Teams in the NFL that lose there starting QB don't win! What do we expect from the Dolphins? Make no mistake Jay Cutler is a number 2 QB and he plays like it. Look at Green Bay, Indy, Houston, etc. all losing without the starting QB, Few teams have ever won with the backup on a consistent basis. I'm not sure the Patriots could win this year with Hoyer as their back-up. Cutler doesn't give confidence to anyone including the defense!

Minnesota isn't using that excuse. Backup Case Keenum is 5-2 since Bradford went down and Vikings have one of the best records in the league.

Just another excuse.....

You can simply expand that to indicate that teams with an average QB would be expected to perform in the average range, due to the influence of the QB position on the NFL game.

Whether the QB is a backup is immaterial.

Minnesota has the best defense in the league, we dont. It's not just an excuse

Keenum in 8 games: 170 for 262, 64.9%, 1,914 yards, 11 TDs and 5 INTs, sacked 5 times.
Cutler in 8 games: 169 for 259, 65.3%, 1,519 yards, 12 TDs and 6 INTs, sacked 13 times.

Why is one of them 7-2 and the other 4-5?

Must be nice having an elite defense.

Correct. A D that has given up 20+ pts once this year and, in the last 5, about 15ppg. It also helps when Min is ahead almost the entire 2H in the last 4 games. There ARE some good backups, but very few and all who are successful have a good team around them. There's a reason why backups are seldom signed to a team with average or above QBs, and not often to teams with a QB in the 3rd quartile.

Yep. And I have nothing against Case Keenum, but you put him in Miami with an inconsistent-to-bad defense + no running game, and the results wouldn't be pretty.

Having a great defense can mask a lot of things, even at the QB position, just look at Jacksonville. But most backup QBs will struggle unless they're in a situation like Minnesota.

We are using our backup QB. But that doesn’t excuse our Oline. That doesn’t excuse the big plays given up in defense. That doesn’t excuse our lack of pass rush. That doesn’t excuse Kiko’s crap TE coverage. That doesn’t excuse the poor play calling. And it doesn’t excuse the lack of leadership.

This team has issues from top to bottom, and it won’t be fixed in one off season

Cutler isn't even a no 2. He's done. As in No "should be retired". He blows.

haha. joke. tell that to tom brady.

I think you all have it wrong. Maybe Gase paid the $10M for a higher draft pick.
