Auburn Pro Day recap

Apparently the Jets were all over Senquez Golson and, at the Auburn Pro Day, Belichick spent a huge amount of time with Sammie Coates.

Cris Carter on Amari Cooper at today's Bama pro day:

SportsCenter went live from the indoor field in the 8:00-hour with former NFL great Cris Carter.

The father of former Tide receiver Duron Carter gave his scouting report for Alabama's top prospect, Amari Cooper.

"He's dominant in the slot," Carter said on SportsCenter. "You can't play bump and run coverage because he's so quick with great acceleration off the ball. He has great football speed. When he's on the football field, he's just as fast as he is in shorts doing the 40 time.

"He typically always makes the first player miss. If you see him against SEC competition the last three years, he has destroyed the competition and most of the time, he has been the best player on the field. Lane Kiffin does a good job of moving him around, so he can retain a lot of information."

Cooper isn't likely to run the 40-yard dash again after posting a 4.42 at the NFL Combine last month in Indianapolis. His speed compared to West Virginia's Kevin White has been the subject of some debate since he ran a 4.35 at the combine, but Carter is looking more at the on-field quickness.

"So to think that he's not as fast as Kevin White, I would beg to differ because on the football field, when you put the pads on, he's as fast as anyone playing the position," Carter said. "He can run any route. He has route discipline ... if I was doing a text book of how you run this route, a post corner against a safety, it would be exactly like him."

Grand Valley State Pro Day
Representatives from three NFL teams were present at Grand Valley State's pro day on Monday.

A total of nine prospects -- eight from Grand Valley State and one from Ferris State -- worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

One of those prospects is a potential free-agent pickup for an NFL team following the 2015 NFL Draft.

Defensive lineman Isiah Dunning (6-foot-1 1/2, 289 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash just once, doing so in 5.08 seconds. He had a 29 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-2 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.74 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.89 seconds. He performed 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Wide receiver Charles Johnson was the last player drafted out of Grand Valley State (seventh round of 2013 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers). Current Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr is also out of Grand Valley State.

Tulsa Pro Day
Representatives from seven NFL teams were present on a cold and windy day at Tulsa's pro day Monday.

Three Tulsa players and three players from East Central (Okla.) worked out outdoors on FieldTurf in 9-10 mile-per-hour wind gusts.

Tulsa safety DeMarco Nelson (6-foot-0, 197 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds against the wind and 4.58 seconds with the wind. He had a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump, which was said to be a disappointment since Nelson had been measured jumping much higher leading up to the pro day. He had a 10-foot-2 broad jump. He timed at 4.34 seconds in the 20-yard short shuttle and 7.15 seconds in the three-cone drill. Nelson performed 11 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Nelson was a four-year starter for the Golden Hurricane and could be a free-agent possibility for some NFL team following the 2015 NFL Draft.

East Central cornerback Qumain Black (5-10 5/8, 190) ran the 40 in 4.78 seconds against the wind and 4.58 seconds with the wind. He had a 35-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-10 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.39 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.04 seconds. He performed 11 strength lifts. Black probably played better during the 2013 season than he did in 2014 (he was a first-team All-Great American Conference selection in 2013, but honorable mention all-GAC in 2014).

UAB Pro Day
Representatives from 22 NFL teams, including two special teams coaches, were present for UAB's pro day Tuesday.

The player the NFL personnel were on hand to see in action was wide receiver J.J. Nelson, who posted the fastest 40-yard dash time (4.28 seconds) at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Nelson -- who measured 5-foot-10 and 156 pounds at the combine -- looked really good catching the ball and fielding punts at UAB's pro day.

Arizona Pro Day
Representatives from 12 NFL teams were present for Arizona's pro day on Tuesday. The event was held outdoors on FieldTurf.

A total of 12 Wildcats players worked out, but one in particular stood out.

Wide receiver Austin Hill (6-foot-2 1/4, 214 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 and 4.57 seconds. He had a 36 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-9 broad jump. He posted times of 4.03 seconds in the 20-yard short shuttle and 6.65 seconds in the three-cone drill. He also performed 17 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Hill had a very good positional workout and it appears that he has regained the form from his 2012 season, when he was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award (given to college football's top receiver) and an All-Pac-12 second-team selection after posting 1,364 yards receiving (second in Pac-12). But, he missed the 2013 season with an ACL injury and his production dipped considerably in 2014 (635 yards and four touchdowns).

