One would think that Jeffy knows the lack of support towards him by our fan base. He should know that our fan base (most) desperately want him to bring in a jennings, wallace, bowe type receiver. The way i see it I think Jeff will bring in a big WR to appease our fans and perhaps win some over....Now this line of thinking isnt practical meaning a gm is not gunna do something just because the fans want it; however, we really do need a WR! It would be like killing 2 birds with one stone for him.

It has nothing to do with the fan base......the team needs WR help period.

I don't think fan base pressure will push Ireland toward a free agent WR. However, our need at receiver is great. I don't know if this is a problem that is easily addressed in the draft. The learning curve for most receivers in the NFL is 3 years. If Ireland was going to pair a rookie WR with our rookie QB and let them grow together, last year would have been ideal. I think this year, you bring in a veteran that can make a difference in Philibin's offense, and you draft 2 receivers (one fairly high, one project) to develop under the tutelage of Bess, Hartline and the free agent acquisition.

This team could have a fan base comprised fully of deaf mutes and Ireland should still realize we have a problem at WR.

It depends on how he feels about Hartline. The fan base opinion is that Hartline and a Rookie receiver won't be enough. Since we have the financial ability to go and improve that, we should definitely go get one of those free agents.

The opinions differ in that some want Jennings+Hartline and others want Jennings+Rookie.

Ireland could have three possible scenarios

    Jennings+Rookie
    Jennings+Hartline
    Hartline+Rookie

The fans just hope its not the last option.

When I say Jennings I mean any of the 3 in Jennings/wallace/bowe

or, the most likely option of all:

    Hartline+Jennings+Rookie

I actually kind of agree with the OP. We do need to make some kind of splash in free agency in order to sell some tickets and actually garner attention around the league. But it doesn't necessarily have to be at WR. It could be at DB or TE as well.

I have to hope he's going to bring in WR help, regardless
of what fans think or want. It's painfully clear we need weapons
    on the edges.

Though, you can keep Dwayne Bowe

I think it's a no brainer that a Vet receiver will be added...and it should be.

We also need to draft one, but we can't rely on a rookie to carry this corp next year and we cannot enter next season without drastically improving the receiving corp for Tannehill....it would be stupid.

If you want to base Ireland on everything he's done, what about his history tells you isn't going to address such a glaring need? Every single draft he "addresses" a need.

unless you mean of course you don't trust him to make the right choice, which is a different thing entirely.
