The biggest disappointment of this Dolphins season

Common assumptions which turned out wrong:

Gase would run a more balanced, run-heavy attack after Ajayi's breakout 2016 - Wrong
After a year in the system, Miami would come out strong offensively early in the year and early in games - Wrong
Devante Parker would break out as the teams alpha receiver - Wrong
A healthy Pouncey would directly lead to stability and improvement on the o-line - Wrong
Tunsil would seamlessly transfer back to left tackle and play at a Pro Bowl level - Wrong
The tight end position would be much improved with the Julius Thomas/Anthony Fasano combo - Wrong
Cutler knew the system and would quickly transition into the offense and produce as well as Tanny - Wrong
By paying Alonso, Branch, and Jones big bucks, they'd reward the Dolphins loyalty with stellar play - Wrong
Xavien Howard would flourish in year two - Wrong
The d-line would have QB's on the run all year - Wrong

The defensive tackle spot next to Suh would be a disaster - Wrong, its been passable
Nate Allen would have a bullseye on him until McDonald takes over - Wrong, they were better with him back there
Tankersley would redshirt this year - Wrong
The run defense would be the Achilles heel of the defense once again - Wrong at first, but slowly getting worse

Admittedly, a number of these issues could have been combined and blamed collectively on the Tannehill injury. But it's kind of Murphy's Law this year.

I can't pinpoint one thing...the team to me is so disappointing...they seem
unprepared
uninspired
undisciplined
unmotivated
the injuries happen to every team as well as bad calls from ref's...good TEAMS that are well coached overcome these things as weeks roll by....not this one...the MIA....the drug use...so strange to me at this level of play with so much on the line for you, your family and your team.....it's surreal to me...it's all so disappointing...I don't believe (given all that has happened) that Tannehill healthy would have made a big enough impact to combat what this team really is...sure we would have won more and scored more points...but that in and of itself would not have been enough....and may have covered up some of the aforementioned issues...maybe it is all a blessing in disguise....in the mean time we fans get hung out to dry waiting and believing and cheering for our team to be a contender while under the current this sh*t goes on and on and on..... and it sucks

OK ...sorry guys..venting frustrations...disappoinment

Great thread topic!

My major disappointment has been the offensive in general this year. With the injury to RT aside, this offense group has too much talent to be this bad. If we dissect it a bit further, it is the play of the QB position as well as the lack of any meaningful production from the TE position. Our tight end situation is a disaster. We are getting nothing out of Thomas and Fasano and Gray and the lack of production...along with no running game allows opponents to make us one dimensional and for them to scheme one dimensional.

On the QB issue, I see a tremendous difference in the team play when Cutler is at QB and when Moore is at QB. With Moore, there is a sense of urgency, hustle and enthusiasm that doesn't seem to be there when Cutler is playing. I can't really put my finger on it but I see it everytime Moore comes in a game. Perhaps it is the playcalling with Moore vs. Cutler....but it is a problem. I also see a lot of comments about Moore being trash and we need to get rid of Cutler and Moore and draft a QB early next year.....I disagree with both of those notions. In Moore, we have in my opinion one of the best backup QB's in the game. He can win, he can run the entire offense and he has proven this overtime. He is not as effective when opponents have a lot of time to prepare for him, but coming off the bench....the guy is money. In Tannehill, we have an above average QB who still has upside in my opinion. There is no guarantee he will reach his full potential....but it is there and having him back next year and Moore on the bench makes me not worry about the QB position. Offensively, we need to focus on Tight End, Offensive Line and Running back.

Our pass defense is my biggest disappointment as teams have been eating us alive, unfortunately that is tied to our Dline as opposing QBs have all day to throw the ball. I guess then the defense as a whole.

My answer to that would be the struggling offense that is ranked at the bottom of the categories and the defense is spending too much time on the field.

Among many other things I was disapointed that the FO did nothing to fix the o-line this past off season. Once they did that I knew we'd have problems. The lack of a pass rush has been horrible and has not help our young corners.
Kiko playing like crap
All the dumb contracts that we gave out to average players
and last but not least is the fact that Gase thinks Pouncey is really Dwight Stevenson and doesn't need to practice and that Cutler doesn't need to practice and that Thomas not doing anything is because the defense is dictating what you can do. Well Gase, think about that. The defense is dictating to YOU what you can run on offense. Normally when one thing is close then another thing is open so why can't you find it?

Well, Gase would have all of us believe that but here's this. He keeps saying that playing with a lead would lead to more sacks because you know that they will pass. Ok, how many times have we seen the other team on 3rd and 12 or 3rd and 15 only to see the QB have all day to pass for a first down?. Yes the defense being tired blah blah but how many times our defense gives our drives in the first half or to start the 3rd quarter? It's just an excuse
The Giants had a great defense in the 80's while their offense wouldn't do much but they still dominated
Same with the Ravens. Our defense is just bad regardless of the offense not helping much

My biggest disappointments:

1. Shameless referees who intentionally ruin games for whatever reason
2. Tannenbaum's continued existence on this mortal plane
3. Gase's decision making

Congratulations to Tannenbaum for making it off the #1 spot this year...

Good afternoon Bro. On your post what the heck is Coach Gase doing calling offensive plays when he should be managing this team. There are three aspects to the team Offense, Defense and Special Teams. If he doesn't get smart and stop calling plays, learn from his mistakes, and manage this team he will be an ex-head coach.

I agree. Right from the start he almost talks as if he's in charge of the offense instead of the whole team. I know he takes the offense being bad personally but he needs to delegate so that he has time to see what's going on with the whole team. I never see him on the sidelines talking to his defense like BB does up in NE. I see him talking to Cutler or Moore but that's it. He needs to let go there and take charge of the whole team

Great post brother! A good leader has great people around him, and he or she checks in on things to see how they are going. If need be he or she steps in when necessary. He needs to let go of the offense before it costs him dearly.

My biggest disappointment is Tunsil by a country mile, he just hasn't been good this year.

Tunsil for me as well. The guy was billed as the top blocker in his class.

The lack of pass rush isn't entirely unexpected imo. While I'd hoped Harris would have more than 1 sack, Wake is the only real threat with Suh always getting double teamed and time is catching up with him. I liked our additions but they're not major pass rushers.

Parker is probably #2, but there's at least a little hope his health and the QB play are there bigger culprits.

I'm very concerned about Tunsil, and if he turns out to be a bust, then the o-line will remain a major liability for another couple season.
