Sounds like you need to do more watching and less listening to stories. Alabama only threw 6 passes in the entire 2nd half of the game against Ole Miss. Only 1 pass in the entire 4th quarter. And those were by the backup quarterback Tua, and on 3rd and medium situations. The coaches still have to develope him.

Not talking about this year. And the Texas game was textbook running up the score. But I'll refrain from arguing the point I've already made its going nowhere

Texas game was not textbook running up the score, and I don't know what Ole Miss game you're talking about. You obviously don't either.

I am still not comfortable talking about Miami in the realms of what Bama has accomplished. I know for sure this program is back but lets go out and handle our business against Va and a uncomfortable road game at Pitt before dealing with Clemson in 15 days.

i do think Bama is gonna have hell @ Auburn if the two teams I saw last weekend play each other. I have Auburn winning that game.

I am thinking Wisconsin will drop a game, either this week vs. Michigan or in the conference championship game. That will knock them out.

I think Oklahoma wins out and earns a spot.

    Question becomes:

    1. Oklahoma
    2. Clemson
    3. Auburn/Georgia winner

    Who they putting at 4?

1 loss Bama team that did not make the conference championship game but only loss came on the road vs. potential #3 Auburn or a 1 loss Canes team that lost to the #2 team in the country in the conference championship game.

Or maybe Wisconsin wins out and we get Canes/Bama at the Rock lol

That would be fun (at the game and on here lol).

I think this season Clemson and Miami are the 2 best teams. The ACC championship might as well be the national championship. If we play Wisconsin look for another blowout

As a long time Hurricanes fan since *before* their first National Championship, I don't care where they are ranked right now, it will play itself out.

They still have Virginia, a freezing *** Pitt and a pretty damned good Clemson club to go through.

One game, one play at a time.

There may be 3 SEC teams in if GA and Auburn play a close game . Miss St might have made it as well but they lost this week.

The only way that's acceptable to me is if Wisconsin loses. They can take Wisconsin's spot. But not the ACC champ

Wrong. Miami has only beat Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

Alabama has beaten LSU, Mississippi St. and Fresno St....who is in the top 25 now. You definitely don't want to compare losses, and you definitely don't want to compare game control.

Everybody is entitled to their own biased opinions, but not entitled to their own facts.

If we beat Clemson we would have beaten #3 and #1 (when we played them)

None of this matters if we lose that game.

Clemson is going to beat the breath outta the stiffbreezes. Most of you already know it even though you would never post it here.

Anyway, I'd be curious to see what you guys top 10 would look like. No matter what the committee or AP or any other polls looks like, all I hear is Bama homers and SEC bias. So what would your top 10 look like...

Good. Canes suck. Alabama rocks. All is clear.

    I have no top 10. I don't worry about 3-loss teams some 2-loss teams.

    1) Clemson
    2) Oklahoma
    3) Wisconsin
    4) Auburn
    5) Georgia
    6) Alabama
    7) Miami
    8) Ohio State

The final top 4 should be: winner of Clemson/Miami; winner of Wisconsin/Ohio State; winner of Georgia/Auburn and Oklahoma (assuming they beat TCU). Should TCU upset Oklahoma that leaves the door open for the loser of Clemson/Miami; loser of Georgia/Auburn; and maybe Wisconsin if they lost to Ohio State.

Well we're going to disagree on a few things, get to that later.

But first, how do you figure Georgia's loss at Auburn is better than Alabama's loss at Auburn when Georgia lost by twice the difference? Secondly, how much weight do you put on losses?

No we don't. You asked for an opinion and that's mine.

As I told you before I weight the participation in a Championship game high. Alabama had the chance and they screwed the pooch. It sucks but that is reality.
Usually 1 loss early in the season can be compensated for but at a late stage like that? It has always been that way.
Miami's luck is that they play in a Championship game and have a chance to somewhat make up for that loss.

The purpose was to determine how some of you view the entirety of the process, and why you constantly yell out bias and fail to understand what the job of the committee is in the first place.

Basically you just want a system where all conference champions get in the playoff. Hell, you don't need a committee for that.

All you want is a system that states conference champions get in the playoff. Which runs directly opposed to what the committee's job is. The job of the committee is to get the 4 best teams in college football into a 4 team playoff.

You're placing way too much emphasis on "participation" in a conference championship game. Georgia has done nothing to EARN a spot in a conference championship game over Alabama other than being in the weaker division. They'd still be representing the East with 3 losses for ****'s sake. Furthermore in common opponents Alabama was the better team anyway.

The committee's job is certainly to weigh conference championships properly, but not at the expense of common sense. The human element must be a factor, otherwise you can just use computers like the BCS. Nobody liked that remember? It said LSU and Alabama were the 2 best teams in the country and we got a rematch in 2011.

The reason some people see bias where there is no bias is because they're focusing on the wrong things, and not focusing enough on what they should be focusing on.

