Confidants of Ross" informed that Stephen Ross "was ready to move on" from DT Ndamukong Suh.

    Miami
The Adam Gase/Mike Tannenbaum coupling enters what is often the decisive third year together, and they do so at a crossroads. Things fell apart in 2017 after a surprise playoff run in 2016, and Tannenbaum's impulse has always been to try to throw more money at a problem. But will that best serve the Dolphins and their coach here? Jarvis Landry wants mega-money as a slot receiver, and I wouldn't franchise him, but might Miami? Gase loves Ryan Tannehill, but the Dolphins, barely under the cap, would create over $15 million in cap space by moving off of him. Would Tannenbaum be intrigued by a splashy quarterback out there? Can you count on Tannehill, given his recurring major injuries? Confidants of owner Stephen Ross told me during the season that the owner was ready to move on from defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, set to count a staggering $26 million against the cap. Does he have a change of heart now? Are the Dolphins buyers, or more like sellers? Teams have been interested in acquiring veteran pass rusher Cam Wake for years. I'd expect other teams to feel out the Dolphins at the combine. Maybe Miami rides things out, staying largely status quo, but if they don't they could be at the nexus of several big transactions.

Recurring major injuries? And he actually gets paid for this? Embarrassing. And on top of it, when was the last time he was right about anything? I wouldn't ask him the time of day even if he was wearing a watch.

That was a dumb article. First, moving on from Landry doesn't create ANY cap room. He's not under contract. Giving him a new contract would create a mess. You can't cut Suh because of the cap hit. The one thing Ross should do is get rid of t-dumb

I doubt Ross even comments on these things. Your telling me Ross a non football guy is telling people he's ready to move on from his best football player? It's ridiculous.

I believe we save a ton of money by letting Tannehill go but it'd cost way more to replace him unless you're drafting a QB at 11 and make him the starter

Identifying a bad manager is much easier than hiring a good one.

While I agree with your assessment, I question if Ross can hire the right guy. And replacing TB inevitably means scrapping the whole team. You either do it slowly as the new guy waits for the current staff to fail and justify replacement or a completely cleansing all at once.

And more to the point on Suh, I honestly think his contract makes him unmovable. Something about Suh makes me wonder if a championship caliber defense could ever be built around him. He is such a salary drain at a less critical position that he drains your ability to add important pieces at more important positions (LB, DE, CB).

Furthermore, Suh dictates the scheme of your D. Jettison him and you rebuild the entire D. He's less of a franchise player and more of a player who holds your salary cap hostage.

Pay $25M to Tom Brady and where would you expect this team to be?

Pay $25M to Suh and everyone focuses on why he is so valuable to this team.

Ross should want to be rid of Suh. Any smart businessman would see the return on investment simply isn't there.

Suh would leave us at a $22 mill dead cap....2019 he is gone.

Tannehill would save us 15 mill in 2018.Yep $4 mill dead

From a wise football perspective Ross could have said this but my guess is not.Tannenbaum needs to go like yesteryear.

Crazy thing is what ROI did they expect when they signed him? 25 sacks per year, 6 TDs? How would we ever get a return on a DT? Suh is great. But what a dumb amount of money to spend on the position.

    Suh's cap numbers in 2018 and 2019 if he's on the team: 26.1 million & 28.1 million
Suh's cap numbers in 2018 and 2019 if he's not on the team and designated as post June 1st cut: 9.1 million and 13.1 million.

In essence if you cut him now and designate him a June 1st cut you save 17 this year and 15 next year but you still have 9 million and 13 million go off your cap for nothing.

this team is at a crossroads. There are too many bad contracts with the same players as last year. same players will have same results. Miami should indeed be sellers and position themselves for being more competitive in 2019.

So are you saying IF we cut him then we save 17 mil and lose 9 mil (net 8 mil) and next year net 2 mil?...

So we lose a player (another hole) and have 8 mil to replace him?....Would you do that? If so ...

What would you do with an extra 8 mil and the hole it created?

Just curious.....I don't think I would do that...looks like we just need to continue building through the draft with an eye on the future...we made our bed and have to lie in it....IMO

The way I’m understanding it (forgive me if I’m wrong, contracts aren’t my strong suit) we would cut $26 million, have $9 million in dead money, leaving $17 million in net gain

If the team is a mediocre mess this year, I don't think you blame Gase. To me, it seems like Ross has gradually been pivoting towards Gase more and more, and more and more away from T-Bag, so we've got that going for us. In fact, I think he overruled T-Bag originally and made Gase "his guy", so he's got that going for him.

Should the team continue down this stretch it's on, I think T-Bag gets the axe, and I think Ross gives Gase either more personnel power, or brings in a guy that wants to work with Gase, like Brian Xanders, for example. Something to shake up the proverbial bottle of salad dressing a bit.

Gase is the guy least on the "hot seat", I see T-Bag getting dumped before I see Gase.

I don't know if we are at a "crossroads" but I do agree we will be shedding these terrible contracts after 2018. That is why i'd like to draft a DE, LB, and OL early in this draft to have in place to take over for next yrs roster dumps like Alonso, Branch, etc

I think the entire organization is on notice for 2018. Miss the playoffs again and I could see Ross pulling the plug. I was just looking over some of our biggest contracts on our 2019 cap:

2019 projects to be a good year to blow it up. So, I'm curious just how much spending Ross will approve for this year.

If Jones and Stills continue to play well, I have no issue paying them those 2019 numbers. Tannehill needs to elevate to late 2016 status or I pull the plug on him and everyone else on that list.