Hill is a big guy who can body-up defenders and make catches. If he checks out all right medically, Hill could be an early third-day selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez was described by NFL personnel at the pro day as being phenomenal, and very helpful in getting information on the team's top prospects.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-of-arizona-gives-nfl-draft-stock-a-big-boost

I've been surprised at how quiet things have been for Austin Hill. He could be a late round sleeper.

UCLA Pro Day
Representatives from 28 NFL teams -- including defensive line and linebackers coaches from the Seattle Seahawks -- were present at UCLA's pro day on Tuesday, when seven players worked out outdoors on FieldTurf.

Quarterback Brett Hundley (6-foot-3 1/8, 227 pounds) did a scripted workout run by UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. Hundley has a good arm and was very accurate. Hundley is athletic; he was a top performer among quarterbacks in each drill he participated in at the NFL Scouting Combine, including a record time in the 20-yard shuttle for a quarterback at the combine. His impressive workout at the pro day helped his draft status, and the quarterback has a good chance to be a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Hundley wasn't the only Bruins player to give his draft stock a solid boost at the pro day.

Defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa (6-3 1/4, 262) now looks like he could get drafted in the picks Nos. 25-40 range (late first round or early second). Odighizuwa worked out for 20-plus minutes for the Seahawks' defensive line coach. Then, he went to go work out with the linebackers. Odighizuwa is a very good athlete -- he was a top performer among defensive linemen at the NFL Scouting Combine in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle and 60-yard shuttle, and the top performer among defensive linemen in the vertical jump and broad jump.

Odighizuwa has good power, and is probably better going forward than dropping into space (as an outside linebacker). So, he will be considered a hand-in-the-ground pass rusher.

Inside linebacker Eric Kendricks (6-0 1/8, 235) went through some drills despite a nagging hamstring that flared up at the combine. Kendricks did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.17 seconds and the three-cone in 7.16 seconds. He also performed 22 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He didn't run the 60-yard long shuttle, but UCLA coach Jim Mora indicated that if a team is worried about drafting Kendricks because he didn't run the long shuttle then they'll miss out on a really good player.

Cornerback Anthony Jefferson (6-0 7/8, 195) ran the 40 in 4.64 and 4.62 seconds. He had a 20-yard short shuttle time of 4.5 seconds and a three-cone time of 7.01 seconds. Jefferson demonstrated that he's a really smooth athlete in the positional drills.

Defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy (6-4 3/4, 337) stood on his numbers from the combine and only did positional drills.

Running back Jordan James (5-8 1/2, 195) ran the 40 in 4.42 and 4.44 seconds. He had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-11 broad jump. He did the three-cone in 7.19 seconds and the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.45 seconds. He performed 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. James was a backup running back for the Bruins (13 games, but one start), but he has very good speed and explosion. That could intrigue an NFL team enough to bring him into camp as a rookie free agent.

Arizona Pro Day
Austin Hill measured 6021, 214 pounds and timed his 40s in 4.54 and 4.59 seconds. Other numbers included a short shuttle of 4.17 seconds, the 3-cone drill in 6.72 seconds and a 60-yard shuttle in 11.51 seconds. All the reviews of Hill's pass-catching workout were positive as teams were impressed with his quickness and body positioning exiting breaks.

Why was Hill left out of the combine? I'm told he was graded poorly after the initial four games of the 2014 campaign, and though he played better later in the year, was never able to rebound enough to get an invitation. Regardless, at full health, Hill is a next-level prospect.

Mickey Baucus put on a clinic in position drills. He looked athletic and easily moved around the field. He'll likely slip into the late rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft.

UCLA Pro Day
Quarterback Brett Hundley was the primary focus of today's workout, and by all accounts, the signal-caller threw much better than he did at the combine. He completed 57-of-60 passes, throwing the ball to receivers which included Greg Salas (New York Jets)and Jeremy Horne (Calgary Stampeders). The ball flew off Hundley's hand, and he threw with great accuracy all day.