The committee has already set the precedent for a 1 loss non conference champion to get in the playoff last year when they put Ohio St. in over 2 loss Penn St....who was conference champion and beat Ohio St. head to head. And the last two teams they let in the playoff from the BIG-10 both got shutout. They didn't even score. Neither of em.

All I'm saying is the committee isn't necessarily going to view it like you view it. Nor should they. They're most likely going to have Alabama at #5.

The winner of Auburn/Georgia is in. The loser is out.

The winner of Clemson/Miami is in. The loser is left out even over a 1 loss Alabama, because whichever one it ends up being is going to have 2 losses with one of them being a bad loss.

Wisconsin is in if they beat Ohio St. If Ohio St. wins, both are out. They're not putting a 2 loss Ohio St. in over a 1 loss Alabama.

Here's why...Ohio St. got clobbered by 31 against Iowa, and clobbered at home by Oklahoma. No team that loses by 31 points to anybody anywhere deserves to be in a playoff. Period. Certainly not from a conference that's been shutout in the playoff 2 years in a row. Take your conference championship to the Rose Bowl. Bye.

Oklahoma is in if they beat TCU. If TCU wins, both are out. Just like the BIG-10.

The PAC-12 has been out. Take your 2 loss conference champion USC or 3 loss conference champion Stanford and take it to the Rose Bowl. We told you bye a month ago.

Bottom line is, if Oklahoma or Wisconsin lose, Alabama is sitting there at #5 with 1 loss and the best resume left, and they're probably in the playoff at #4.

Two SEC teams would get in. Not because of bias, but because their job is to get the 4 best and most deserving teams in the playoff.

Let's not have that discussion again and especially not here. You are the old fashion guy who loves the tradition of polls by humans. I realize that college football has developed into major business with millions of dollars at stake. You cannot make important football decisions by some humans with so much on the line. With all these cup cakes on teams schedules how can you tell that teams are really the best?
Just when we started the conversation with the first playoff poll coming out and I was saying that ND has no business being in the top 4. What was I told (paraphrased)? They are the experts and watch every game and they have it right. Guess not, ND is nowhere to be found and come Tuesday only one team will be left from the original 4. And Clemson is only left because outside NC State every team they played since Nov 1 is crap.

The only way to determine a true National Championship is on the field. If you are unbeaten and you lose to a 3-loss Conference winner - guess what? You are not good enough. If you have a bunch of cup cakes scheduled to get to unbeaten you don't deserve it just by the merits of being "undefeated" while another team went through a tough conference incl championship game.

Alabama has no resume this year. It is only in the mind of biased observers.

But I am not going into that discussion again. I love you and your draft wisdom but you are too ingrained in tradition and when it comes to polls you show an extreme bias that it makes no sense to discuss this any further. Human polls have outlived its usefulness. But the good news for you is that it will remain that way.

I do agree with Slimm that if Wisconsin or Oklahoma fall that means Alabama is in. A 1 Loss Bama beats out a 2 loss ACC loser

CFP committee would be violating own policy if it picks Alabama over one-loss UM

    http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article186580503.html

That's Barry's take although when you have human emotion involved there's no telling what can happen.

I think it's best just to see what happens. We win and it's a conversation. We lose and it's just meaningless banter .

Personally I'd like to see Bama and the Canes both get in and settle it on the field.

I'm not in any way married to human polls. As long as we get the 2 best and most deserving teams playing each other for the national title, I don't particularly care how we got there. As long as we don't diminish the regular season and make it meaningless in the process. Where you and I differ is that I know there's no way we can get there using what you propose.

These big regular season matchups ARE playoff games. Furthermore, you and I do agree on the cupcakes, and so does Saban. I don't think any Power 5 teams competing for the big prize should be playing anything other than Power 5 competition.

Keep in mind what Mike Slive proposed many years ago that the BIG-10 commissioner wouldn't sign off on. Then did a complete 180 after the LSU/Bama rematch in 2011.

There's literally a 0% chance that the committee would choose a 1 loss Alabama over a 1 loss Miami team that are conference champions. None whatsoever.

He wasted a lot of time even writing that.

I was pretty much right on except, of course, for the screw job setup putting Alabama at 5.

    Playoff rankings:
    1) Clemson
    2) Oklahoma
    3) Wisconsin
    4) Auburn
    5) Alabama
    6) Georgia
    7) Miami
    8) Ohio State

I already told you the committee wasn't going to view it like you do. Neither does anybody else in the world of college football.

But keep on being hardheaded. At this point anything that irks you about the committee is dead on.

I admire your persistence but I think I made it clear before that I don't engage with you in this useless chitter-chatter.
You have a bias. And we both know that the Playoff Committee will do everything to put Alabama into the playoffs. They are humans after all. Humans are imperfect and judgement is often clouded by emotions and personal preferences. It is a flawed system.
So let's end this discussion right here:
    - You love the system. I don't.
    - Alabama will be in the playoffs - somehow.
    - You think it is fair. I don't.

