sweet. nice to get ANYTHING out of him. prob a 6th or 7th.
Can't seem to find it on the link posted.

Better to get anything for him than nothing at all.
I don't see it on their site.
excellent if true. I like Smiley, I thought he played well for us, and had the right attitude to help the team. However, he was too much of an injury concern.
Hope we got a pick.
Wow you are fast!!! Please a 5th rounder!!!
i hope we got a player anyways your avatar is halarious
I bet it is a 5th and another offensive line man
Probably a 7th rounder. It will be a bonus if anything better then that
Great news, I'm very happy that we were able to get SOMETHING back for him.
Could you imagine if we get Reggie Nelson in return, who was on the block. I doubt it, Fins value their picks.
can he even pass the physical? he's healthy, right?
He will pass. Dolphins wouldn't make the deal if he couldn't.
I don't think Reggie Nelson ever would have even entered the discussion. This was always going to be for a low round pick, most likely conditional.
Let's hope the Jags medical staff is able to diagnose as well our med staff.
Just saw this. Was about to post the story, but you beat me to it.....again. Keep up the good work.....
Don't try and beat FinAtic to the Dolphin News punch. He's been like DNN (Dolphin News Network) lately!
Passing a physical is no guarantee. I think it is a legitimate concern that this trade may not finalize. I think it is probably 60/40 in favor of the trading going through. As far as compensation it is probably nothing more than a 7th round pick in 2011. At this point though, I am glad just to get anything back.
Sort of a bitter sweet moment as I liked Justin Smiley but realize his injury concerns outweigh his talent. If he actually stays healthy for once, the Jags will get a steal.
I still believe the shoulder stuff was overblown. There was a rumor I believe that was out there that said his shoulder was shot and he can't play. I don't tend to think the Dolphins would go through with all of this if they concluded the same thing. They'd just waive him and say sorry we love ya but your career is over.
I know i'll be disappointed with what we get. Probably just a 5th or 6th but he IS a starting caliber O-lineman
yeah i was really hoping for a player more like wishing but ill take anything we can get for him
I don't know about that. I'm no expert but If I recall I read that Colts had offered a 5th for Smiley around draft time and the Dolphins turned it down hoping to get a 4th. I think it's prob going to be for a 5th or maybe a 6th now but could be a 4th or 5th depending on playing time. Just a thought.
Clearing some cap for Atogwe? I like this move a lot, saves some money and it doesnt hurt us much getting rid of the old injury proned (though good) guard, while we have Icognito, Gardner, Thomas, and Jon Jerry. I dont see a reason to not go after OJ and if we do, watch out, we are a top team and extremely young.
lol u sure about that? they have made quite a few mistakes recently
This is IMO clearing some salary room for Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby. Smiley has known for a while now that he's played his last game as a Dolphin. They told him months ago to stay away from all the voluntary camps and activities, even the lifting and whatnot at the facility. The likelihood of this having anything to do with Atogwe is small, I think it's much greater that this was a move they already penciled in before they signed Karlos Dansby and Brandon Marshall, and the only reason they weren't forced to do it sooner is there is no hard salary cap this year. But in order to fit Marshall and Dansby within their own internally set guidelines for salary, I believe this had to get done.
For what is the question... anything is nice really..
But don't even mention Reggie Nelson like FinAtic did, the forum may explode
Wow, nice move by the front office. I figured anybody who wanted him would just wait til he was cut. Guess the Jags wanted him enough to give away "something" to ensure he was theirs. Either way, good for us!!!
Jason Ferguson was not talking out of his *** when he said, this organization cleans house when they do not get the results they want. Fins cut or traded, Porter, Ayodele, Wilson, Nate Jones, Taylor, Ginn and Smiley. The new additions are Dansby, Marshall, Incognito & possibly Procter.
Fins are not done getting rid of players either, I predict Turner, Torbor, Moses, Walden and Dotson could all be gone. I also do not see the Dolphins keeping four QBs. Talk about a roster overhaul.
I agree. Jake Grove could be next. You're production most match you're pay. I don't think we make a play for Atogwe. I think the roster is set and that people like Reggie Torbor, Jake Grove, and other players with big contracts and limited roles better be on watch.
Hey nice to get something for a guy that was going to be cut.
I haven't kept up with Reggie Nelson but after trying to look up some info it sounds like he really blows
too bad reggie nelson stinks...glad we didn't get him to be honest...
nate jones more than outperformed his contract last year...
Good Luck to Smiley in J-ville. I'm glad the team gets something for him rather than nothing.
Smiley has been traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a ``late-round pick,'' sources said Monday. The deal was completed before the start of the weekend.

Its a real pity that Smiley could not stay healthy. He was great when he was on the field and always came across like a nice bloke with a great attitude. I for one hope he does well in Jacksonville.
I agree. He was a free agent and Miami just decided not to match the contract Denver offered, which wasn't half bad.
i would have kept him...he handled himself pretty well last year 1 on 1 without much help...
i was bummed when we let him go and i don't think the money was anything that we couldn't have matched
True, but with Will Allen being healthy, Jones would've gone back to dime back, and while here he's proven to be fairly useful in coverage (despite coming here with a lot of people saying if he say significant time, we'd be in trouble). With Denver he gets a bigger role than he'd have here.
no doubt...but i also have my reservations about banking on will allen...but that seems to be the thinking in letting nate jones go
It's never a good sign when they do not mention what we are getting in return, but like most of you, I think anything is better than nothing.
Now that we signed Procter, does that mean Jake Grove is next to get traded?
I'm glad Miami got something in return.
I have reservations about counting on Will Allen too but until/unless you make that hard choice to cut out the unknowns (read: Smiley), you're stuck with him and in the mean time you've only got so many roster spots and they wanted another development prospect (hence Nolan Carroll). Strikes me as not a situation that was particularly enticing for Nate or for the Dolphins. My only issue is if you need a FS, you might think about moving Nate over there. But then I guess they also wanted to get kind of younger and more developmental there as well with Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones.
yeah i understand why...still bummed me out though and i think the broncos are getting an underrated nickle cb...
as for reshad jones that scares the crap out of me at free safety...god does it ever on tape
