There seem to be a number of threads that start with "why do we need him", or "don't we have enough ....?". If it is not abundantly clear by now I think it will be clear that Saban is going to create as much competition as possible and loyalities will go only so far. He is going to create competition no matter who thinks things are settled (player or fan).
Saban does not strike me as a guy that is going to be ever content without some strong competition. More power to him.

I think this is where Wanny dropped the ball big time.

Yeah, that's absolutely correct.

Saban isn't afraid to take chances with players.

We have an huge amount of depth at WR,CB, AND QB.

I completely agree. It's very nice to see an open competition at almost every position. Constantly evaluating new talent, and not guaranteeing starting positions until week 1. I don't remember bringing in half of the people we seem to now. It's one of my favorite things about our team.
