can someone answer these questions

im sorry but i dont know where to search ive tried a couple of things but i think this is good and relavant to know

How much salary total is miami paying the o-line here compared to the top o-lines in the NFL?

the year that Daunte did magnificent with Nfl records and all his great years with the Vikings where and what is the difference in skill was their o-line to ours now..did they have all stars?

and what will our slary cap look like next year?
 
It would take some effort to compare the salaries of the entire Oline with the rest of the league unless you had all the data in front of you. But I would guess that Miami is in the bottom 5 when it comes to total being paid. The Phins only have three players with decent contracts, Carey on his rookie deal, Shelton, and James. While they were probably both overpaid, neither Shelton nor James are getting paid anywhere near what a top Olineman makes in the NFL.

As for Daunte's Oline in Minni....it was among the best in the league, highlighted by pro bowlers Birk and McKinney. They also had arguably the best blocking TE in the league in Wiggins.
 
in pure salary terms here you go: (06/07)
Shelton 2,000,000/2,000,000
James 2,500,000/ 3,250,000
Hadnot 425,000/ RFA
Mcintosh 585,000/ UFA
Carey 490,000/655,000

Sheltons contract doesn't get big till next year(doubtful he'll ever see it) James has the biggest contract but it's in the latter stages where it's cheaper to cut him. Rex will be an RFA next year. D-mac is on a 1 year vet min. tender. Bennie anderson who he replaced had a very modest contract. Carey's salaries are low but he got a large bonus when he was drafted.

Overall our line is underpaid when it is compared to some other top tier lines. But that is mainly because we do not have a Great LT who commands a lot of cash.

We are on our 6th RG...Currently we have 10 linemen on the active roster but we are paying for 13 of them because three are on I.R. Mckinney had some money on his deal that is dragging the cap down(basically a 3 year deal with a bonus every year)


Money is not always an indicator of a talented line. It takes time and energy to groom and develop talent(see: NE Patriots) not always money...

Their line was attrocious last year when Birk was put on IR...And none of their guys were good run blockers till they ponied up the green to get hutchinson.... They didn't even start to gel until daunte was hurt...

I think he was asking what their line was like when Daunte was having success, ie in 2003/2004 seasons. As in the seasons where they ran at will (without Hutchinson) with mediocre RBs.

The vikings never had a dependable run game. In all the linehan years they had a running back by commitee aproach where they stuck with the hot hand till they stumbled and then replaced them. Also linehan's PHILOSOPHY had a great effect on it. Opponets knew the vikes were going long so they Always kept 2 safties back and rarely put 8 in the box. Also having randy limited what defenses could do. Zone defense was out of the question cause randy would run right through it. Most teams did Man under 2 Zone coverage or more likely keep 1 safety back while the other double covered moss.

The lack of premier talent at RB and the attention given to randy along with the airing it out philosophy allowed the vikes to have a good running game without a lot of talent simply because most defenses "forgot" about their nameless RB's.

The system went to hell because of two things. 1. With linehan gone they went to a short passing attack. This backfired because it shifted attention from the long ball so defenses started to key off and blitz much more without fear. 2. Randy- No more double coverage meant defenses could now run zone defenses and stick 8 men in the box.


The point is Randy and linehan effectivly hid most of the vikings weaknesses. When they left it all went to hell. It didn't help that their defense was pretty bad for the first part of the season because of so many new faces. They didn't even start to really gel until mid season.
