I know we just resigned Vernon Carey to a huge contract, but I still feel like we need one more offensive tackle on the team. I have two reasons for this:

#1. We have no back-up offensive tackles. If Carey or Long go down, wow, are we screwed.

#2. We could really use another offensive tackle for our short-yardage jumbo formations.

All that being said, I would love to see Jamon Meredith drafted by Miami somehow. He has the size, athleticism, and production to project as a solid OT in the NFL. He had a great combine work-out. And I believe he has some experience at guard as well.

I know it may not make the most sense as far as needs go, but what happens if Jamon Meredith is the best-rated player on Miami's draftboard during one their selections? Do they take him or take best player that fills a greater need than offensive tackle?

absolutely i am. i thought he looked great at the combine. showed great feet and looked like a specimen. if he checks out off field i'd have no problem going after him at #56. among others

i thought he was a pure right tackle at the next level but i thought he showed left tackle feet and natural knee bend. showed good pop in drills also and benched 30 reps.

i like him a lot.

I would have no problems spending a second round pick on him, especially if it were pick 56. Obviously he probably wouldn't be starting with Carey resigned, but you can never have enough good backup linemen. If he has experience at guard, it would be an even better pick. You're generally supposed to get immediate starters with second round picks, but considering our current depth at tackle, a depth upgrade is a major need.

He does and he did well there too.

I also remember hearing somewhere that our new O-Line coach is the one that recruited Jamon Meredith to South Carolina, so there is a history and a relationship there.

Meredith would be a REAL good pick . . . unfortuantely . . . u may have to draft him in round 1 with the solid combine he put up . . . he may not be there at 44.

Personally, I don't think he is worth giving up a player like Delmas or Barwin or maybe even Sintim . . . if he did fall to us in round 2 . . . u are talking about a guy who would be a backup tackle . . . and compete with Satele (assuming we sign Jason Brown to be Center), Donald Thomas, Justin Smiley and Shawn Murphy for 2 guard spots.

I still think we could trade Satele, tho I think he would be a fantastic LG for us. I am totally against drafting a OL until round 7 . . . where we take a solid backup OT.
