I'll be shocked if he gets a job right away honestly. He might be signed by a team that has an injured kicker but I don't think he will be signed as an opening day starting kicker.
He definitely needs competition this upcoming camp. I started to sour on Carpenter after he missed four field goals against the Bills in 2010. He really angers me at times and it is definitely time to start looking for options to compete with him.
He missed key FGs in 2012 that would've given us a 9-7 record instead of 7-9
Not a **** was given.
His performance wasn't what it was since going into a pay day (big surprise). Not against letting him go or sparking a fire under him in camp.
He could probably beat out Akers in SF right now....
not at all against inviting kaeding back or I have a mock drafting dustin hopkins... either of which, I don't think can be any worse than dan carpenter.
Won't be missed. just replace him with another undrafted FA.
I like carp
Sign Kaeding for less. Carpenter wasn't a cheap kicker.
I went from really liking Carpenter, to not really trusting him anymore from 40+ or sometimes even shorter!
Not a single **** was given that day
seriously I didn't even want to watch the kick if it was over 25 yards.
Cut mullet boy.
no. Not really. Decent kickers are fairly easy to find now. Unless there's someone with a super booming, super accurate leg, then no. Save the $$$ & use it on a play making FA.
His confidence is blown. Cut him now to prevent future losses...
2013 is a big year for us and our kicker not being 100% upstairs is a huge problem.
I'm indifferent. I think at one point during the season the announcers said he was like 10-25 on FGs over 45 yards going back in time of course. I think since then he improved. I know I don't want Nate "never miss until it really counts" Kaeding. I'm not a fan of kickers or punters - if you are relying on them to win games, they will only break your heart - unless their name is Viniteiri. My point is, let's get good enough we don't have to worry about whether this guy is 18-20 or 12-20 next year!
Frankly, I would just cut his *** outright. Forget the training camp competition. He isn't worth the money, especially as shaky as he has been lately. They can get any number of guys to replace him easily.
Time to move on from Carp. He was money early on in his career, but is now to inconsistent.
Yeah. No, I think given the facts, Carp is out. We need to get a newbie kicker who gets it done and works for under a mill so we can spend it elsewhere
From HTC 1 X
we still have nate kaeding on the team dont we if thats the case good riddance let carpenter go somewhere else kaeding is the way better kicker and a former pro bowler
Kaeding is not the answer either. Draft or sign another kicker.
I don't want to cut Carpenter if the answer is Kaeding, but i would be fine if we drafted a kicker or picked up an UDFA. Kaeting is not the answer, IMO. Rather have Carpenter.
Kaedig is a choker...handed the jest a pass to the 09 conference title game by missing 3 FGs including 2 from closer than 40..I don't want him.
Do we care if a kicker gets kicked to the curb?
Do you care who the janitor of your company is?
I'd try to restructure and keep him. For a long time.
Carpenter has three of the traits most valuable in a kicker -- initial height, effortless distance and great mechanics.
The latter is particularly undervalued. I've mentioned previously that my friends and I play a little game, betting tourists on which side of dead center the kick will end up. It's not difficult at all once you know what to look for. Feels like stealing. Carpenter is one of the few guys, the very few number of guys, who we never use during those bets. His setup mechanics are ideal. If he misses it's due to a push or pull but he never lines up improperly.
He got a bit quick during his slump then relaxed later in the season.
I think he is very replaceable. I dont mind bringing in competition. If he out performs the other guy keep him but he does make too much money
Carpenter would have been gone week 5

If hes pretty damn good at shining the floors I do
He doesn't need competition, he needs to be replaced. He sucked last year. If we had a good kicker, like the one we thought we got when we made him one of the highest paid kickers in the league, we beat Arizona and sweep the jets. $2 mil for what we got out of him last year is outrageous.
Both kickers need to be cut. Bring in a hungry undrafted FA kicker. Or they can sign Mike Nugent for the vet's minimum or draft Florida St's Dustin Hopkins on the last day of the draft. Just as long as Carpenter and Kaeding are both gone come opening day.
Kaeding will be lucky to play 2 more games in his career.
people were saying that when we cut mare and he is still playing
You guys dislike him now, but I doubt you'll replace him with anything better.
Anyone can shine floors and empty trash.
It's not rocket appliances.
I don't even need better. I'll take the same performance for $2M less.
Carpenter for $3 M? Absurd. Get rid of him.
Amazing how a few kicks can be the difference between a good and a bad kicker, such a polarising position. Think it is also a position where your past doesn't define your future, look at Mason Crosby, it is a position where you can be good one year and crap the next. As a result hard to know what is the best thing to do at the kicker position.
I want to draft Dustin Hopkins in the 7th round if he is still on the board. I think we have two 7th round picks. If not him, I like a kicker for the Ragin Cajuns of UL-Lafayette named Brett Baer. He's clutch.
12/14/12 - 2012 ALL-SUN BELT CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES & MEDIA): Brett Baer Louisiana-Lafayette, Sr., K), has been selected First Team All-Sun Belt Conference (Coaches & Media selection) for the 2012 college football season. Baer, a senior from Brandon, Miss., led the Sun Belt with 100 points this year. He was 17-for-20 in field goal attempts and 49-for-51 on extra points to post only the fourth 100-point season in school history. Baer is one of the most accurate field goal kickers in NCAA history, converting 42 of his 47 career attempts (.894) to rank third in UL history with 243 career points. - ULL football
Get rid of him, missed too many kicks this year.
No reason at all to keep him. He's garbage
Carpenter isn't that bad guys, bring in competition but come on'