I wouldn't say I admire your persistence but I'm just not going to let you keep doing this without calling out your nonsense.

You put Alabama in the wrong place. Because you're biased. Not me. Not the committee.

Nobody unbiased would rank Georgia above Alabama. Period.

But you're right, you'll never get it. Because you don't want to.

I want the committee to make the right decision whether it works for Alabama or against Alabama. You can't say that.

Like I said before you really should stick to talent evaluation. You are good at that. But when it come to polls and playoff committee you are biased and have as much of an understanding as I do. I remember just a few weeks ago when the first CFB Playoff poll came out and I said ND did not belong in the top 4. What was your argument again? Oh yes. They know. They got it right. They are the experts and so are you and I am not. They sure got that right. :laugh

Alabama's signature win this year is #17 LSU and their accomplishment is no Championship game. :roflmao
Technically I and the committee should have put Alabama behind Miami but I didn't do it because I am aware of the bias towards Alabama and I was proven right because the 'poll masters' did exactly what I expected them to do. The only reason they put Alabama at 5 is to give them any hope or any chance or any reason and excuse to move them into the top 4. And you know it. Alabama should have absolutely no reason to be sniffing the top 4 or be near it. If Ohio State beats Wisconsin they should jump Alabama. If the Canes win they should jump Alabama. If Georgia wins they should jump Alabama. If TCU wins they should jump Alabama. But we all know that they will find a way to sneak Alabama in somehow. If Miami would be in Alabama's position I would feel the same way.

I have one single bias: human polls
In an environment where Universities (especially public) use College football as a revenue generating entity to the tune of millions of dollars it is absurd to leave any playoff participation to the speculation of a group of people. I have looked hard and deep and I cannot find one single sport which uses solely human polls (with or without the help of computers) as a way to determine who is allowed to play for a Championship - here or abroad. Human polls are outdated, a dinosaur and a cash cow (looking at those Playoff Selection shows on ESPN).

Alabama is favored to win the Playoff- despite being ranked #5.
If you were to poll 100 people with above average knowledge of CF - which is best team in country- I would feel comfortable 70% would say Alabama.

Alabama should get in if Wisconsin or Oklahoma fall. That's how I see it p4e. They are still a good team with flaws but every team has flaws. There is no clear dominant team. The ACC winner will be in period if it's Miami or Clemson. The sec winner as well. But I'm surprised they put Auburn #2 overall. Imo auburn has been impressive but they still have 2 losses. I'd put them #4

I don't see a ton of flaws on a healthy Bama team. They're loaded ... as always. They've just been hit with the injury bug like the gators did a few years back. I see Wisconsin losing and them sneaking in.

If they get healthy (haven't followed injuries in depth) by the time playoffs come around, they're overwhelming favorites if you ask me.

Was a weird college football season. Before it started I posted that it had the makings to be something special. Lots of good teams out there with solid QBs. Didn't quite work out like that due to injuries and various other factors. FSU and Louisville were the big disappointments for me. They had a chance to make the ACC a powerhouse this season. Louisville didn't have the D and FSU obviously lost Francois. Even still, FSU has to be the most talented team I've ever seen on paper play so erratically. I know James was hurt last year but I've seen him get beat like a drum a bunch. Same goes for the rest of the defense. I've seen flashes ... followed by a huge play given up easily. Coaching has not been an asset. UM & Wisconsin have been big surprises for me. Odd year. As a gator fan, I'm glad it's almost over.

Correct move to put Alabama in. You can't ignore JT Barrett's incompetence in the two losses to Oklahoma and especially Iowa. This is the reason there is no legitimate argument in expanding the field from 4 teams to 8. Ohio State had atrocious losses but that was a rarity in terms of teams seriously contending for the final four. If you are looking at 8 teams every season then you'll always have teams with that type of resume sneaking in, like USC with the massacre defeat at Notre Dame.

As I posted in the Canes thread last night, there is no reputable oddsmaker or talent evaluator in the world who wouldn't have Alabama among the top 4 teams. If you told me prior to the season that Alabama would lose only once I would never believe they could be excluded. It was only the bunched injuries and timing of the defeat that placed them in jeopardy.

I fare well because last week I took 14/1 on Alabama winning the national title. It is extreme value and I wouldn't have regretted the bet even if Wisconsin had won and knocked Alabama out, or if Ohio State had gotten the nod above Alabama. Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that Alabama remained the favorite for the championship despite the loss to Auburn. That may be true if you look at generic online listings but it was hardly true from sportsbook to sportsbook. Some scared joints kept Alabama low in the 4/1 or 5/1 range but others moved Alabama into double digits. I saw 12/1 and 13/1 and then a friend of mine found 14/1 so we played.

This is also a benefit to the Canes because Alabama would have physically destroyed and further exposed Miami in the Orange Bowl.

I imagine that this was a much easier decision than Twitter would have you believe.
