okay heres the scenario, i play with the dolphins, my current contract is
2million for 5 years.
2 questions....is that 2million per year, or total?
and last question, if i get cut after my first year, will they still have to pay me off?
last question. if i retire after my first year, do i have to pay them back?
thank you

No, It means in total, :D
for example If Chambers signs for a 6 year 34 million dollar contract, we are not paying him 34 million a year...

If you get cut, the only thing they owe you is the signing bonus.

2 million for 5 years would like something like this

YR1= 200,000

YR2=300,000

YR3= 400,000

YR4= 500,000

YR5=600,000

First of all, a 5 year 2mil contract is pretty much league minimum if you are a rookie in the 1st year, but thats another question.

If you get cut the team does not have to pay off your contract. You do get to keep any signing bonus you were already given though. If you retire, the team does not have to continue to pay your salary and you may even be asked to return a portion of your signing bonus (ala Barry Sanders)
