With Rich Rodriguez being hired as Arizona's new Head Coach, the silly season for college coaching has begun. Here are the rumors...

The big one of course is that Urban Meyer will be named Ohio State's new HC after the Michigan game. There is still some dispute, but who really knows. If Meyer doesn't sign/backs out, the school is reportedly looking at John Gruden

Rumors are floating around that Arizona State is considering parting ways with HC Dennis Erikson. The rumor is if they do look for a replacement, Houston HC Kevin Sumlin is at the top of the list. IF they can't get him, they will look at Eastern Michigan HC Ron English who recruits the area well and is a former ASU assistant.

Ole Miss has reportedly narrowed its coaching search to 2 guys; Auburn Offensive Coordinator Guz Malzahn and Southern Miss Head Coach Larry Fedora.

Malzahn is also a candidate for the North Carolina job. The Tar Heels supposedly want to throw a lot of money at Boise Head Coach Chris Peterson, but realize that probably won't happen. So they are looking mostly at Malzahn and South FLorida Head Coach Skip Holtz.

The Penn State job is an interesting one as there IS interest in the job. Al Golden was the golden boy, but he has stated his desire to stay in Miami. Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano has been linked as JoePa's heir just as long as Golden has so he is worth mentioning. Virginia Head Coach Mike London has had his name mentioned, but it is unknown if he would be interested. A name being thrown around a bit? Florida International Head Coach Mario Cristobal. Really no decisions or interviews will be given until atleast the Athletic Director situation is figured out. Supposedly, they are leaning on going away from people with connections to the college. Cristobal's name is being brought up because of his good character, youth, and experience rebuilding a program like FIU. Western Kentucky Head Coach Willie Taggart has also been mentioned

A LOT of jobs open today. Turner Gill was fired by Kansas, Ron Zook fired by Illinois, Rob Ianello and Tracy Porter (two guys known for recruiting but were never coordinators) were fired by Akron and Memphis respectively. Arizona State looks like it WILL in fact fire Erickson, sounds like Rick Neuhisel is gonna be let go by UCLA. UAB fired Neil Callaway

Paul Wulf will probably be fired by Washington State, Mike Leach is the favorite to replace him.

A lot of no-brainers on that list.

Erickson's just going to find a bar someplace, I think this was going to be his last season anyway. ASU's going to be doing a complete housecleaning of their AD I'd imagine.

only reason he was hired was because ASU didn't really have the money to get a hot candidate, and due to ASU's expectations (Koetter had given the Sun Devils some very good college players, the team just underachieved) they didn't want an unproven guy.

I mean, you look at Erickson's first year where they won 10 games, they were filled with very good college players including Rudy Carpenter and Ryan Torrain.

Larry (not Tracy like I posted) Porter and Ianello were just cases of good recruiters being hired for that reason. Porter was always an RB coach who was hired because he was an alum.

But yeah a lot of guys who needed should be fired

Rick Neuhisel has been fired by UCLA but will be allowed to coach the PAC 12 Championship game. Just a poor hire by UCLA. Karl Dorrell was fired because his teams were mediocre and didn't compete with USC. Dorrell's teams however, went to a bowl game every year. Neuhisel has been a better recruiter than Dorrell, but the results just weren't there. This year is only the 2nd year they are bowl eligible, and if it weren't for USC being banned from post season play this year, they wouldn't be in the Championship game (and really Utah had a better record, just not in conference)

Dan Mullen to PSU is gaining a lot of steam. Mullen is from PA originally and has stated that PSU is his dream job in past interviews. He has no connection to PSU outside of growing up in the state and being a fan. Those close to Mullen have also said that potential sanctions do not bother him.

NCAA Coaching Carousel - Who's Moving?

The names are starting to whirl, with coaches that were on the hot seat no longer employed. Rick Neuheisel is out at UCLA. Dennis Erickson is no longer leading the Arizona State Sun Devils. Illinois let go of Ron Zook. Paul Wulff is out of the head coaching job at Washington State and Houston Nutt is no longer with the Ole Miss Rebels. With many coaching vacancies, there are some hot commodities that should be receiving phone calls soon from a majority of these universities.

I wonder if Paul Allen threw some money their way.

Great for their program. The Pac-12 is going to have some SIICK offenses next year.

Leach wasn't going to get a bigger job. Washington and Miami both were really turned off by Leach in the interview process. Maryland fired Ralph Fridgeon in order to hire Leach, but after interviewing him, they said no way in hell.

Wazzou needed to take a risk, and it's a tough place to recruit. Leach will be able to rebuild the Cougars like he did Texas Tech. And the athletic department is giving him nearly $2 million to hire his assistant coaches.

Texas A&M is also seriously considering firing Mike Sherman. SHerman has done a decent job bringing in talent switching the Aggies from a spread and 4-3 offense to a pro style and a 3-4. Problem is the team has underachieved the last few years and the big money boosters aren't happy, especially with the school moving to the SEC.

Former Hurricane WR coach Curtis Johnson will likely be named Tulane Head Coach

Looks like Carl Pelini will be the new FAU coach.

Arizona State has ended it's courtship of Kevin Sumlin, leading to speculation that Sumlin is going to be named A&M Head Coach soon. Sumlin is a former OC at A&M.

Larry Fedora is probably the hottest name on the market. Once seen as a lock to be named Ole Miss Head Coach, he's on the short list for Arizona State, and Kansas as well.

Along with Fedora, the Sun Devils are said to be looking at Mike Sherman, Ron English, Sonny Dykes, and Kliff Kingsbury

Interesting rumor going around is that Mike Munchak (Tennessee Titan's HC) has contacted his alma mater of Penn State to take over as HC.

Another rumor going around is that Mack Brown will retire after Texas's game.
