Quarterback Alex Smith has a new home, as sources tell The Star that the Chiefs have reached agreement to trade their veteran starter of the last five seasons to Washington.

There is no word on the compensation yet, and any trade involving Smith can’t be completed until the first day of the new league year,

which begins at 3 p.m. on March 14. But the sources say the deal is in place and will proceed.

He'll be good with Jay Gruden.

Not sure where Cousins will wind up, but he should pick his destination carefully. He's been lucky to have Shanahan and Gruden as his coaches during the entire time he's been in the NFL.

Washington is a bunch of morons. They throw all that guaranteed money at cousins over 2 years without extending him and then blow draft picks to get an older QB to a huge contract. They could have just extended Cousins 2 years ago and have a much more reasonable contract....

Redskins continue to **** the bed. Alex Smith gets 71 million guaranteed. What a horrific trade for them.

I actually think the scenario makes sense if you consider that Washington almost certainly thinks Kirk Cousins is an OK but not particularly good quarterback. They franchised Cousins because that was the best option available. When a much better (from their point of view) option became available, they did that, instead.

Fuller is good. To get rid of a contract for a pick and fuller that's big for KC

Yep . . . They offered Cousins an extremely good contract extension and he said no. Franchise tag played its role and now they get arguably a better QB, cheaper price AND the third they lost will likely get recouped from compensatory.

And honestly, we don't know the "fully guaranteed" amounts, this could be a two year deal and Washington still takes a QB to develop at some point.

I like the move for both teams.

Smith is better than Cousins. If you can improve your QB position for cheap you do it.