Running back Jordon James also looked good. His vertical jump, which is being incorrectly reported as 34 1/2-inches, was actually 44 1/2-inches, (only makes sense as his broad jump came in at 10-11). James' 40 times clocked in the low 4.4-second range, though the Cincinnati Bengals had him with a time of 4.37 seconds.

Weeks ago, I posted on tackle Malcolm Bunche and how he looked much better than other highly rated Pac-12 offensive lineman during pre-draft training. Today, Bunche measured 6-foot-6, 320 pounds and put up 32 reps on the bench press and timed 5.15 seconds in the 40. Various sources told me he looked terrific in position drills, with one attendee comparing Bunch to 10-year NFL veteran Tony Pashos. Afterward, Bunche spent 90 minutes with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is scheduled to workout with the Cincinnati Bengals in the coming weeks. Keep him in mind for the later rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft.

One prospect who has likely fallen out of the late rounds, and the 2015 NFL Draft altogether, is Ellis McCarthy. The junior defensive lineman chose to sit on his combine numbers and did only position drills. Offensive line position drills is as I'm told scouts did not want to work him out on the defensive line. Despite solid numbers at the combine, I'm told McCarthy did not look athletic, and one source at the pro-day used the word "brutal" to sum up his day.
Malcolm Bunche was a Cane who transferred to UCLA. Want a late round swing tackle that could eventually start...he just might be your man.

Louisville Pro Day
One player who won't be participating in the Louisville pro day is running back Michael Dyer.

Coach Bobby Petrino is forbidding the team's second-leading rusher from participating in the workout after Dyer was ruled academically ineligible for the Belk Bowl against Georgia. This has left a bad taste with a lot of people, who feel Petrino is turning his back on the ball-carrier. Instead of participating at Louisville's pro day, Dyer will hold his own workout afterward at duPont Manual High School, a mile from the Cardinals' Stadium.

Receiver DeVante Parker will be in attendance to participate in position drills and root on his teammates. Parker, who's been a very busy man, will stand on his combine numbers. The big receiver has already worked out for the Pittsburgh Steelers and has official visits scheduled with the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens.

The Cleveland Browns, who hold the 12th pick of Round 1 (as well as the 19th), have already worked out Parker and are also bringing him to for an official visit.

Early results from the Louisville pro day have not been kind to safety Gerod Holliman. Though not official, I'm told his 40s have both been over 4.6 seconds, and several teams timed him at 4.65 on his second attempt. I'm told his vertical jump was not very good either.

Teammate Johnny Sample, who ran a hand timed 4.48 at the Combine, completed 17 reps on the bench. Sample did not lift in Indianapolis.

Rutgers Pro Day
As of posting, position drills have just started, but there were some solid testing marks.

Fullback Michael Burton completed 30 reps on the bench, an improvement of five from the 25 he did at the Combine.

Offensive lineman Kaleb Johnson completed 34 reps on the bench, timed as fast as 5.07 in the 40 and posted a broad jump of 8-10.

Despite not being 100 percent, tight end Tyler Kroft posted avertical jump of 34 inches, and a broad jump of 10-feet even.

Oklahoma Pro Day
Receiver Dorial Green-Beckham sat on his 40 time from the Combine after weighing in at 236 pounds, one less than the Combine. He did post a 10-foot broad jump (9-11 Combine) and 33-inch vertical (33.5 Combine).

Defensive back Julian Wilson improved his 40 time from Indianapolis, timing 4.50 (4.53 Combine), after measuring 6-2 and 201 pounds.

Offensive tackle Tyrus Thompson, who did not run at the Combine due to a foot injury, timed 5.40.

As reported earlier, Thompson and teammate Daryl Williams met with the Minnesota Vikings yesterday. I've also been informed both players met with the Tennessee Titans and St Louis Rams.

Austin Hill: very nice that he was getting good words in the positional drills. he struggled coming back after the ACL after missing so much time... he uses his body well and is a solid WR that has upside and works to improve, uses his body well. he is a good look for later rounds... dont know if he really is going to move up into the 3rd round though.

Eric Kendricks: shouldnt be a worry to draft in any way!!! and 22 reps was better correct???

