses for failure. I personally despise Bob Kraft but the guy is obviously a truly GREAT owner.
On paper Ross and Kraft are complete opposites...One consistently fields winners...the other consistently fields losers

Good post. It's sometimes hard to keep it in perspective, especially coming off a 10-6 season with high hopes.

I think part of it is how poorly Miami is playing. The 4-6 record could easily be 2-8 and the Dolphins haven't been competitive in a lot of their games. All that said, I think next year with a healthy Tannehill will be more telling. Hopefully, the team will makes good moves in the offseason and take a significant step up.

Your comments are fine dude we're discussing.
Kraft did one great thing, he hired Belichick no more no less....would you consider him a great owner for that? He got lucky......period. Belichick needed a job and Kraft saw an opportunity, he hired the best possible person at that time. In turn Brady was drafted another lucky pick and the rest is history. Let me come closer to home.......Joe Robbie hired Shula...but there are many that said he was a crappy owner and others that say he was great. Our owner tries to bring in the best possible people for the job at any expense, we wanted a young coach for years I remember reading it on this very board and now we have one.

Thanks...I just didnt want to come across wrong and sometimes reading type is easy to misconstrue
Ross is still unsuccessful so thereby he is not great at ownership...Unlucky? Possibly yes but not great in any sense of the word.

As a dolphins fan over 35 years, I am not contend with mediocrity.
