A six-pack of Dolphins notes:

• The betting public’s percentage of the Dolphins apparently wasn’t impacted dramatically by Miami’s 10-6 playoff season. That’s surprising, not only because most key players return from that team, but also because the roster has been bolstered by Julius Thomas (pictured above), Lawrence Timmons and others.

Three weeks ago, the MGM Grand and 11 other Nevada casinos set the Dolphins’ over/under for wins at eight.

But according to the MGM’s sports book chief, so many people bet the Dolphins would win fewer than eight that Miami’s over/under was reduced to 7 ½.

And even now, more money is coming in on the under.

A bunch of teams that didn’t make the playoffs last season have higher over/unders, including Tennessee at 9 ½, Arizona and Denver and the Colts at 8 1 /2 and Detroit at eight.

• Brandon Doughty, trying to convince the Dolphins to keep him as a No. 3 quarterback, said coaches have "fidgeted with my release to quicken it up" and with good results so far.

"I was drafted for a reason," he said. "It’s because people believe I’m an NFL quarterback."

Good news for Dolphins fans living outside South Florida: Not only will every Dolphins preseason game will be televised on NFL Network, but the most important one (the third at Philadelphia) will be televised live nationally on NFL Net at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. The others will be on tape delay on NFL Net.

All four games will be televised live in South Florida on CBS-4.

Oh, given that context, we're looking at 12 wins.

I wonder if Barry gets some kind of kick down from Orlando Franklin's agent for that name drop. Seemed awkward and pure speculation. Maybe I'm just bored of the offseason and need something to complain about

No worries. We haven't really earned anything yet. As the team has expressed numerous times, we are starting over and what happened last year has no bearing on this year. However, last year's success has given the team confidence in themselves, the coaches and the franchise. A strong start will go a long way to foster that success this year. We have a few key players that need to take that next step (Parker, Phillips, Harris) and few positions that need remain healthy (Offensive line: Pouncey; Linbackers: Timmons, Kiko) and few bounces our way and we will be good. On paper we are better than 8-8 and being under rated is fine with me.

Last year we were gonna lose our ass, you see.

Tannehill didn't have it, Gase was untested as a head coach, our defense was a major issue (that one was true enough), and Ajayi wasn't going to shatter D lines.

And we made the playoffs with more guys out than I can remember in the past.

If the Vegas boys were consistently accurate, it wouldn't really be gambling, would it?

So let em say what they will. If they said that we were the only team that could probably knock New England aside, well, that would be nice to hear I guess. But nothing matters until we've actually done it. Tough schedule? It better be. A gravy schedule yielding an 11-5 record, only to get clobbered the first playoff game, gets you no further than a tough schedule when you finish 9-7 and go home. Hell, you can't even have bragging rights.

I've already said my piece about the Vegas line elsewhere, so I won't bore you with it again. But I'm surprised -though not necessarily displeased- about the Landry news. If he doesn't sign an extension before the start of the season, his chances of remaining a Dolphin next year will decline dramatically.

How often do you get a QB that scored 8 TDs in one game at the college level? Doughty is a winner.

Can't say I'm shocked about the betting bit. If Miami had managed to put in back to back playoff appearances over the past decade, people might believe they would do better after a winning season. That and the fact they are in the same division as the Patriots hurts them as well. All the tram can do is go on and prove everyone wrong. Until then, I don't blame Vegas for their odds on the team.

I remember that argument about an SEC QB who is now playing minor league baseball.

Though I'll say I'd be thrilled if he could unseat Moore.