DGB and DeVante PArker: how were they in positional drills??? hands???

Malcolm Bunche looks interesting.... i need to see more on him.

Tyrus Thompson going more Bleh for me

There are a few Vines floating around out there of Louisville's pro day. I'll post them when I get home from work.

Kendricks did 19 reps at the combine. Haven't heard anything on positional drills for DGB and Parker.

Malcolm Bunche played and started at both tackle positions at Miami...good feet, good movement skills. Can also play Guard...think he may have started at LG his freshman year a few games.

So Parker didn't do the 3-cone? Don't like that move for a guy who looks shaky in and out of his breaks. Or, worse, I like the move a lot if he knew he was going to put up a 7.33 like Strong. That's why some of these guys run faster than expected (speaking of Strong especially here). The 3-cone and 20-yard shuttle translate much better to play speed, because they measure speed when changing directions, and if someone is covering you, you're changing directions.

That's also why Strong struggles to separate.

Given the questions I had with Parker, I'd be very hesitant to draft him at 14. I'd rather gamble on DGB being a good (enough) person than Parker maybe having the feet to separate at the next level. At 6'5, 239, DGB put up a 6.89 3-cone, and that's why people thought he'd run faster (in a straight line) than he did.

Alabama Pro Day
Representatives from all 32 NFL teams, including a large contingent of coaches for the New Orleans Saints, were present at Alabama's pro day on Wednesday.

A total of 16 players worked out indoors on FieldTurf at an extremely well-organized pro day event.

Wide receiver Amari Cooper (6-foot-1 1/2, 209 pounds) had a 34-inch vertical jump and stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, where he had the top time among wide receivers in the 20-yard shuttle and was a top performer among receivers in the three-cone drill. Cooper had a great positional workout. He caught the ball really well, displaying excellent hands. Cooper had just one drop, but it came on a low ball. Cooper is going to be a top-five type pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Strong safety Landon Collins (6-0 1/2, 221) performed 16 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, and then stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine, where he was a top performer in his position group in the 40-yard dash. Collins' pro-day workout was conducted by Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Mark Carrier. Collins had a very good workout. He is very similar to Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, the Green Bay Packers' first-round choice in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Running back T.J. Yeldon (6-1 1/2, 220) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 and 4.53 seconds. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine. There were four running backs coaches at Alabama's pro day working out Yeldon, who caught the ball really well coming out of the backfield.

Inside linebacker Trey DePriest (6-0 3/4, 258) ran the 40 in 4.92 and 4.93 seconds. He was another 'Bama guy with a good pro-day workout.

Outside linebacker Xzavier Dickson (6-3 1/4, 263) ran the 40 in 4.83 and 4.77 seconds. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine. Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards put Dickson through his workout, which went well.

Fullback Jalston Fowler (5-11 1/8, 251) ran the 40 in 4.83 and 4.85 seconds, standing on the rest of his numbers from the combine. Fowler finished up his workout with a great one-handed catch. He's a well-liked player, who the coaches brag on.

Offensive guard Arie Kouandjio (6-4 7/8, 301) ran the 40 in 5.47 and 5.46 seconds. He had a 25-inch vertical jump and 8-foot-4 broad jump. An offensive line coach from the Bengals put Kouandjio through his positional workout.

Defensive back Nick Perry (6-0 3/4, 201) ran the 40 in 4.62 and 4.65 seconds. He really looked good in the workout, and could go as early as the sixth or seventh round of the draft, or be a priority free-agent pickup for a team following the draft.

Eastern Washington Pro Day
Representatives from 10 NFL teams were present at Eastern Washington's pro day on Wednesday, when six players worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

Free safety Tevin McDonald -- who was at the NFL Scouting Combine last month -- was not at the pro day and will work out instead at Fresno State's pro day on Thursday.

One potential free-agent pickup following the 2015 NFL Draft was noteworthy.

Offensive tackle Jake Rodgers (6-foot-5 3/4, 315 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.24 seconds on both attempts. He had a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-10 broad jump. He did the three-cone drill in 8.04 seconds and the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.81 seconds. He performed 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Rodgers has 33-inch arms.

