I was stunned that he didn't follow Philbin out the door. He only hung around because Gase was blocked from signing the coach he wanted

    Tough to evaluate this firing.

We've seen multiple DL develop tremendously while he's been here. Phillips, Godchaux, Taylor, and I feel like Harris also showed fundamental improvement throughout the season.

Weren’t the Dolphins interested in another DL coach at the time Gase was hired? But retained Williams because Gase couldn’t get who he targeted? I think it was someone from the Bears staff? Anyway, it wasn’t working with Williams, I’m glad to see Gase getting rid of some of these holdovers.

I would welcome a Bronco, Bear or Bengal for this one. Those teams have good d lines.

Team had 30, 33, and 31 sacks his 3 years here. Defensive line arguably declined each year, or at the very least didn't improve. Not a loss IMO.

Those two picks worked out, but I have been thoroughly underwhelmed with our DL since he arrived from Oakland

I thought Foerster and Williams were the clear weaknesses on this staff, both are now gone.

A while ago there was speculation Bowles may look for a new DC, I would have welcomed Kacy Rodgers back, but it doesnt look like that will happen

I wish. Would mean Fangio and his team may have had a change of heart. Sadly no, his contract is freshly signed.

I doubt it. This one is more likely to be a Matt Burke recommendation, to get Gase sign-off. Therefore we are looking at an ex-Bengal.

Yeah, ex-Bengal makes sense. Miami likes hiring from loser franchises.

Aside from our obvious poor lb play i swear i would curse the lack of pressure on the third and longs where our blitz or shear pressure would fail miserably and the subsequent first down would occur. No team gets far with a failed rush and qb pressure. It was like the rushers hit a wall.

Not sure Dolphins are in a position to call the Bengals losers. At least they get to the playoffs nearly every year

So he was fired or not retained? If his contract was up he was not fired.

But let's still complain about where his replacement may come from. A good coach is a good coach.

I don't think the Bengal's defense has ever been bad since they got Lewis and many of his assistants are now successful HCs or coordinators.

Now if they just hadn't hung their hopes on Dalton all these years they would have done better.

Godchaux was balling from the day he got here, Williams really did nothing to help him. Phillips took longer to develop that he should have. I can honestly say that if Kacy Rodgers were still our D-line coach Phillips would be better than he is now.

I'm also amazingly shocked how clueless our D-line is when it comes to defending the screen plays. Every time it happens it looks as though they've never seen that play run before.

Interesting that you mention that. Our scheme relies heavily on DEs to make plays on the flats since the OLBs take on man on TEs and our MLB is too far away from the action.

They've already got his replacement signed and sealed..now to be delivered. Even the morons in the FO arent stupid enough to sanction the firing of an Okay coach leaving them with a bare cupboard.

I know the rookies had some success this year, but im honestly quite surprised by some of the thoughts in this thread.

I have felt quite disappointed by the standard of our DL (supposedly one of our most talented units) play for the last several years - both against the run and passrushing. I thought Kacy Rodgers was badly missed.

Perhaps I am in the minority on this one! Im wrong a lot!

The secondary needs help up front. The more pressure we get up front the better the back end will be along with more turn overs from the pressure the opposing QB is under.

Not a fan of Williams to begin with. Like others have mentioned we have not had a good pass rush since he has been here, and the entire DL has had issues with penalties (namely offsides) with him as coach.

Name to watch is Kris Kocurek from Detroit. Was The DL coach there since 2009 and is well respected and liked by Suh but is also known for developing players

I've had it. I liked it but it gets quiet sometimes. I'm too broke to chip in again but would love to. I usually come here on the offseason the most. I probably will make a larger donation than last time next year and make it a yearly thing.

I'm Mexican, so... I take jobs companies 'near-shore' and get paid a third someone in the states would.

I've done English-Spanish interpreting from home the most and I'm looking to get back at it... At $6 an hour, pffff!

My guess is that you guys try to hire Kris Kocurek of the Lions. He's still under contract with DET so he has to wait to see if their new coach keeps him or not but both of their top contenders for HC run the 3-4 so they might be inclined to hire a DL coach with experience in that system. Kocurek has been the Lions' DL coach for a while and he was there in DET when Matt Burke was with the Lions. The Eagles tried to hire him as their DL coach when they hired Pederson but DET blocked him from leaving. IIRC, I think Miami might also have tried to hire him when Gase was hired.

I don't see Ziggy playing anywhere in a 3-4. If this results in adding Ziggy, even at Wake's expense, it would be even better.

Firing Williams is a good move. Now if we'd only fire Burke our defense would be better off. I still question Gase's other decisions.

The OC? He has to be better than Chistensen. The RBs coach? If we land him he'd probably be our best position coach. The o line guys we brought to replace Forester fixed the oline in a blink and brought Davis, Larsen, Young and the big Browns tackle along nicely.

Idk if i'd replace Burke just yet but our LB coach we brought after promoting him should get the axe. If anything he ruined Kiko.