Some tidbits from Louisville's pro day:

- All 32 teams (around 80 people) were represented and 3 coaches were in attendance: Bill Bilicheck, Marvin Lewis, and Mike Tomlin
- The Steelers were there in full force as along with Tomlin, 4 or 5 others from the organization were there with him
- The Steelers group paid close attention whenever Lorenzo Mauldin did drills
- The Steelers group had a big dinner the night before with Parker, Holliman, Gaines, and Mauldin
- Vikings paid close attention to DeVante Parker and met with him afterwards
- The Jests were watching everything that Gerod Holliman did very closely
- Bill Bilicheck paid close attention to long-snapper Grant Donovan (who is one of the best in the country)
- Scouts seemed intriqued with WR Eli Rodgers (slot style reciever, was not invited to combine)
- Former U of L QB Brian Brohm threw passes (at the request of Bobby Petrino) to Parker and the other recievers
- RB Dominique Brown ran a 4.65 dash

USC Pro Day
LOS ANGELES -- As the 2015 NFL Draft draws closer, it still appears likely that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are zeroing in on taking quarterback Jameis Winston with the No. 1 overall pick.

If Wednesday's jam-packed USC pro day was any indication, we could be seeing a consensus forming on who will be drafted with the second overall pick, too.

The Tennessee Titans sent a near armada to the Trojans' track stadium on Wednesday. At least three Titans scouts were in attendance, and the team's defensive line coach, Giff Smith, put Leonard Williams through the paces during drills.

The team has long been linked to Williams with the No. 2 overall pick and it clearly is doing its homework on the player many analysts consider to be the most talented in the draft. In addition to seeing him up close while he went through a full battery of on-field drills -- Williams opted to stand on his testing numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine -- Titans evaluators were able to interview USC assistant coaches and other people connected with the program during their time in Los Angeles to get a better sense of what Williams is like off the field.

Williams made his case for why he should be the No. 1 overall pick during a media session after the workout Wednesday, but he told CFB 24/7 that the Titans are the only team that has scheduled a private workout with him thus far. Williams also said Tennessee has shown much more interest in him than the Buccaneers and Jaguars.

Titans brass will surely evaluate both Winston and quarterback Marcus Mariota, who will participate in Oregon's pro day on Thursday, given the team's needs at the position. Of course, Williams said any team that passes on him will surely regret its decision down the road.

"If they pick a quarterback over me, they better know I'll take him down later," Williams said with a hearty laugh.

Given his rare talent, Williams might not have been joking.

Williams wasn't the only Trojan in action at USC's pro day, though. Here are some notes on the other prospects that took part in the event Wednesday.

» Wideout Nelson Agholor, who will likely be the second USC player off the board in this year's draft, opted to stand on his 40-yard dash time from the combine (4.42) but went through the shuttle, agility and receiver drills after he was unable to go through the full slate at the combine due to a hand injury. He looked quick and ran crisp routes but did have a handful of drops. He told reporters after the workout that the misses he had Wednesday will be something he'll go back and work on as he tries to develop into a complete NFL receiver.

» Cornerback Josh Shaw spoke to the media at USC for the first time since he was suspended by the team in August after admitting to fabricating a story about rescuing his nephew from drowning in a pool. He noted Wednesday that NFL teams did not really ask about the incident during the combine because he was able to address it with all 32 clubs at the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl. His first private workout is on Monday with the Houston Texans.

» Tailback Javorius "Buck" Allen opted to stand on his combine numbers, but did participate in position-specific drills. He was asked by a number of scouts to run extra routes after the day's script was over, something he was happy to do. He noted that his first private workout will be on Friday with the Carolina Panthers.

» Wide receiver George Farmer surprised by declaring for the draft as an underclassman and he was not invited to the combine. Though he expressed disappointment about not receiving an invite to the combine, he impressed Wednesday by running an electronically timed 4.35 in the 40-yard dash. Farmer indicated he has no regrets about deciding to forgo his senior season at USC.

» Tight end Randall Telfer told scouts he suffered a Lisfranc injury to his left foot and was limited to watching pro day from his scooter on the track next to the field. It appears the pass-catcher will likely be looking to make a team as an undrafted free agent this year.

» Linebacker Hayes Pullard ran a 4.74 in the 40 and looked quite spry during his workout.
